Nestled near the Vatican, Villa Agrippina Gran Meliá is celebrated for its serene and stylish atmosphere, offering a tranquil oasis amidst Rome's vibrancy. Guests laud the varied room types and picturesque views, though some have noted issues with room size and noise. The hotel's amenities, including a beautiful pool and luxurious spa, are highly praised, ensuring a relaxing retreat. While the cleanliness of the property receives high marks, the hotel's pricing, particularly for dining, has led some guests to question its overall value. I’ve been coming to Rome since I was eighteen years old, and I’ve stayed all over the city in a wide range of accommodation levels. Rome is one of those strange cities where there’s such a tourist draw; fine hotels don’t have to try too hard to retain a loyal following and call themselves “luxury.” For this reason and unlike other cities in Europe, it’s been hard to find me and my husband a home away from home in the Eternal City. I thought we had found it last year with a stay at Hotel Hassler – a perfect stay. However, little did I know until our trip this year that Villa Agrippina has even Hotel Hassler beat in terms of facilities and service. I think we waited so long to try Villa Agrippina due to the location – an extra 10-15 minutes’ walk from the major sites in the city. Little did I know this extra walk is a strong reason to stay at the hotel. It really removes you from Rome’s chaos and makes you feel like you’re part of something special.

The fantastic experience started last year when I booked our room and started speaking with the front desk and concierge team about details and logistics concerning the trip. Major shout outs to Francesca, Giulia, Inna, Scilla, and Gianfranco for all their detailed and organized communication with me via email. The team even went ahead and honored a Leading Hotels of the World Sterling room upgrade within a week of my booking date, which was impressive.

The hotel arranged a car pickup from Termini, Mercedes E-Class or similar. I was excited when we walked up to the car, it was a brand-new Audi A6. I drive Audi vehicles at home in Dallas, so being in something stylish and familiar was enjoyable while we drove across town and crossed the river. As we approached the turn up the hill toward the resort gates, something happened in a matter of seconds. The crowds and traffic just disappeared. No one was around. We drove through the gates and up to the roundabout. We were greeted by four members of staff. Not one, not two, but four. Their smiles, energy, and friendliness were fantastic. Between the hospitality, meticulous landscaping surrounding us, stunning villa façade, and absolute silence, we were really taken back. Villa Agrippina is another world, isolated from Rome’s chaos.

The hotel just oozes in style at every turn. The frosted glass entrance doors to the lobby offer a neat effect. You don’t see what you’re about to walk into, and then the automatic doors part. You’re greeted with lots of marble, large-scale sculpted art, stunning chandeliers, and a reception desk where you are invited to sit for the check-in process. Check-in was quick and friendly, then we were escorted to our room and given a quick rundown of our Junior Suite. The room was very large, especially by Rome standards. It included a proper sitting area, two televisions, a wonderful king-size bed, and an impressive bathroom area with a huge bathtub and wet area featuring a large rain head shower, and even a window for fresh air. I also really appreciated the two wardrobes – plenty of space for both of us to unpack.

The hotel’s food and beverage program were fantastic, and the lobby lounge/bar off the main entrance was stunning. The room was full of intimate sitting areas, flowers & plants, impeccable furnishings, and a beautiful bar at the center. Service was very attentive, and we enjoyed cocktails and snacks here two of our three days. In addition, the breakfast spread was plentiful, and I appreciated the variety of hot and cold offerings.

Final note – I cannot recommend Villa Agrippina enough. If you crave top-level bespoke service, modern luxury, and a peaceful respite from one of the Europe’s craziest cities, this is the place for you!

We have just returned for a four night stay at the hotel for our first visit to Rome.

I chose to book this hotel for our Rome city break as we have previously stayed at the Gran Melia in Tenerife and the ME London locations and loved both.

We booked a standard room with full breakfast and made use of the pool, outdoor drinks area and the concierge.

The breakfast buffet included was an easy option to start the day. There were hot options, pastries, fresh juice and fruit as well as some salad and cereals.

The room had Clarins toiletries with a shower over a bath and separate toilet room. During the time we spent in Rome the midday lows were 30 degrees up to 34 degrees and we did find our air conditioning was not as powerful as we would liked.

The location of the hotel was perfect, right by Vatican City and Trastevere and a little bit of a further walk in to the main town and all the main attractions.

The pool really was an amazing bonus. When looking for a hotel in Rome it was hard to find an outdoor pool but after a day of walking in the heat it was perfect to come back to the pool.

The concierge was really helpful for reservations and recommendations. We didn’t have lunch or dinner at the hotel and opted to try out different local places but the food we did see looked great.

Drinks were pricey but it is a 5 star hotel so we expected premium prices.

The trip was for my fiancés 30th birthday and the staff arranged a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and a cake which was such a nice gesture.

We would definitely come back to this hotel.

Perched on top of the Esquiline Hill, Villa Agrippina is in a quiet location once the gardens of the mother of Nero. It is very close to the Vatican. Walking around the area there are other less well-known sights. The descent to the Tiber by foot is steep but this takes one to the end of the bridge leading into the main area of the city

Rooms vary depending on price. The lowest entry level room is relatively small and has no views of which to speak making the room dark. There are coffee making facilities and free WiFi. The Bathroom is designed well with a wet area containing both bath and shower.

Breakfast is excellent with a good cod selection of meats, fruit and cheeses. The pastries and cakes are especially good. Eggs may be ordered separately. There is brunch on a weekend. Food at lunch or dinner is good if one does not want to venture out.

The staff merit a special commendation. Friendliness is obvious from the start. Assistance with all requests is met with a smile and the requisite knowledge and resolution.

Dear SueKot, thank you for choosing Villa Agrippina a Gran Melia Hotel and for sharing your positive feedback ! Indeed, our property benefits of a stategic position just a few steps from Vatican City and other major city sights. We are delighted as well to know that you truly appreciated our rich breakfast proposals and on site hotel dining. With regret we read that somehow our rooms fell short from your overall expectations. In fact, our rooms layout and size differ from the category booked and its floor. Thus, we are always ready to go above and beyond to satisfy personal accommodation preferences finding best solutions. Finally, receiving you during your time in Rome has been one of the most blissing professional occasions for all of our Staff to create irreplaceable memories while always supporting you all your visit long. We thank you again for your valuable time and we are looking forward to welcome you back in the nearest future. Warmest regards, Inna Kelep Guest Experience Department

Let’s just say getting here is crazy in its own right. No valet parking, you have to park in a parking garage so it’s self parking, no worries it’s just they should say it’s self parking.
Parking was $4O dollars a day in case your interested.

The room is nice, the tub is really slippery so you have to be careful you don’t fall into the glass. The bed is ok. They have slippers and a Nescafé coffee maker, robe and a safe.

Location is fabulous located near Vatican.

Restaurant for dinner was awful, I ordered the ravioli and had to send them back. My husband ordered the chicken Cesar salad that was good and a burger he said that was good. You have to watch the prices on the menu and what you are charged. Ravioli was $20 on the menu and they charge you $24 not a big deal but just something you should watch.

Service was amazing, pool was amazing! You can order food and drinks from the pool which is nice.

They brought me champagne for my birthday I thought that was nice! We would come back it was nice. I hope they fix the tube!

Thanks Melina!

DearMs. Melina, We wish to express our gratitude for choosing Villa Agrippina A Gran Meliá for your recent stay and for your time taken to share your feelings about your experience with us. We are pleased to know how much you appreciated the suggestive location of our hystorical building. Indeed, the resort allows our guests to enjoy their relaxing moments surrounded by the green of the gardens and its strategic position, letting everyone walk across the most beautiful attractions of the Eternal City. Thank you for the words dedicated to the professionalism of our staff, your highlights represent a source of great motivation as we do really care about all of our guests, aiming to make their stay unique and unforgettable. It is a shame to know that despite your overall good feelings about service and settings, some services did not meet your expectation, and prevented you from living a full fill experience. Please allow me to explain regarding the valet parking service is temporary unavailable to avoid covid19 contagion. We are likewise sorry about your discontent as to the dinner, since it is based on exclusive concept focusing on the quality and genuineness’ products, cared by our Chef, and prepared on a daily basis. In closing, I wish to thank you once again for sharing your experience and we look forward to serving you in the future. At this regard, please consider myself at your disposal for any assistance you might need. Thank you very much Samuel Hamilton Guest Experience Manager

We have just got back from 7 days, in this fabulous hotel, right by the Vatican. We stayed in the Red Level Loft suite with teenager. The room was on 2 floors and beautifully furnished. We would recommend the Red level benefits : soft drinks, tea & coffee all day otherwise you would be paying €8 for a Diet Coke. So this gave us unlimited poolside drinks in the heat which was needed without racking up an enormous drinks bill. The food menu we felt was very limited but due to Covid there was only one restaurant and menu to choose from day and night. Breakfast was a la Carte not buffet for the same reasons. The staff work tirelessly and we’re all fabulous (will list them at the end) but the hotel was understaffed particularly by the pool and bar area. 1/2 persons serving the whole outside space with food and drinks by the pool.. just wasn’t enough. We understood that the hotel has had massive losses due to Covid as have most businesses however, guests are paying good money and there should be a better ratio of staff to guests.
If you are looking for a little oasis of luxury with a gorgeous poolside area and very comfy pool beds for your touring city break. This is a fantastic choice.
The reception team helped us with fabulous restaurant recommendations and reservations and each one was as good as the next.
Dar Poeta (the best pizza - very reasonable)
Il Corallo (stunning food, we went twice in 7 days)
Fattioncasa by la denesa (lovely)
We did a walking tour of the Ghetto area, the Vatican and a Segway tour which was amazing fun.
The fantastic staff list below who worked tirelessly to make everyone happy.

Before writing my contribution I went through some negative feedbacks provided in the past and have to say that I was totally disappointed by the nature of comments provided.
Those visitors did not understand at all what they were up to.
A superb location in central Rome with a large pool area; an old Villa basically 5mn walking distance from Castel Sant'Angelo & Saint Peter's Square, sites that are known worldwide also because Dan Brown has described them with passion and details in the great book "Angel and Demons".
Centuries of history surrounding this great hotel that deserves to be rewarded highly only because of this aspect.
The rest is only dressing; but what a dressing!
Premises are in very good conditions and room vary according to the kind of room you decide to opt for. We went for a Suite with a Whirlpool in the terrace overlooking the Vatican area.
There were a few minor details to fix in the room allocated to us but all was more than OK. Quality of sleep was good with different pillows available.
The room was always immaculate in terms of cleaning.
The staff was great in terms of availability but most of all kindness which is something I personally value a lot.
True, we are not yet at the perfection levels of top notch services available in some Asian resorts but who cares after all? The staff will improve over time and experience. I loved them and will go back. For sure.
The weather was fantastic even if a bit hot but the pool & a Moscow Mule were always there to refresh us.
Just a bit expensive but as it is being said in England "Go hard, or go home".

When originally considering where to stay in Rome, we quickly learnt that the vast majority of 5-star hotels in central Rome did not have a pool. We began to consider whether we should sacrifice having a pool in the 40 degrees heat for staying in a hotel close to all the top sites Rome has to offer - then we stumbled upon this gem! The hotel has a huge pool, worthy of a beach resort, where attentive staff bring you bottled water and present you with the softest towels. The rooms are very intricately designed and furnished. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and respected.

…and we were just so close to Rome’s top sites: 5 minutes to the steps of the Vatican and 10 to Piazza Navona and the heart of Rome. We cannot wait to come back!! Thank you Villa Agrippina!!

This hotel has a beautiful location. The accommodations are wonderful. Beautiful design throughout the hotel. We were upgraded to a larger room as we were staying for a whole week which was greatly appreciated. We were disappointed that all the facilities were not available during our stay but realise that this was unavoidable due to the Covid 19 regulations but it would have been great to have been made fully aware beforehand of all that we would miss out on. There was a beautiful lounge to the left of the reception area that was closed the whole time we were there and drinks were instead served outside on the patio. The spa was out of action which was a huge shame as it was one of the main reasons that we booked the hotel although treatments were available. Breakfast was strange and staff seemed unrehearsed in the new protocols.
To summarise, we will definitely be back when all restrictions have been lifted but at the moment I’m not sure it’s worth the money.

Dear 602benjamind, Thank you very much for taking your time to share your recent Experience at Villa Agrippina a Gran Melia Hotel. We are grateful for your nice words regarding the hotel lcoation, accommodation and design; we are equally happy to read that your upgraded room was appreciated and made your one week stay with us as comfortable as it deserved to be. However, it saddens us to read that you were disappointed about the facilities not available. We would like to highlight that facilities and services were running smoothly: only the Spa wellness path - sauna, steam baths, emotional showers - is still temporarily suspended due to Covid19 measures, whilst treatments and massages are available and under reservation. All facilites normally running during summer time are working: outside pool and bar service, our Gala restaurant open throughout the day with possibility of dining inside, outside on the patio overlooking the pool or even dinners by the pool and gym under reservation. We are sorry you had the feeling expressed above; the areas you mentioned belonfg to the inside winter venues that we will be opening soon in the changing of seasonality; during the summer thanks to our lovely location with gardens and pools, the outside venues are normally more appealing. We would lilke as well to assure you that all our Staff throughout the departments has been well and highly trained to adapt their usual duties to the strictest protocols that have been introduced due to Covid19 for the safety of our guests and associates, too. Indeed, it has been challenging for everybody to embrace these news measures; however, we are proud to to deliver at our best the usual service with the highest standards. We truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the closest future, and when the situation might come back to normal. Best regards, Samuel Hamilton Guest Experience Manager

Booked this as a special 70th birthday for my mother, we had a room and family also stayed and had a room - 4 nights at nearly €500 per night and we are disappointed. Service is not up to a LH, reception staff have fantastic but restaurant although we only had breakfast are not on top- every morning I ordered toast and after asking 2 / 3 times on our 4 nights I ended up with toast once as we all ate breakfast and left before it arrived.
My brothers room was not once serviced nor anyone come to remove their room service glades etc, he had a leaking tap …
As a leading member we were gifted an upgrade and a bottle of wine upon arrival and the empty bottle, glasses remained there for 3 days even though the room was cleaned.
However, our biggest issue was we booked here as a family to relax in the evenings by the bar etc and found the only open bar area was the pool which we never got a seat at as our first night seemed to have a private football function, second night was full and last night was also full but seemed to be of people from outside the hotel . Upon complaint to the receptionist the tried to offer us complimentary drinks in the main restaurant/breakfast area which is closed and indoors. We didn’t come to the hotel to remain close inside a glass cage as the restaurant is empty and all glass looking outside to the bar area. They need to rethink their priorities and cater for guests . Staff are lovely but this is not a LHW and does not merit €500 for a basic room .
