The courtyard is charming and we were greeted warmly. During check in we were given a quick orientation of the old city with a map. Our room was comfortable and, as were were there during some clear November days, we did not experience dampness. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

WOW, Matera is a very unique place! To appreciate it, you need to walk lots of stairs up and down but its history and beauty are worth it! Most of the city is pedestrian with many important historical places to visit, like antic churches and museums. We stayed in Le Dodici Lune, a unique "cave" hotel, which has been completely renovated with all the modern facilities. Cinzia and Mariateresa are fantastic hostesses and proud owners. They welcomed us in Italian and English and provided a map, highlighting the all the important sites. Full breakfast is included, using local suppliers, even the yogurt is home-made! Cars are not allowed to enter the town but porters are available to help with luggage and they recommend a secure parking close by. Matera is lovely to walk and at night, the light is magical!

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Matera and were very impressed with everything during our stay. We stayed in room 7 and had so much space we could have had an additional 2 people stay with us! Breakfast was lovely in the morning and the location is central to exploring the Sassi. Highly recommend!

When we first arrived to Le Dodici Lune we could not believe out eyes. The hotel is built into old caves in Stassi Caveoso and is a truly remarkable place. Our “room” was absolutely massive with a large bathroom too. The cave was amazing upon entry. The breakfast buffet was also very nice. However, the problem came at night when we got into bed and realized all the bedding was damp from the humid atmosphere in the cave. this was with 2 dehumidifiers and 3 air cons running. We got through the first night but when it came to the second night we were very happy we were only having a short stay because the second night the bed felt even more damp and both nights the pillows and bedding smelled like cheese. It made the stay very uncomfortable overall. It should also be noted that if you have any mobility issues it would be impossible to stay here as there are many stairs and a long walk required to get there. I realized I booked a room that was in a cave so perhaps it’s my fault for not anticipating the dampness but it came as a shock to me the room was so uncomfortable. We would not stay here again because of this and would not recommend this place.

Charming and welcoming residence. We were a family of 13 people and we had 4 spacious and accommodating rooms with tea and coffee areas available and free. We had a great time. The place is very central and allows you to relive the historical climate of Matera

Excellent venue starting from the location, size of the room, friendliness and attention of the staff and up to the fast wifi and breakfast. Definitely a place I would recommend. We booked a regular double room, but were given a room with a cave that is very chilly and comfortable to sleep in without the AC in summer when it was 40+ C outside during the day. The breakfast starts at 8-30 which which was a little too late for us as we had a guided tour booked at 9, but the staff was very nice to provide flexibility and opened the breakfast earlier on our request.

We used AC only for limited time to dehumidify the room a little and it was a little bit noisy. This was not an issue for us as we did not use it during the nights - there was no need for it. The re are very few electric plugs, but not a big deal either. The room had some strong air refresher that was a little too strong for me, but I guess because it is a cave-sort of room it has a lot of humidity and air refresher probably just helped to have a different scent of the room, next time would ask probably not to use it when the room is being cleaned.

What an amazing experience to spend 2 nights in the Sassi of Matera in this charming property tastefully restored with finesse.
We had an excellent stay for 2 nights with a family of 5 persons and we appreciated the quality of the accommodation and the high-quality service, including a delicious breakfast. Ideally situated in the old part of Matera. We had a family room for 5 persons, built in the Sassi. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back again given the very good experience we had. We truly recommend.

A great location in the heart of the Sassi overlooking the main square and the sasso cavasso . Maria Teresa was an exceptional welcoming host who spoke English as well as Italian. And of course her adorable dog Charlie!!!
The breakfast was deliscious!!! We stayed in room 25 which had a spa jacuzzi- highly recommend this room. Especially after walking up and down steps this is a welcoming relaxation:)
We drove and the closest and most affordable place to park is Rocco Scotellaro. About a ten minute walk in. We were there in the first week of October and it was 28C the evenings were cool. Make sure to have a cocktail in the evening at the ZIPA Cafe ,a drink house in Matera that features stone lounges set amongst the rooftops and terraces in the ‘Sassi’.

Incredible experience, we went with friends, we had a double room on the ground floor, beautiful dug into the tuff furnished with style and all the comforts, shower separated from the bathroom dug into the tuff. Extraordinary welcome from the staff, they did everything to make us feel comfortable. Very good breakfast, in the former cellar, beautiful, where the owner, an exquisite and passionate person, told us the history of the structure, showing us photos of what it was like when they took it under concession and how, with sacrifices and passion, have transformed it into the jewel it is now. What can we say about Matera? It is not possible in words, a dream, a fairy tale.
