I spent two days with my husband in this b & b immersed in the magic of the stones of Matera. The area is limited traffic and if you arrive by car you can book with the room a private parking for a fee. Then with a shuttle we were escorted in front of the b&b. Great reception at the reception. The structure is full of stairs like all the stone zones. So Light Baggage Recommendation. We had the highest room (no. 6) which enjoyed a beautiful view. An adequate space, excellent cleaning and new and functional bathroom. Breakfast is served at the reception level. Very varied of salty and sweet with fresh products and excellent quality. On the morning of departure we found the shuttle again on time for the return to the parking lot. Everything is perfect. We had a great time and will definitely return. Oh, congratulations.

Great hotel and the staff were lovely. It was a great location where we could access without too many steps (many hotels require a mount climb to access). The room was fresh and clean the bathroom great and all in that Sassi (cave like) style which made it really special. Our room was a deluxe with ensuite and city view. Breakfast was good and we had parking booked with assistance from the hotel, 20 Euro per night parking + 10 Euro pick up and drop off at the hotel made life easy as you do not want to try and drive around this place.
Unfortunately we had a film crew cordon off large sections of the city on the 2 days we were there, which forced us to walk kilometers around to see all the places we wanted.
Definitely would recommend this hotel.

We stayed two nights in Matera at Fra I Sassi. It was a fantastic hotel in a perfect location in the Sassi. The view from our room’s own terrace was absolutely breathtaking. The room was in a restored cave but modern, beautiful and spotless. The property was peaceful and secure. All the staff were lovely, and breakfast was super. We used the parking and transport service offered by the hotel and it was worth the extra cost. Matera is magical and so is this hotel!

I stayed in the deluxe suite.
The bluetooth in the tub didn't work and we waited 40 minutes for the staff even though we had been told that he would come up in 2 minutes. The problem was not solved and we did without it but considering the price of the stay (chosen precisely because of the presence of the dangerous bathtub) I believe that the functioning of the services should be carefully checked before leaving the room to new guests.
A towel was also missing, which was provided to us immediately afterwards.
In the room there were cobwebs and a paper clip probably from previous guests.
Very good breakfast, beautiful view from the suite.
Too bad for the inconveniences that shouldn't be there for the amount paid.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay in Matera in a deluxe suite with a living area with sofa, bedroom, and a large bathroom with a bathtub in a cave. The location is outstanding as you can easily walk anywhere in Matera from Fra I Sassi Residence. We especially enjoyed the large buffet breakfast that included many types of sweet pastries, savory items, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, and even hard boiled and coddled eggs. This was the best breakfast we had on our 23 day trip to Italy. We were so happy that we chose Fra I Sassi as our home base to explore the fascinating city of Matera.

I promised myself not to write any reviews because I am always the first to justify unpleasant experiences but, after reading all the positive reviews on this property, I would like to warn you that this is not always the case, as happened to me and a couple of friends. who were traveling with us. We found our room, n8, with a dirty bedspread, changed after notifying the reception, the bathroom, inside the rock, with a musty smell, broken light boxes, even the bell in front of the door unusable, the television that lost contact if it moved slightly, the puff was stained, the rubber on the shower door was half detached and many other unpleasant inefficiencies that I won't list. Our friends' room, number 14, with the plastic shower curtain with peeling walls, with basic furnishings, like ours. Breakfast with some typical products but nothing special. Before leaving the facility I expressed my thoughts to the reception manager telling her that I would not write on this page but yesterday I sent an email to the hotel without any response from the management. This made me understand that there was no interest in the "passing" customer, on the contrary.
The photographs published on the site do not correspond exactly to what we have personally verified. It is right to reward those who work well, with attention towards those who travel, but we should also pay attention to those who instead take advantage of a beautiful location like Matera, to exploit tourists.
The price is not in line with the hotel's offer

We only stayed one night, but it was perfect for us! Our room (quadruple) was huge, with a second room with bunkbeds for the kids. If you are claustrophobic, you will be ok as there are small windows in both the kids' room and the bathroom, plus the glass front door (we were a bit worried about that). Everything was very clean and the sheets high quality. Our room had a small kitchen and table so we decided to make a light dinner there as we were feeling a bit heavy after a week of eating out - that was great! The outdoor space is amazing with beautiful views! My husband and I enjoyed a few drinks at sunset.
Please note that no cars are allowed, so you will need to get there with your luggage on foot (hard for roller bags too!). We easily found a parking spot in the street, but the booking with made at the paid parking (nothing to do with this hotel, just FYI) could not be refunded (they ignored my calls and emails). Breakfast was excellent - plentiful and delicious! HIGHLY recommend

The location and view are amazing. Matera is a very challenging place to park, but we got great advanced information and a very convenient shuttle. The cave room (#4) is perfection. It is large and comfortable with a front patio area that contains a small table and chairs to admire the incredible view.

What can be wrong with staying in an ancient sassi in amazing Matera? Well, with Fra i Sassi, it is absolutely perfect. A room that walked out onto the terrace where aperitivo is served in the afternoon, an easy walk to the road that circles down below and along the rim. Friendly service, an perfect and accommodating host who helped us with every detail. Don’t miss this lovely accommodation, particularly if you are traveling with a ‘furry friend’!

A wonderful structure run by exceptional people (management, reception, breakfast service, cleaning) no exceptions. An attention to detail that makes the difference if you want to fully immerse yourself in this atmosphere that takes you to live in the history of this wonderful city.
We stayed in two different rooms... but honestly I could not choose the best... they are all different and equally UNIQUE! When we return to Matera, we will definitely return to you! Thank you all so much! See you soon, Marco & Annalisa

Hi, You drive to the hotel with your luggage, then someone takes your car away to be parked, and returns it when you checkout. It is a fantastic service that just costs a few € a day. From memory less than €10 but the hotel can confirm. It Is in a fantastic location with lovely outside areas to sit and admire the view. Anne
