Awful hotel, dirty bug infested rooms mould on walls just terrible. Area is OK but our experience of Rome was ruined by a filthy bug ridden room, room was also way too hot. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Would give it 0 stars if I could.

Lovely staff, a good selection at breakfast, a lovely big room, spotless clean, nice and warm, comfy enough bed but 2 singles pushed together, loads of hot water, good WiFi, beautiful to sit outside, small bar with limited selection, 20 minute walk from the train station

Very nice and cosy little hotel. Clean and fresh. Fantastic staff in the reception. Very helpful, service minded and kind. Relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was perfect for a day in the city. We were three persons in once bigger room and that worked out fine. Family Blechert

This hotel really has nothing to offer. The area is awful. Full of graffiti, dog poo, broken bottles, rubbish everywhere. Filthy! When you pay city taxes for your stay then you'd expect they would clean the streets. Lots of homeless people, which is ok but its just so scruffy. 20 minute walk towards Rome. The hotel itself is of low quality. All the pictures look like a romantic hotel full of charm, when in fact they are cheap and tacky. Poor decor. The room stank of an old musty antique shop. Couldn't wait to get home and wash my clothes. The shower was good though. The breakfast was OK, you got what you paid for @ €5. The beer on offer was rubbish. Overall I would not recommend this hotel or area. Stay central to Rome where its cleaner and easy access to the sites.

So, just got back literally this morning from our 2 night stay at Villa San Lorenzo Maria in Rome. Well the outskirts of Rome. We were told it was pretty central when booking but the reality was that it was a bit of a way out from the sights we wanted to visit. Everything was far from our hotel but we was happy using the excellent kind of tube service they had going on. The public transport is fantastic and without that we’d have been pretty screwed to be honest. We got to the airport and the taxi from the airport was €40 which for a 20 minute journey I personally thought was quite steep, but, we’ve just arrived, we’re excited, let’s not dwell on it and just get on with things. We arrived in San Graffito, I mean, SAN LORENZO. Jesus, we live in the outskirts of Manchester so are used to ‘rough’ kind of areas but this place is a proper s#it hole. Really run down, rubbish everywhere, overloaded bins, graffiti like you have never seen before, literally every wall is full of graffiti. I have seen loads of reviews about trouble and it being scary at night but that wasn’t true. We walked around late at night and had zero problems but to be honest a lot of the surrounding areas of Rome are a bit of a dump! Onto the hotel, it’s really traditional, you really feel like you’re in Italy when you’re there. Our room was nothing like the pictures shown when booking it through Love Holidays but you know, you get what you’re given. The hotel is dead dainty and cute but our room in particular wasn’t great, it was traditional like I said and old fashioned which is acceptable but the bed may aswell been made out of stone because that’s what it felt like sleeping on. Staff were lovely and welcoming, breakfast was pretty basic and not much choice. Wi-Fi was great no issues at all, very fast and Upto speed. Flat screen tele decent with about 479 Italian speaking channels, pointless. But yeah, we went to the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and of course Vatican City. All miles away from our hotel. We walked around 20 minutes to the tube station then was on 1 or 2 trains for a minimum of 15/20 minutes to each location. (They are all miles away from each other). When you’re in the vicinity of these attractions the surrounding areas are lovely and nothing like the outskirts. The food in the restaurants is average, I thought I’d be overwhelmed with the taste in Rome but to be honest it didn’t blow me away. Food prices are decent though not too expensive but the beer is ridiculously priced. €10/€13 a pint of Peroni for a country which produces it is pretty shocking to me. Overall I would rate the hotel 5/10, staff were great, hotel was nice to look at but the bed was so uncomfy and the surrounding areas are like bay root. If we went back we would stay in a different hotel and try and get closer to the centre. The attractions we visited made it an amazing trip but the hotel and location was the only downfall! Thanks.

HORROR TRIP!!!!!! DON'T GO THERE!!!!! Our car got stolen right in front of the hotel although the receptionist told us we could park there and that they have surveillance cameras to watch it. Next morning our car was gone 😭😭😭😭😭. The night Portier didn't call the police although the car's alarm went off several times. Can you believe that???? It's so crazy.. The whole area of San Lorenzo is very dirty and lots of immigrants and homeless people stay there. It is not save to go out at night and overall it is very scratchy area. One employee of the hotel told us that a few weeks ago he was attacked and robbed by three people on his way to work at 6 a.m in the morning. Can you believe that?

Response from FAMIGLIA PIROLI, Direttore generale at Villa San Lorenzo Maria Hotel
Responded 19 Jan 2023
Dear Milena, first of all we are very sorry for your bad experience, but to be honest we have to say things as they happened. Our parking is free but not guaranteed, it is subject to availability at the time of check-in. You arrived late at the hotel, with a large minivan full of personal things, we advised you to park your car full of personal things in our partner garage at the price of 20.00 euros per day, we also warned you that it was not safe leave a minivan with everything inside on the street, here in Rome as well as in Milan, Madrid, Paris, London, Brussels etc. Regarding parking under our cameras, we simply told you that if you really wanted to park on the street, it would be better to do it under our cameras. During the night the alarm of your minivan rang several times, we knocked and called your room 3 times but you never answered even though your dog barked. The minivan was still in place, but evidently someone who then escaped must have already tried to open it. The next morning the minivan was gone, we took you to the police station in our car, we offered you a free extra night to await the outcome of the police investigation, we helped you look for a flight to return to your country, we were kind and helped you as best we could in your misadventure. We behaved in this way because we are kind as well as professional, but not because we had any fault for your negligence (you also left your passports and money inside the Minivan, it seems frankly negligent to us, especially after that our staff warned you about). We also leave out the many bad words you said about our country, our city, Italian people in general, we can understand your anger but we cannot understand how we can only thank those who are trying to help you in every possible way. Cordially All the Hotel staff

We booked a room through booking.com and requested a room with separate beds and it got confirmed quickly. We had a really fast check-in in the hotel reception then we went to see our room. The room is very clean and spacious. The design is antique and the feel is cosy. We stayed for one night. The next day, the manager offered us breakfast and cappuccino for free, he was really generous and friendly. I would honestly highly recommend a stay here.

I wish I could rate my experience higher, but alas, it is a 2. I booked this hotel because they had an airport shuttle listed as an amenity. I had to take a $50 taxi ride to the hotel. Once my mother & I checked in we were surprised to see such a small, spartan room. It did not look like the photos online, but it was clean & we were tired. We had a desk & wooden chair, small double bed & a tiny bathroom. We stayed in Room 202 & it felt like a sauna. We tried turning on the air conditioning & it didn't work. The one small window would not open & a maid had to bring in a ladder to open it for us. It had been a very warm day & the room was sweltering. The window helped some, but we woke up several times during the night because of the humidity & heat. We were gone all day the next day & came back to the room even warmer than the day before. I went downstairs & spoke with the gentleman at the desk. He said that the air in our room wasn't working, but came upstairs & turned it on with a knob near the door. We closed the small window so the cool air would stay in our room. We slept great, left the next morning & came back to no air conditioning, a closed window & heat worse than ever. The gentleman at the desk told me that the air conditioning had been turned off for the season & he could not turn it on, even though it was listed as an amenity. The maid had also left a note saying that she could not get the window open. We were given a small fan that circulated the hot air, but we had no relief during the rest of our stay. It was the most miserable hotel experience I have ever had. I did get breakfast one morning & it was $5, not free as listed in the hotel description. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, if your guests are hot or cold they should be able to adjust the temperature to be comfortable in their room. I would advise anyone who is given Room 202 to change it ASAP.
