Detailed Reviews
We choose the Palace principally on value for money and it delivered to our expectations.
When we first drove into Matera we were a bit dismayed at what seemed to be an old, run-down town. It was a relief to find the Palace - it stood out as a clean modern building, with ample parking in and around it.
The room was a good size, with excellent bathroom. Air-conditioning was a welcome (and rare) find in a mid-price European hotel. The bed was very firm. Free internet is provided, but we were unable to use it in the rooms it worked OK in the lobby.
Breakfast was included. It was a typical continental breakfast, but had a very good range of food available. Espresso coffee was made to order. We tried the in-house restaurant on one night. It was OK, without being great.
Matera is not a mainstream tourist destination, so comparatively little english is spoken there. Nonetheless, the reception staff were aware of our booking and greeted us in quite good english. Throughout our short visit (2 nights), they were friendly and always helpful.
If you are travelling to Matera to see the Sassi or nearby Trulli houses, the Palace is a good hotel choice.

The hotel is just something 10 minutes by walk away from the hystorical center. You will stay in perfect large, clean, quite rooms in a new structure. There is a large free parking. The managing is perfect, smiling, replying always with useful answers. Breakfast perfect with croissants prepared at the moment. Coffee, cappuccino or whatever else made at the moment with nice staff that ask you kindly before you ast them. The room is perfectly clean and the staff is very discrete. I very recommend this Hotel.

This hotel is situated about 300 metres from Matera Central Station. Although it is on the opposite side of the station from the old town of Sassi, it was still only a 10 minute walk to the main centre. The hotel is relatively modern, but quiet when we stayed for 3 nights in July. We stayed on a B&B basis. Although the breakfast buffet had a limited range available, the quality was excellent - a real taste of good local Italian food. Rooms were comfortable and air conditioned. Staff spoke good English and were really helpful. Sometimes we are suspicious of a competitively priced hotel, but no need in this case, it was excellent value for money. Matera is a beautiful old town, with a great atmosphere in the evening. We arrived by train from Bari - a scenic journey. Tourists their seemed mainly Italian and unlike the 'north' many locals don't speak English - so take your phrase book.

My mother and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, in juy 2012. Although the hotel is not directly within the sassi, it was within easy walking distance from the city centre (about 5 min away). The service was great and the hotel manager was very helpful. We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend it to others. The only odd aspect about the city of Matera was that we had a hard time finding restaurants to eat at night. We ended up eating at the hotel both nights, which was fine since the food was very good. The city was definitely different compared to other touristic italian cities, however it is definitely worth visiting!

We were here for just one night and the Hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from Old Town.
Rooms are large and clean.
They could do with a refurb but overall it is fine and reasonable pricing.
They have car parking which was great for us.
Breakfast is basic but still ok.
Staff were great and friendly.
I would have no problems staying here again and am happy to recommend.

The Palace Hotel is one of the best hotels I ve ever been. The services are very good, food also, and the waiters and other employees behave proper and kindly with tourists. The rooms are very clean due to the guys who worked at cleaning especially Karan ! In my opinion internet services could be improved.

This modern hotel must have been built some 20 years ago and it would need some refurbishing, but overall it is still a convenient accomodation, especially for large groups or conferences (it has a conference centre in the basement). The staff are kind and cooperative and the restaurant serves average/good food (breakfast could offer more choices, but it is ok). There is a large parking plaza around the hotel. It is quiet. The walk to the old centre of town (the "sassi") takes a good ten minutes downhill. Prices are very reasonable,

We were booked at this hotel through an agent. It leaves much to be desired...almost everything.
The hotel is located outside the main area of Matera in a "plaza" of sorts facing a couple of apartment/condo buildings. It's outdated and in need of serious work....aside from the parking lot that's being resurfaced. We were booked for 2 days but checked out after one night and moved to a beautiful place where all the action and sightseeing takes place.
The breakfast was okay but the service was poor.

We booked this hotel online for an amazing price last August. We stayed several nights and were impressed by the staff and location. A 10 min walk to the Sassi area and close to the railway. The hotel although slightly dated was very clean and we would definitely stay again.
