My wife & I stayed at Hotel Sonya in Oct 2011. Like others have said the location is great. What you can’t walk to you can get to on the metro that is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Our room was very clean & comfortable. Elevator was pretty cool too. Best of all was the staff that was...

Our room was a decent size, especially for Rome. The breakfast was very good and there was full access to the internet with three computers in the lobby. The hotel is close to the train station and within two blocks of the main drag, Via Nazionale, where we took the public bus to various location. We spent four nights at...

I had a nice sized room overlooking a courtyard. The location was in walking distance of the Spanish Steps and lots of shopping. There is a grocery right across the street. Reception and staff were very helpful and pleasant. A wonderful breakfast buffet each morning started us off well each day. They had the BEST cappuccino! The servers in the...

Great hotel and location. Breakfast wonderful. Booked using Rick Steve's rate of 150 euro but walk-ins were quoted 100 euro. Other 3 star hotels in area less than half. Be cautious of rate

Rooms very nice and modern. What a surprise after entering the building with the antique elevator! People were very friendly. This building has several floors that are not part of the hotel. I loved the spacious shower, especially when you compare it with some other places we stayed (where you could hardly turn around).

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
