The cleanliness of the hotel consistently receives high marks, enhancing the luxurious and relaxing atmosphere that many find magical. Professional service, including a helpful shuttle and friendly staff, is frequently praised, adding to the hotel's value which is seen as justified by its historical charm and excellent service. Palazzo Gattini is a noble historic residence in the heart of the upper, but ancient, part of Matera. Nevertheless, it is easily accessible thanks to the efficient shuttle service provided by the hotel. Even the fact of offering a parking space in the parking lot of an associated structure in the area outside the ZTL, I do not think can be underestimated in a city like Matera. The rooms are finely decorated and everything conveys a feeling of relaxation. The real difference is the staff, all extremely kind, helpful, friendly but always professional.
The breakfast is plentiful and in addition to the buffet you can order hot dishes cooked freshly. The Spa as others have already written is small but, in addition to being very beautiful because it evokes the caves of Matera, it is managed in such a way that you can enjoy it exclusively.

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights in Matera and the Palazzo Gattini. It's definitely the most luxurious hotel in Matera, very elegant, but not at all pretentious or stuffy. The staff is very friendly, greeting us every time we left or entered, and the breakfast staff is the same, attentive without intruding.
Our room was fabulous - a suite with loads of space, views over the Murgia, perfectly quiet at night, and in perfect condition, including great air-conditioning which was helpful in the September heat. Breakfast is served in the basement, a very nice space but not much light or view and if the hotel were full, it might get a little crowded. The buffet is very complete, eggs can be cooked to order for you, and of course, coffee is made to order.
The location is ideal for both visiting the sassi and being in the "old town", everything is walkable with endless restaurants, shops and cafes close at hand.
We can't imagine staying anywhere else - it was great to return to this hotel after a busy day sightseeing.

We arrived in Matera without a hotel reservation...not the best idea as you can't drive into the historic town and parking is limited unless you have a hotel reservation. The hotels have parking and shuttles to bring you up into the historic town. After checking out a few hotels and not finding a room for the night we went into Palazzo Gattini. They had a lovely room available, breakfast included and free parking. We checked in for 2 nights and extended the stay to 3 nights. Staff was friendly, helpful and seemed to know all the guests by name. The room was spacious with an amazing ceiling, comfortable bed and the best bathroom! There is a spa in the basement with a floating pool but we didn't get around to trying that out. We had dinner the last night at the hotel restaurant, it was delicious with impecabble service and the price was same as what were paying at restuarants in town that were more casual. Highly recommend Palazzo Gattini- great location and outstanding service and room.

This is a very beautiful small hotel right next to the Duomo. The location is perfect for exploring amazing Matera. The reception staff is exceptional. The room was great with lights along the very tall ceiling. The breakfast room very nice with a large selection of items.
We parked our car at their other property outside the old town and they picked us up with the hotel shuttle. It was easy and convenient.
The hotel staff made many suggestions for sightseeing and dinner and arranged for a James Bond tour for us.

The only downside was that the room was cold and the heating system was not able to warm it up. They told us the the ceiling being so hight the heat get to the ceiling and the room stays cold. The first night I froze all night but the second night I asked for a duvet and a space heater and it solved the problem.

We didn't use the spa or the on-siite restaurant because we were too tired but it looked great.

We would definitely return to this hotel if back in Matera.

I had the pleasure of spending a pleasant stay at Palazzo Gattini and I was almost satisfied with the experience. The property is located in a quiet and central location overlooking the Cathedral of Matera.
The room I stayed in was just perfect. A warm and welcoming environment, furnished with quality materials: the stone floors, the exposed brick ceilings and the elegance of the marble coverings of the bathrooms. The view from the window was breathtaking, giving me a panoramic view of the city that I enjoyed every morning.
Unfortunately I have to give an insufficient opinion to the breakfast restaurant: little assortment on the menu, definitely not up to the context.

My husband and I, along with our little dog had a beautiful stay at this hotel. They made pick up excessively easy, the driver was helpful and friendly and the location of the hotel is perfect for exploring all areas of the city. The staff helped up get a few last minute reservations for dinners. The hotel dining was amazing! And their breakfast had so much selection and the staff was amazing! We would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again when we return again!

Wow, what a hotel, in a wonderful location. My husband and I spent 3 nights, enjoying the amenities of the hotel such as the gigantic two person soaking tub in the room and the spa downstairs. Our view out of room 304 was stupendous. The hotel had all the bells and whistles one would expect. Breakfast consisted of various cheeses, breads, sliced meats, fruit, yogurt and toppings, assorted muffins and cereals, fresh squeezed orange juice, tea, and of course, coffee made to order. But it was in the breakfast room that I discovered I don’t like eating in a cave! While there was plenty of electric lighting, the only natural light came from a few small windows high up on the wall. So, for our last breakfast there we asked to take it on the garden terrace, outside. Clara, the amazing breakfast attendant brought it to us with a smile on her face. I’m sorry I waited until our last day to do this!

Our couples massage had us giggling when we were given “underwear” to wear that definitely wasn’t meant to fit American sized bodies. It didn’t hide much, but we were okay with that. The massage was lovely, my only complaint is that my therapist’s nails were a touch too long. The facility was clean, the atmosphere relaxing. The therapists weren’t familiar with the CentoxCento 100 euro discount I found mentioned on Trip Advisor and the hotel’s blog on its website. Fortunately the man at the reception desk waded through the website again and found it. So yay, a 40 euro couple’s massage!

Two recommendations for the hotel: Better quality towels and bathrobes. They’re a little rough and scratchy. Not luxurious at all, though generous in size and quantity.
Parts of the hotel hallways seemed a bit dim, lighting wise, especially as one makes their way to the breakfast area, down the stairs. Maybe a more lights, or different bulbs?

Every staff member we encountered was wonderfully friendly. I would definitely recommend Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel to those looking for an high quality, top notch hotel.

How can we distort such a beautiful palace?
Good points
The staff is very attentive and kind
A big thank you to Theresa at reception for her good advice
A big thank you to the adorable Pina who manages the breakfast room alone and for her attention to the guests every morning
Same for the boys who drive the shuttle between the hotel and the parking lot
Palace very well located on the Place du DĂ´me
Outdoor terrace with superb views of the sassis
Very beautiful and well maintained palace interior materials stone marble travertine, superb woodwork
Negative points
Travel light with a backpack
Because :
You will have nothing to store your belongings
Rooms 209 for us
are completely unsuitable
An architect's delirium
A basin in a corner of the room as large as a baptistery
A tiny sink in the bathroom
No storage in the bedroom, a rod with a few hangers
We had to ask. OUR two large suitcases at the foot of the bed, each on one side
What's the point of going to a five-star hotel for camping?
Breakfast taken in a cellar in the basement
While the superb terrace is used for the restaurant and the bar and could very well be used for breakfast
The rooms should be redesigned and everything would be up to par with a five-star palace hotel
In the conditions in which we traveled we will not return to Palazzo Gattini and will not recommend it unless everything is redone

Located near the Matera Cathedral this small boutique hotel is quite appealing.
There are great views from the terrace.
Excellent reasonably priced restaurant.
Pleasant staff.
Quiet location and rooms.
Our suite had high decorated ceilings and a whimsical fountain /bath (very impractical)
On the other hand the actual bathroom was small and the shower tended to overflow.
Altogether a memorable experience

Yes, you can reach the hotel by car and leave your keys to the receptionist. He will park for you. It's 20 euros a day during the high season. I highly recomend the hotel's Spa.
