Papa Germanos was a great experience for our travel group all around. First it's centrally located very close to the Termini(train station) which is also where all the airport charter buses drop off tourists. The service we received was perfect. As the owner soon realized, our group wanted to see everything Rome had to offer, to include a little night...

This secure hostel/hotel was just right and what the three of us needed while staying in Rome. Centrally located right by the Termini Train Station, Hotel PG was clean and had a lot of security, as well as, our own washroom and shower! The room was smaller, but we were never in there and it had great WIFI and internet...

I stayed here with 2 other friends and would recomend the place to any budget travellers out there. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The hotel is located within a few minutes walking distance of the main bus/train terminal which makes it very easy to arrive/depart Rome and of course have easy access to all of the sights; there...

Papa Germano was a great place to stay in Rome. While there were some minor annoyances (wet bathroom floors, street noise), the experience as a whole was good. The country mix was nice (I was an American staying with a Canuck and two Brasilians). Ask about the FREE wifi and check out the easy computer access in the lobby. The...

My husband and I booked a double room with a private bath for 4 nights. We were satisfied with our room and very pleased with the service that the hotel staff has rendered during our stay. Some strong points with regards to the hotel and our room: (1) Very convenient location – close to the Roma Termini station (10 min...

We booked this as part of a hostelling trip round europe and were pleasantly surprised to find out it isnt a hostel, its a very cosy and clean little hotel. It is in a lovely location right in the centre of Rome with restaurants all around and very close to the station. There is free internet in the lobby and...

Just returned from a WONDERFUL 5 night stay at this hotel with my adult daughter. We were 1st floor street side. Hotel was not luxury but we did not look for this, we shared a bath and yes some of the others did not mop floor after showers and was a minor annoyance. We had 2 baths to 4 or...

Stayed at this hotel our last night in Italy because we wanted something close to the train station-which it is. However, we did not bargain for the experience we would get. Got into our room, which was fine. Although the TV would be on for a few minutes and then freeze. We could never get it to work right. But...

As a backpacker hostel, Papa Germano would be excellent. But I would only rate their private rooms as average. Located within 5 mins walk from Termini station, area feels slightly dodgy but safe enough. However Termini is an excellent transport hub and a combination of the metro and/or bus will get you to most sights in Rome. Rooms are average...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
