The small hotel is situated in a quiet residential and safe neighbourhood close to the historic centre. There are stairs which take you down to the Sassi in about 10 minutes. There is a car park and a lovely pool. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed ourselves without even needing our car. The room was well maintained and quiet; AC worked very well. The breakfast was pretty good: boiled eggs, juices, focaccia, fruits. Beer and other beverages are being offered. We were particularly happy as regards the friendly and helpful staff: they gave helpful advice as regards restaurants and even organized tickets for Castel del Monte. A good choice if you travel to Matera with your car.

We intentionally chose Hotel Casino Ridola knowing it was a short walk to the old town. In the past, driving into an ancient city, looking for parking and finding our room has been a nightmare for us. So the idea of driving up to this beautiful small hotel on a quiet street with a protected parking area was perfect. The room was modern and beautifully furnished. There was a pool and garden which is perfect for a siesta and a break in the day. Walking to town to tour and have dinner only took a few minutes -- it was easy to explore the town without the aggravation of dealing with a car. The people who work here are friendly and helpful and the breakfast was outstanding. Hotel Casino Ridola is a really nice place. I highly recommend it.

It is difficult for me to find a hotel that satisfies everything: this was the case with the Hotel Ridola. Let's start from the location, ideal because it allows you to arrive by car, use the internal parking, then reach the center of Matera on foot in 10/15 minutes. The location is quiet and free of noise. The hotel is aesthetically very pleasant, everything has been renovated with care and attention but also with great taste. The rooms are large and comfortable, comfortable beds, including mattresses and pillows, comfortable bathroom, but everything is extremely functional as well as beautiful. You sleep well but you can also stay in your room and work with the very efficient Wi-Fi. Breakfast with a wide choice and good products, therefore largely satisfactory. Fantastic staff for kindness and competence. What else to say? It will be my fixed point for when I have to stop in Matera.

Spent 2 nights here in a Deluxe Room with a huge terrace. Clean and well maintained, staff spoke English and were welcoming and helpful. Good quality bed linen and towels, secure parking. 10 minute walk to the Sassi with lots of shops and restaurants. We booked an Ape Tour which although cost £70 was well worth the money, Vito picked us up from the hotel and we walked back.

Nice pool and garden, however the sun loungers are awful, really uncomfortable, impossible to sit and relax for long, also no umbrellas so the only shade is to pull the lounger under a tree and keep moving around, not ideal, lots of insects dropping from the trees and in the grass.

Good Italian breakfast.

Would recommend would probably not stay again as we wanted to spend time relaxing by the pool in between walking to and from the Sassi, this was impossible, maybe some new loungers and some umbrellas.

Mrs Annabelle, thank you for your review. We are very pleased that you appreciated the large terrace in the Deluxe room, the careful cleaning, the helpfulness and professionalism of our Staff, the quality of our linen and the free parking service. We are sorry that you were not completely satisfied with our pool service, despite the fact that it is a well-maintained and constantly monitored service. We chose not to install beach umbrella, taking advantage of the natural shade of our trees and not spoiling our little natural paradise, which is usually much appreciated by our Guests. We hope to welcome you for a next stay in fairytale Matera! HOTEL CASINO RIDOLA 4* - MATERA

Lovely helpful staff. Great location with secure parking and only 10/15 mins walk to the centre as long as you are prepared for a steep uphill walk with steps for the return journey. Pool area clean and quiet and a welcome relief for afternoon heat.

Breakfast is primarily cold simple continental style. No hot options.

Aircon ok; seemed to blow in cycles rather than continuously.

Main criticism is the strong toxic fragrance used. Was informed it was fragranced cleaning products and we kept doors open on 1st day which was a nuissance in hot August weather but the smell was giving headaches and congestion. Took 2 days to leave bedroom. We didnt have room cleaned on 2nd day as smell was still there. We had also asked the lovely girl on reception that the fragranced products not be used which she duly noted. By the 2nd evening it had all but gone from the bedroom but unfortunately it is used throughout the corridors and the smell permeates. It hits you when you enter the building especially hallway and stairwell. Smell reminded me of the shop Lush ! If you are allergic/intolerant / migraine triggered by strong air freshener type fragrances then I would avoid this hotel which is a shame as it is a lovely boutique hotel.

5 stars why?

Because the true and authentic kindness of the girls who welcome you upon your arrival must be rewarded. The genuine smile with which you are accompanied to your rooms, the politeness and availability in asking you if you need anything for breakfast after making sure you have slept well is priceless... just the stars😄.

Very nice, clean and comfortable structure at the foot of the city

Great experience even if only for one night. Super kind staff, in particular Enza who had already shown herself to be courteous and helpful on the phone, then up close also very sweet and affable, very nice, clean and comfortable rooms. Ancient, historic structure (G. Pascoli stayed there when he taught at high school), very beautiful and very well maintained a stone's throw from the centre, to be returned in the summer so as to also be able to use the swimming pool. Highly recommended♥️♥️♥️

A very beautiful establishment ideally located near the Historic Center where you will be welcomed with great professionalism by Alexia and Enza. They will give you informed advice on discovering Matera, visits and restaurants with a brochure included. Large and very comfortable bedroom and bathroom; top sweet and savory breakfast at your convenience! You leave your car in the parking lot and do everything on foot with a pretty little garden and a swimming pool! One of the wonderful memories of our vacation! Very good value for money. The city is difficult on foot for people who have difficulty getting around, but you can arrange a Piaggio at reception! Thank you to the team for taking great care!

Stayed there 1 night only but were very impressed and definitely shall go back one day. Enza from the reception kindly reserved us a room by phone and held it without prepayment even. Once we arrived, she kindly provided us with the map, marking the best attractions, places to eat, etc. Very helpful indeed! The hotels is just steps away from Sassi and the city center. Their parking is very convenient and safe. Was a bit fresh for swimming but pool is nice and clean, they also have a cosy garden. Clean and spacious room and bathroom, perfectly fresh croissants for breakfast.
