We stayed here for four nights in July. The weather was very hot but room was comfortable with ac. We had the junior suite facing St Peters. It's a good size room with king bed and couch and desk and dresser and table and two chairs-very comfortable with traditional decor. The bathroom was a good size. The people on the staff...

We stayed at the Residenza Paolo VI from Friday to Monday in February. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from the closest metro station, and was easy to find. The proximity to St Peters Square means you should never get lost! The hotel is situated on the 3rd floor of an old building, but a concierge met us...

this hotel is literally on st.peters square, so less than 100 steps from basilica. I stayed here with my disabled mum and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful. The views from the terrace were spectacular and so close for the popes blessing. Food was lovely in the terrace restaurant and breakfast was lovely. Spotlessly clean, and well presented...

I can't rate this hotel highly enough . It is in a perfect location for the Vatican. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was superb. Some of the smaller rooms are basic but all very clean, peaceful and perfect for our needs. The jewel in the crown was the roof terrace with amazing views of St Peters Basilica....

We chose the hotel because of its proximity to St Peter's and it did not disappoint. The rooms are small but being this is a former monastery was not a negative feature. The rooftop terrace with spectacular views of St Peter's is well worth it. Daily breakfast features cereals, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, pastries, juices and coffee. The terrace is...

We stayed at this hotel as part of a special 50th birthday in December 2016. Its location is simply breath-taking ! The roof terrace will give you an unprecedented view of St Peter's Basilica. On our arrival here (15th December), early evening, we headed to the terrace roof for a drink. The view, coupled with a clear cobalt blue sky,...

Perfect view from roof terrace to the Vatican. Less than a minute walk from st. Pieter's square. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel is in an old monastery, rooms are good, but the furniture is basic (on purpose). Continental breakfast is being served. The "minibar" had a daily small bottle of water. Great value for money.

Excellent location! You can't get any closer to the Vatican than this hotel - and even remarkable is the history of the building itself. Rooms were clean, modern, and the staff was accommodating. But just a note - I would be specific when asking questions and getting answers as I think something gets lost in the translation somehow. Their selling...

Breakfast isn't great. The staff are lovely and location is amazing. Even a child could throw a stone and hit the Vatican from the front door. Within 60 seconds you'll be in the courtyard in front of St Peters Cathedral.

Visited this hotel the week before Christmas with some friends, hotel is in a great location overlooking the Vatican. The rooms were very clean, and quiet at night and the rooftop bar was a lovely place to have a nightcap or a coffee just before bed. 1st photo is from hotel rooftop, 2nd front of Vatican, 3rd is view from...

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza Paolo VI, established on the premises of an Augustinian Monastery, was inaugurated at the beginning of the Holy Year 2000. The genius loci and the charm of tradition, still alive in its ancient walls, make this property your "private" haven in Rome, far away from chaos, in the pulsing heart of the Eternal City. Rome has many hotels, but only one of them is located directly on St. Peter's Square (Vatican): Residenza Paolo VI, the ideal place for those wishing to stay in the heart of Christendom, close to St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Grottoes, the Necropolis, St Peter's and Saint John Paul II's tombs, the Vatican Gardens and St. Angel's Castle. Walking along the Vatican Wall, it's easy to reach the Vatican Museums and visit the famous Sistine Chapel. Furthermore, some of our rooms offer special view of the Holy Office or of the internal courtyard of the ancient monastery or even of St. Peter's Dome. From our magnificent Terrace it is possible to admire up close St. Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace, exactly where the Holy Father Pope Francis appears to bless the faithful and to recite the Sunday Angelus. ... more   less
