In a city famous for its expensive hotels, the Hotel Montecarlo provides good value for money. Do not be put off by its exterior. It's nothing special at all from the outside but the lobby and rooms are of a good standard. Its best asset is its location. Located in the embassy district, only a five minute walk from a...

This was my third trip to Rome and Hotel Montecarlo was my best choice to date. It was great value, extremely clean, the staff is friendly and efficient. The one negative was the width of our beds. I shared a twin room with a friend and we both had the same sensation that our single beds were narrower than normal....

Stayed here in Sept of 2009. Don't expect American standards here, room in Italy are much different then in the US. The hotel lobby and coffee bar area were beautiful and the staff was great even the ones that did not speak much English tried their best to be helpful. The rooms are a decent size. We had a room...

Room was clean and the breakfast was adequate. very friendly staff, helped us to plan our itenerary and provided information whenever required. one disappointment was expensive internet and should...

My fiance and I enjoy traveling on a budget and did not want to settle for any hotel that was less than 3-star. I found a great deal (for Rome prices) on this hotel at one of the major travel consolidator websites. The hotel has a fantastic location--6 blocks walking distance from Rome Tremini Station. The neighborhood was secure, and...

This Hotel was in a great location, 10 min walk from tremini train station located in a very clean part of town. Upon check in the staff was nice and friendly, they took us to our room and made sure we were happy. The rooms are very very clean and roomy for italian standards. The bathrooms were nice and big,...

I have been Rome four times, I wish I could have found this hotel much earlier. It is located in an old building, the triple room I stayed is very nice and quiet. 5 min walking distance from Metro station and several bus lines as 62, 492 reach historical center directly. Staffs are very friendly and helpful! I would like...

The pleasant suprise about this hotel was the staff- very friendly and helpful. They gave very good recommendations to places! The location is away from tourist areas which is really nice and around all the embassy's. We could walk to the train station and Piazza de Repubblicca which has an English speaking movie theatre too! The breakfast was reasonable- just...

Nice, pleasant 3-star hotel in the embassy area about 10 minutes' walk from the main railway station. Rooms and showers a bit small; the superior room is better. Internet access in the room if you ask them, but unfortunately no tea service. Staff are generally friendly. Their best and most efficient staff is Franco at the reception desk. Always courteous,...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
