We visited Matera the weekend of 2nd April 2017 with wife and daughter, and spent 2 nights at Caveoso Hotel. When leaving on the last morning, we realized that the mattresses were infested with insects. My daughter was covered in bites. Disgusting! I have travelled all over Africa for many years, but this is my worst experience. And I paid...

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at the Caveoso. It is ideally situated in the Sassi, a short walk from the new town, with cafes and restaurants a leisurely two minute walk. Stunning views abound. Matera is well deserving of its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rooms can be rather damp but it is, after all,...

This was one of six hotels/B&Bs we stayed in during a trip through Puglia and it certainly was the worse, which was a great pity, as it was in a great position and Matera is a spectacular and fascinating town. Having said that, our room was OK , especially after we had opened the balcony doors to let some fresh...

Stayed here for 3 nights . The position is superb , the town is stunning but..............the Caveoso - oh dear. The manager is as unfriendly as you can get and is clearly in the wrong business. Room was bare and lacking in any comfort, not like the room shown in the photograph. The shower went from cold to scalding hot...

So looking forward to staying in a cave room but this was rather a disappointment, supposed to be a junior suite but it lacked toiletries, the towels were thin, thin cotton, no shower door/curtain so water went everywhere.Mini bar consited of 1 beer and a bottle of water and everything felt muggy and damp and the floor was gritty and...

Stayed here one night on our Italy road trip. The hotel is very well placed for wandering the historic area of Matera. We had read a lot of reviews about air conditioning but had no issues. Breakfast is mediocre and staff could brush up the service level... But if you're in Matera and want to live right in the middle,...

The hotel is right in the center of Sassi, a 10 - 15 minute walk to the main piazza of Matera and a 2 minute walk to the gorge overlook (Parco della Murgia Materana) with a view of a large suspension bridge at the bottom. It is also very close to the Casa Noha. It is worth the stay at...

Location for this hotel was great, easy to find and within walking distance of the square. However we were disappointed that the rooms weren't as authentic as we had hoped. the only part of the hotel that looked cave-like was the dining room. Reception girl was pleasant as was the lady who served breakfast otherwise the staff were dismissive. Breakfast was...

I am truly hard-pressed to imagine how ANYONE could rate this place higher than a zero or one. What are these great reviews based upon? I can only guess that the high rated reviews were posted by people who have never actually stayed in a quality hotel or were recently released from some prison colony. Yes, the Caveoso is in...
