The room is a real cave. It is very comfortable, equipped with modern furniture. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The bathroom was large and modern. Very comfortable beds. Our room faced a terrace with a stunning view. The bistro on the terrace has, probably, the best place to have a drink with a great view of Matera.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel's location in the middle of the Sassi is very nice and you have a great view from the terrace. We also loved the overnight stay in the very comfortable cave room. The evening cocktails and breakfast were also delicious. We didn't think dinner in the restaurant was that great. There is only a bistro menu and the sandwiches we had were rather mediocre.
On the other hand, parking was well organized. You are not allowed to drive your own car into the Sassi. So you are guided to a remote parking garage outside the gates of Matera and from there you are taken directly to the hotel.

Cave suite. The room left my wife and daughter speechless. The mix of modern immersed in the excavated walls is truly spectacular. The panoramic view is fantastic. Excellent beds, with very soft cotton sheets, superior quality. For obvious technical reasons, the tech bathroom does not guarantee complete privacy. But there were no alternatives! The attention during the reservation phase was also noteworthy, given the numerous very detailed emails received. Well done! In practice, an emotion that adds to the emotion of seeing the stones! There were a couple of small flaws, however. The dehumidifier, which is essential, is a bit too annoying when it starts working again in the morning. On a structure of this level I would try to further reduce its impact. Even though they were precise and friendly at the reception, as well as available to satisfy our requests for information, in my opinion the moment of payment could have been managed better. Since it was specifically a surprise, I wouldn't have wanted to let my wife know the price paid. I would have preferred the receptionist to have addressed the issue with more tact and discretion, perhaps asking who was responsible for paying, perhaps then showing the amount on paper. Even if the surprise was ruined to a small extent, it was still a high-level, decidedly satisfying experience.

Everything was absolutely PERFECT! Upon Reservation a contact was set up with regular emails informing about parking and access solutions. Welcome to the Top. The cave room is great. The whole facility is modern, clean hyper functional. The location is breathtaking, magical, exceptional... we had a great time etched in our memory forever. THANK YOU!

Very nice room in a cave, good bedding, beautiful and large bathroom. A very warm welcome from Christina whom we thank for her very useful information to maximize our visit to Matera in 2 half days. Perfect hotel location, with magnificent views of the old town and the Duomo Cathedral. Excellent breakfast on the terrace which benefits from this same superb view, which in our opinion is the most beautiful possible view of Matera 😉 Before our arrival, video and information on access to parking solutions reach us directly by WhatsApp and on booking. We will return without hesitation.

We spent two night in the room called Bambola (Dolly), located right of the reception. The room is at ground level, quite large, with a beautiful floor and painted vaulted ceiling. Even if we arrived before checkin time there was no problem because the room was ready.
The bed was comfortable, with two pillows, one harder and the other softer. In the bathroom we found all amenities. We had a view from both windows in the room, which we enjoyed because we did not want an underground room. There room also has an outdoor seating area, which is perfect from breakfast.
The staff was courteous and helpful, we cleared all formalities very quickly and then got a map an suggestions for our itinerary.. What made the stay even more enjoyable is the location of the hotel, very close to two major attractions and close to the main, large walkway that goes across the city.
Due to Covid there was not buffet breakfast, but we could order our breakfast in advance, which was served when we asked for it in the morning and was copious and delicious. In short, the hotel is spotlessly maintained, the location is perfect and the staff helpful. I would definitely recommend and go back.

Sensational in every way! Fantastic location, stunning historic suite with equally stunning views from the terrace. Lovely, friendly staff that truely went above & beyond to make our stay so memorable. The Breakfast/Wine Bar attached was a wonderful place to sit and take in the amazing vistas and to enjoy complimentary breakfast every morning. Matera is such a unique place to visit but it is made even more special by staying at Palazzo Degli Abati.

We spent two nights in this amazing city and had a wonderful experience. Maria Antonella and Antonella were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Our room had a breathtaking view of the city and the ravine. We started each day with a delicious breakfast on the patio of the Crialoss Bistro, overlooking the city. The hotel's location is perfectly situated for exploring the local sights and restaurants. We could not have had a better time. We highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Junior Suite Deluxe ( Sapaun) located on the same level as the Bistro patio. Our experience was excellent including the kind attentive service by the Staff, location of the hotel and especially the beautiful view from the patio. The Crialoss Bistro food and drinks available were excellent and the buffet breakfast was perfect to start our days. Antonella and Maria Antonella were very helpful with restaurant and transportation reservations, as well as answering any questions we had. Highly recommend Palazzo degli Abati as the place to stay in Matera!

This hotel is the ideal place to stay in Matera. We got up in the morning and a few steps from our junior suite, we accessed the restaurant terrace, with the best view in Matera. The hotel doesn't have many rooms, but it's a great place. Several members of the reception staff spoke French.

Not really, parking is very expensive and this place is close to everywhere. The bus from the train station passes the door or they can organise a taxi for you. This is a fabulous place, enjoy your stay.
