When you read all the reviews of the hotel, most mention the train that arrives to Roma termini. Don't take it unless you want to walk about half a mile inside the terminal before arriving to the street. On top of that in the train you have to carry your bags with you. Very uncomfortable. Instead take the bus. It's... More

We stayed at the Hotel Villafranca in July 2011. It was for a family vacation. The hotel is situated in a mixed area with lots of small boutique hotels nearby. It is located a block away from the Castro Pretorio Metro station as well as the UNICEF headquarters in Rome. There are many nice restaurants within easy walking distance. The... More

My wife, 4 year old son, and myself stayed here for the 5 days in the middle of July 2011. It was fine. The rooms are clean and well stocked. We had trouble connecting to the internet from our room so they gave us another room. It turned out to be quite nice as we got a rooftop patio. We... More

I stayed at Villafranca 6/17-6/21, and had a wonderful experience! I was hesitant at first, due to the negative reviews on tripadvisor, but I was in for a surprise! The hotel is located on a small street, but it's very close to pretty much all of Rome's main attractions (we walked everywhere, but the main trainstation is about 5 blocks... More

On arrival, hotel foyer is quite nice like the pictures on the web but that is really where it stops. Reception staff were not friendly and occasion quite rude even allowing for the roman attitude. The rooms are quite small and the bathroom was tiny. The beds are not very comfortable and we would expect a better standard from a... More

Not a 4 star hotel! First week in June and AC turned off at night, by the 3rd day we were told they turn off the AC at night to save electicity & we should just open the window. No matter what the tempature was at night we had to sleep with the window open. The ONLY electical outlet that... More

We stayed at BW Hotel Villafranca 9 Roma only for one night, pre-cruise, Oct. 2010. Small hotel, friendly staff, decent breakfast-buffet included in the price. Our room was clean, but the bed was like sleeping on cement. Senior AARP rate paid 144Euro.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
