Quarry Resort – the historical residence of Palazzo Zicari – is located in the heart of the Sassi di Matera. It is definitively one of the most representative buildings of the Civita, that overlooks the Sasso Caveoso. The original structure was made up only of caves and it dates back several BC centuries. The section built in 1500 A.D. close to the Duomo goes back to the historical moment in which were built the palaces of the noble families, the ruling class, and the clergy. Tuff is the typical local stone, that characterizes the building making it ethereal timeless. Similarly timeless are the underground and the chapel and 12 particulary rooms: 4 double superiors 3 suite queen 4 junior suites pool 1 suite king pool Garden in restaurant in the cave and lounge bar’s panoramic terrace you can see the Archaeological Park of the Murgia Materana, the Church of Santa Maria di Idris, and Piazza San Pietro Caveoso.

Hotel's Favourite
A beautiful room with views on two sides. Staff were helpful and friendly especially Antonio at the front desk. Our tour guide, booked privately, never arrived but Antonio saved the day! He gave us a map and a full run down of what we should see. And a bit of history too.

The Quarry is a beautifully renovated boutique hotel, beautifully positioned in the center of Matera and with beautiful views available over the Sassi and Murgia Materena Park area. Suite 410 where we were had an amazing view and good natural light with floor to ceiling windows (it also had a round bed which takes a little getting used to). We visited several other rooms/suites in the hotel which had fairly small windows and limited light, so I would suggest choosing carefully if this is important to you.
While a very top end boutique hotel, we would not classify this as 5 star L nor as a "resort". A small thing, perhaps, but there is no hair conditioner offered (that said they went out to buy some for us the next day), we had to request bathrobes (which arrived quickly), water was not provided on a daily basis, the heating was not turned on until we asked a second time, the heating in the bathroom never ended up working.
The hotel has 13 rooms, a private breakfast area and a lovely dining terrace which is also open to outside visitors (definitely worth a visit as the restaurant service is excellent, the cuisine very enjoyable and the view unbeatable). The breakfast was less well done - we were the only clients and they still managed to burn our 2 slices of toast.
In summary, it was a very nice place with very nice and helpful service, but by calling itself a 5 star L resort, the Quarry sets expectations above what they provide.

Fabulous, fabulous hotel right near the centre of Matera. Beautifully presented room and public spaces.
Our room was huge, comfortable and had everything you could possibly want in it. The biggest selling point, however, was the staff! No matter who he met/spoke to (reception, bar, chef, handymen), they were all ultra friendly, professional and helpful. A credit to the hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, we were just disappointed that we had to cut it a day short due to flight cancellation.

A very good location if you have no mobility issues! We had a room overlooking the Matera "canyon". The room was however just under the terrace of the restaurant so rather loud although I had specifically asked for a quiet room. Breakfast was good but service rather disorganised. To go to breakfast there is no lift so it could be an issue for somebody with mobility issues. Same to get into the hotel: the hotel is not accessible by car. However the hotel will send you somebody to help you with luggage and also had given us good advise as where and how to access the parking lot. We did not like the restaurant: the music was way too loud, the food mediocre and the prices high. On the whole, I would rate this hotel as a mixed experience and too expensive for what it offers.

I’ve just arrived in Matera and I am so happy to be staying here! The staff is amazing: Enza at the front desk shared her homemade cake, and Marco in the restaurant is one of the best servers ever. As a local, he had recommendations for the area to explore, as well as suggesting a delicious local white wine, dinner and brought a delicious almond and chocolate dessert! He is truly joyful and showed me pictures of a film that is shooting locally. I would come back in a heartbeat!

I didn't stay overnight in the structure but only had dinner. However, the lady who manages it was kind enough to show me the rooms, which are few but fascinating and equipped with every comfort, considering that they are of various shapes and consistencies because they were created in the spaces of an ancient noble palace.
I could define the reception of guests as undoubtedly elegant. The concierge manager was equally elegant and the waiters' service was very professional. Good food, a little refined, which attempts to combine the Matera tradition with haute cuisine.
In short, this suggestive place in the heart of the Sassi of Matera is a pleasant surprise.

This hotel is extraordinary. The service had a very personal touch by the owner and her fabulous staff with great attention to detail. We had a wonderful room, with plenty of space. We also had an excellent dinner and operatives in their restaurant. They booked our Matera tour and outside dinner reservations which were first class. They have been the friendliest staff in out two weeks in Puglia,

It stands out for the quality of the entire service team. Attentive and efficient They form a team: Mr Vito at the restaurant, Mr Daniele at breakfast, Mr Ângelo at reception.
Terrace with panoramic views where the restaurant is located. Excellent menu that meets the most demanding tastes.
Wi-Fi works well anywhere in the resort.
Parking arrangement is OK.
The air conditioning in the large room is very good and adapted to external temperature variations.
Coming to Matera in 2024 and staying at the Quarry is an excellent travel option in southern Italy, including Puglia and Basilicata.

Good evening everyone
I stayed at this resort at Easter 2024 with my husband.
Due to unfortunate events our holiday took a wrong turn from the first day, but despite this as soon as we arrived at the hotel we received kindness and availability that can be found in few places, due to my husband's health the owner placed us in a super comfortable room and even above the one booked by us without asking or saying anything!!
I would like to thank all the staff but above all I would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Enza who was able to make the holiday unforgettable above all for the care and commitment she puts into each of her guests.
I highly recommend this property, not only for its beauty but above all for how everyone makes you feel at home!!

We arrived mid-morning. We left the car in a convenient car park. The shuttle took us to Piazza del Duomo, where a hotel representative was waiting for us, who took us to the reception. Convenient and efficient. Top room, with swimming pool in the middle of the rock. The solution for lunch was good, with a special mention for the very kind waiter who entertained us, dispensing culinary and non-culinary advice. Perfect solution for getting around the city while always maintaining a comfortable (luxury) meeting point and very organised. To repeat. Highly recommended
