Detailed Reviews
We had some difficulty in finding the hotel, but once we arrived we were given a warm welcome to this splendid hotel and took advantage of the valet parking in the courtyard. This was our first stay of a trip to Matera and Puglia and we were quite mindful to being there in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic. We had no reason to worry, the hotel’s COVID security was excellent and the sensible precautions didn’t affect our stay. We had a room on the second floor with a wonderful view overlooking the Sassi. The room was large and comfortable with a well equipped bathroom.
The usual buffet breakfast wasn’t served but there was a good choice from a pre-selected menu, served in the elegant dining room. Access to the breakfast room is through the hotel’s beautifully decorated public rooms. There is also a bar with a fabulous view on the roof, the ideal place for sunset.
The hotel is the perfect location to explore this fascinating old town with all the main sites and many good restaurants within easy walking distance. It seemed to be very well managed and the staff were most helpful with plenty of good advice about where to eat and what to see. I would strongly recommend Palazzo Viceconte.

Located in the centre of the historic quarter, tucked away behind some large gates and courtyard, you'll find this beautifully renovated palazzo with great atmosphere.
My room (305), with modern bathroom, was spacious and comfortable,with fabulous view of the Sassi. All the staff were most friendly and helpful. A good buffet breakfast, served in one of the many imposing reception rooms, was included;
There was also a great rooftop bar serving excellent aperitivos

My wife and I just stayed recently in Matera at Palazzo Viceconte for the last few days. Beautiful old restored Palazzo, best location I can imagine, and service was excellent. Everyone was very nice and helpful. And the rooftop bar and views are everything the pictures and prior reviews say. Unbeatable. A few tips (a) they are super nice if you are driving to the hotel, where you call them when you are "close" and they literally talk you in on your phone to the gate and park your car (for sure let them them do this as it would be intimidating otherwise driving through narrow streets), (b) go to the rooftop bar every night, as the views at sunset are wonderful and worth a glass of wine with the very nice staff at the rooftop bar every night (c) spring for a room with the views, as ours was incredibly beautiful. So glad we stayed 3 nights and basically 2.5 days in Matera. It was worth every second, and having a great location so close to everything, including shops, restaurants, and all the sights, like this hotel, is worth every penny.

We considered two other hotels and chose this one because the rooms were not caves and its views were spectacular. It lived up to its billing. Large, clean rooms with views of one of the sassis and the Murgia Park, which consists of wild land with unadorned caves. It's the view of the renovated sassis or caves that is most evocative, and unlike the cave hotels we looked at, this one has a real view of them, due to its commanding view on top of the city, just behind the duomo. Matera is a must see place, and a knowledgeable tour guide informs you why this city is more than just the cave story. The hotel recommended Antonio who spoke fluent English and very informative, having grown up in Matera. It's an old palace with lots of art (including nudes) on the walls but certainly not over the top. As much as we enjoyed the stay, it looks like the owner has decided not to invest much money to make it a truly elegant place, which is just fine with me. A minimalist decorating style is fine but the little pictures in the rooms could really use upgrading, like moving some of the photos and art from the massive public spaces into the rooms, Breakfast was minimalist too: cold eggs, not much selection of other things. Receptionists made good restaurant suggestions. Roof bar and terrace have wonderful views but didn't see to be in operation for some reason. All in all, I'd stay there again without hesitation, for the clean, spacious, quiet rooms with a view, and the location. With a little investment in the interior decoration it could truly be a great hotel among the finest in the world

A palazzo on the end of a tiny street looks modest outside, but inside you can find endless number of palace room filled with antique and arts. Our room was decent, with big bathroom and great privacy. But even the location, view and public spaces are astonishing, the most warming thin in this hotel was the kind service. We were escorted through the old city by car and helped on every single detail so nicely that we certainly want to return!

What a splendid Renaissance palazzo, renovated to the highest standards! We enjoyed a junior suite with a private staircase to the rooftop. Dusk from the roof terrace was magnificent with the lights of Matera coming on. Staff was very friendly and so helpful. Ahmed helped me find our car when we were misled on directions with our navigation systemTatiana made a dinner reservation for us at Annina’s, which turned out to be our best meal in Puglia. The gentleman with West Virginia connections guided us out of the courtyard parking, which though pricey, was invaluable. Breakfast in the elegant dining room had great service and a wide choice of options including fresh fruit. The walk through the first floor rooms to arrive at the breakfast will forever be memorable—stunning art, architecture and furniture. We are only sorry that our stay wasn’t longer.

The hotel occupies an ancient palace in the middle of Matera.
Views from the room (a large flat, more than a room) are amazing both during the day and night.
It's a shame we were visiting Matera for a few hours and for business, but this is a place where you can live both the ancient city and treat yourself as a king.
Services were extremely limited by the current restrictions, but the staff was trying its best.
It could be much much better, but it's still a 5/5.

A terrific location and views of the Sassi. Caring and conscientious staff. Highly recommended. Magnificent public rooms. terrace has best view over the city.. I highly recommend this hotel. Also, for people who have difficulty walking, it is easily accessible by car (although I did not drive, not sure about parking.)

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel ( being upgraded to junior suite with view on sassi. People are really kind, room is very confortable , breakfast is good ( I would have waited a little bit more if choice, like different kinds of eggs for example , but still very good )
Parking , with fee if 30 euros per day , is a real advantage as you are at the highest point of Matera. View from the terrasse is exceptional but my only regret is that this terrasse is not used the way it should bring the best experience . Just a few uncomfortable chairs and 2 tables ( you can ask a glass of wine if a beer at the reception )

Hotel of great historical value, located a few steps from the Duomo, with the convenience of an internal paid parking (a unique opportunity to reach the Duomo by car). The staff was courteous and professional, promptly resolving an issue with the air conditioning. We stayed in a suite on the first floor, strategically located opposite the breakfast room. The images speak for themselves.
Privileged location, quality breakfast and a terrace with stunning views. Recommended without reservation.

Hello
Yes, there is parking available and costs Euro 18 a night. We were driving as well. I would call to the hotel and let them know to reserve it since their spaces are limited. They will also provide you with directions in how to get there(it is not easy by car) since your gps will send you somewhere else. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Have a Great Trip! F
Hotel has adequate head room, request at reception, they can accommodate, some of the rooms are huge. parking is available on the square 2 mintues walk from hotel, literalyy around the corner from hotel entrance.
Dear Moirac35,
the cost of a parking spot is 20 euro per night. The nearest swimming pool (indoor) is about 1 km from the hotel, 20 min walking. You can find 2 other swimming pools (indoor) at around 4-5 km.
"Parking is limited but you will be walking around most of the time. It is a little distance to the main area where there are shops."Read full review
