When we were walking to the hotel, loaded down with bags and paranoid about the infamous Termini pickpockets, we were getting more and more apprehensive. From the outside, this hotel looks scary. But, as soon as you get inside, you're pleasantly surprised. The rooms are large and clean, and the location is EXTREMELY close to the train station (the reason... More

I had the most wonderful experience of staying in Piccolo Principe during my trip to Rome. The place is located very close to the Termini. It's essentially just a 5-10 mins walk from the entrance of Roma Termini. The closest metro station is also just about a 10 - 15 mins walk from the hostel. The place is located inside... More

I've stayed in dozens of 2 star hotels (once called pensioni - bathroom down the hall) in Italy and this ranks with the better ones. It is a given that a 2 star hotel will not come with all the amenities of the better 3 and 4 star hotels. On the other hand I've paid 2x as much for horrible... More

This was my fourth city and hence fourth hotel in Italy. This was clearly the cheapest among the four and I have quite a fair bit of concern with it. But my experience has proved otherwise. Location: Extremely close to the train station. Easy access. Although others mentioned about strange looking people, I guess it's just the colour of their... More

The hostess, Luana was quite friendly and helpful with maps and information for us. While she is not on site a lot of the time, she can be there when needed and can be contacted. While the neighbourhood looks fairly seedy, we had no troubles coming or going at any time. The hotel is conveniently located near the train station,... More

After much research for where to stay a few nights in Rome we decided for a B&B by Stazione Termini which would be convenient for busses, trains and subway lines. Don't expect a nice neighborhood....but that goes for most areas near any major train station. It includes a BASIC breakfast which is fine for us being that we are used... More

At first, this B&B seemed very accommodating. They emailed me and asked for my estimated arrival time and said it was ok to check in a little early. Which I thought was nice. When we arrived to the hotel, I thought we were in the Ghetto of NYC, spray paint across the door and very trashy looking. The B&B was... More

We loved the place right away. It has a LIFT ( not always available in Europe!) to the 5th floor. High ceilings and a pleasant atmoshere, VERY nice and helpful owner Luana! she was all organised with Maps and Info! Excellent location. Everywhere in the world near a train station do you fine "different looking people" but we did not... More

It was nice! Luana is always kind to us and we really thank her. Sometimes, somebody already ate almost all food, but we usually could enjoy enough self-serve breakfast. The room may be little noisy because it is right by the train station. However it didn't matter to me. And I think the B&B is rather well-located, especially if have... More

First impressions were great, especially after meeting the owner who happened to be very nice and helpful person. but... during our stay we had several problems. the place was dirty, nobody brushed the dust under the bed and on the floor. then there were so-called breakfast. first morning we had everything we needed, last morning - well, no words needed,... Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
There are four very nicely decorated rooms with private bathroom (all with shower stalls) at Piccolo Principe B & B. Each one has colorful walls and interesting furniture pieces that the owner, Luana, has restored or refashioned from things purchased in small markets around Rome. They all have new parquet floors, recently built bathrooms, TV with cable and satellite, and colorful, comfortable bed spreads. In the common area there are many books in a variety of languages, access to a DSL internet line (or wifi) if you're traveling with a laptop, and a place to serve oneself breakfast from the items provided in the kitchen. It's clear that the owner has taken great care in putting her place together. ... more   less
