Perfect location. The parking garage is close by and it is downtown. The room clean, and a good size. It's clean, etc....

BUT

The restroom had no windows nor ventilation. We staied in rom 104 and DO NOT IN ROOMS 104, 105, 102 as they are facing the main drag.

We could not sleep all night long as people strolled untill 4:30am and at 6:30-7:00 the cleaning truck passes collecting glasses etc.

I know it is not the hotel's fault but it has to be taken into consideration considering the price you pay and the quality you expect.

I attended a Receptionist internship at this historic hotel in the heart of the historic center of the city of Matera. In addition to the professionalism of the owners and my tutor Paolo (receptionist of the structure) I could learn about the particular atmosphere rich in tradition and modernity that this structure transmits to the tourist or simple visitor, ensuring the possibility of being able to make a unique experience in the city of Matera being able to visit all its historic center including the Sassi not as guests but as citizens of the city and tenants of this historic building simply by leaving the entrance and walking through the central streets. I recommend tourists and visitors of all kinds to be able to do this experience in the ancient and fascinating city of Matera. You are already welcome in the HOTEL ITALY

Very comfortable hotel for visiting the city, beautiful room with a view of the Sasso Caveoso, perfect bathroom. The disappointment was the breakfast not up to par with the rest. Low quality products, terrible service. Having excellent local raw materials, it is not possible to offer packaged cheeses and sandwich bread. With a small additional expense you can improve and live up to the structure.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay in the Albergo Italia, Matera. The hotel offered spacious, clean and comfortable room, in an almost perfect location for Matera town center and Sassi de Matera. The owner and staff of the hotel where very friendly and courteous. Would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Sassi, the view is beautiful.

The staff at this hotel are very accommodating. You can walk to all sites easily from the Duomo (currently under scaffolding) to the Sassi. The rooms are all varied from simple twins to large suites with antique furniture, and some with views. Down the street are excellent restaurants and view points of this stunning UNESCO cave city.

Everything what you want from a small hotel. The hotel is perfectly positioned in Matera for walking the Sasso. Town comes to life in the evening and all aspects of the hotel were very good. Friendly staff and a good breakfast, including offering good advice on places to visit - would definitely recommend this hotel for your visit to Matera.

Sassi itself is a magical experience. This hotel makes it perfect, the view was overlooking the Sassi and it's close to everywhere. There is a waffle and gelato place close to this hotel and there's a lot of bars around. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was simple and okay. The room was clean.

When you go to a 3 start hotel you expect: to get what you pay for:
1- you are asked to pay extra to get a view on Matera but,
- you don't get any view
- you have to pay for it
- and the owner is telling you that you should not mater as you will not stay all night looking through the window; this is just unbelievable.

2- Rooms are small and it is really a city where you walked a lot, thus you are satisfied to get back to your room for some rest and then get back out ; in this hotel you prefer to stay out.

3- Breakfast is poor: from the orange juice directly poured from cans that are not hidden in December where there are kilos of oranges sold around.
There is no bread proposed, just local croissant and fruit tarts that have really no taste.

No smile, no effort, this hotel sounds like a cash machine.
If you have choice, go somewhere else.

And meanwhile the owner needs to learn that tourists are not just there to pay they like to be considered as guest with respect and trust.
Tourists are normal people they want to get what they pay for.

We chose this hotel because it was close to the parking building. Great choice! It was easy to get in and out of the city by car. Yet, it is in the center of everything you want to see and do in Matera. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast is free. I recommend highly!

There is a parking garage within walking distance of hotel. Parking on the street is very difficult to find.
