I spent 4 nights in this property. The location is excellent, already inside the historic centre, but with a panoramic view of the stones - which can be enjoyed from the small terrace which each room is equipped with - which will take your breath away.
The rooms are treated in every detail: from cleanliness to comfort: coffee machine, pods, kettle, tea and herbal teas, biscuits and snacks for breakfast, all free, plus a paid minibar; and also hairdryer, courtesy set, even slippers that sometimes aren't even found in certain 4-star hotels.
And then the hospitality of Valentina, who conveys her love for her city by presenting it with emphasis and helping guests who wish to book guided tours, restaurants, etc. Even after my stay had already ended, I wrote to her if she could tell me where to buy the Matera bread that I fell in love with and she responded promptly with the kindness that distinguishes her and in great detail.
If I were to return to the area, I would definitely return here and will certainly recommend it to friends passing through.

My husband and I spent a night in Matera in this beautiful property! We recommend the super to those who want to enjoy a fantastic view of the stones (the best in our opinion) and at the same time the tranquility and peace that is around! The strong point of this structure is that despite being a quiet and private place, it is just a few minutes walk from the centre! Very comfortable for us. Next to our room with a view of the stones, there is a small terrace with tables where you can have breakfast while enjoying the view and the chirping of the birds. Top cleaning! The room is equipped with all comforts including smart TV and machine to prepare coffee in the room and everything you need for breakfast. Among the bathroom accessories, in addition to disposable toothbrushes, there are even make-up removing wipes!
Valentina, the owner is very kind and helpful! Super recommended!

Stayed 2 nights in Matera at Torretta ai Sassi. Both Matera and the Tower were wonderful. Valentina, our host, could not have been more helpful in giving advice, recommendations (all good), maps, etc. and our room was so thoughtfully equipped we lacked for absolutely nothing. The views from the terrace were absolutely stunning, literally breathtaking. Parking is very easy, recommend the undercover car park on Via CasalNuovo, easy to find and 2 mins walk away from Tower. Matera is an amazing place and Valentia and the Tower made it more so. We will definitely be back and would stay nowhere else. Grazie Valentina!!

Stunning structure, dream location, breathtaking view from the rooms...rooms in the caves, cool, well-kept in every way...the small garden in front of each room is delightful, where you can enjoy a view over the whole of Matera in total relaxation . Fantastic Valentina, she guided us from arrival to departure, advising us on destinations for our travels.
Absolutely coming back!!!!!

Finally getting around to writing this review. We stayed last fall Oct/Nov. had no idea what to expect but I couldn’t have imagined a view more beautiful. Actually we stayed there twice. A few nights before going to the east coast and a night on the way back. One room was a cave and the other more conventional but both were comfortable. Valentina, our host, was charming and helpful. Breakfast was packaged pastries and there was a Nespresso coffeemaker in the room. Outside of the rooms were large, pretty private terraces or sitting areas. The hotel itself is one of the highest points in the area so surroundings are breathtaking. Parking is not the easiest but once you have a space, no need to drive in the town.

An unforgettable structure to spend a peaceful stay in the heart of the Sassi of Matera. At Torretta ai Sassi everything is perfect: welcoming and spotlessly clean rooms, equipped with every comfort and immersed in the tranquility of a magical place.
The view of the night panorama from the room's terrace is breathtaking.
In every corner of the structure, both in the rooms and in the enchanting external terraces, you can perceive an immense attention to detail and attention to the well-being of the guests which make the Torretta ai Sassi the best place to stay to fully enjoy the wonders of the territory.

Firstly, Valentina is a wonderful, kind and attentive host. She connected with me ahead of my trip and provided useful advice for my arrival to Italy which I appreciated. Valentina also helped to arrange a taxi for me for pickup from Bari and the driver, David, was excellent.

The Guest House is lovely. I arrived at night to the stunning view of Matera lit up and the next morning I could appreciate even more the lovely terrace and private space for my room.

The Sassi room itself was lovely and had everything I needed including a comfortable bed and a good shower. I made use of the Tower Fan and that sufficed.

The location was perfect because it was very quiet yet was a short 5-10 min walk into the heart of Matera.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Torretta ai Sassi again and I cannot stress enough how wonderful Valentina is as a host. She is dedicated to her guests not only enjoying their stay in the property but also this unique and stunning city that she is rightly proud to call home.

Wonderful location, 5 minutes walk from the center, overlooking the "stones". In practice it is like experiencing the best of the place, but without the typical noise of the city center. The room "Niche" we chose was cozy and comfortable: pleasant to return after every walk and visit in the 4 days we spent in Matera. The formula of the breakfast box is very apt and appreciated. The "host", Valentina, prepared and very helpful, was a constant reference point for us. His advice and support allowed us to explore the wonders of Matera and to taste the products of the area. We recommend it with conviction. We would choose it again in case of a future visit to these parts.

Splendid experience in Matera, four wonderful days spent under the supervision of Valentina, generous with advice and explanations. A room dug into the rocks from which you could enjoy a breathtaking view of the ancient city, then at night with the lights on you could enjoy a wonderful view, Valentina was an excellent, kind and helpful host. highly recommended in every respect. Only 1 night in a B&B but in a real stone complete with a very spacious terrace, well equipped and with a panoramic view of Sasso Caveoso. A spectacular view and a structure with rooms in a tower above those in the Sassi. Comfortable and well furnished bathroom, large and very comfortable room. Breakfast with bagged products, tea, coffee, juice and water available free of charge. Other various drinks in the mini bar for a fee. Out of the center but close enough with a very short walk. Parking nearby and also very convenient. Host Valentina guided us upon arrival and gave us excellent suggestions. Recommended for those who want a real experience of Matera.

If I go Matera by train, how can I get to the hotel ?
Answer from mariosca
Matera, Italy2 contributions1 helpful vote
the train coming from Bari stops in "matera centrale station", you should stop there and then it's up to you: - you can walk for 20-25 minutes to reach our b&b in Vico 1° Casalnuovo n.31(it depends of your luggage); - you can catch the bus n.13 from piazza matteotti (near train station, every 30minutes) and stop in via lucana near "palazzo della Provincia", then walk for 5 minutes to torretta; -you can catch a taxi to come to "Torretta ai Sassi", vico 1° Casalnuovo 31, Matera. when you make a reservation also we send you a map to find us easily. Kindly, Torretta ai Sassi.
