The hotel is small and very cozy. It looks like it would be a such a big flat. Only 6 rooms are at the hotel, however this fact makes things only better. You will feel like at HOME but definitely not like at the hotel. Location is just super. In the center of most probably the most romantic district of...

My husband and I, and our teenage daughter, stayed four nights at the Residenza Santa Maria. The location is great, walking distance to most of the major highlights of Rome. The hotel itself and our room were very nice and clean. Breakfast was fresh, plentify and satisfying. Best part of our stay was the fantastic hospitality, both at the front desk...

This is one of the best hotels in which I have ever stayed (and I have stayed in many, across the world). From first contact to departure we were treated brilliantly. Before we left England the hotel got in touch about transport from airport to the Residenza. We were given clear information and prices. When our flight was delayed by...

This is such a quaint little hotel in the chaotic city of Rome. My wife and I stayed here our last night to unwind. Trastevere is less touristy then other parts. This hotel was perfect for wrapping up our 2 week Italy trip. The staff, Hussain (forgive me if I misspell your name) gave us such a warm greeting and...

I usually stay in big name hotels, but wanted to stay near my friend who lives in Trastevere, so we found this little hotel which had great reviews. Rightly so. I was nervous anyway, but our warm welcome and delicious coffee put my fears at ease right away. Our room was surprisingly spacious, clean and well appointed. The breakfast buffet...

A very nice little cosy hotel in the heart of Trastevere, nice breakfast and comfortable rooms. Nice staff always with a smile and able to suggest a good tour to Gianicolo, nice walk up to a fantastic view point on all Rome. I just missed real duvets/blankets, like we sleep with in scandinavia. But I know it is common in...

We found our stay very enjoyable. The place is charming with a few lovely sitting rooms to relax in. The breakfast was among the best we had in any B & B's or larger hotels. I think because they seem to care so much. The staff is especially warm and helpful. The way they all work together to create the...

Fantastic location in Trasevere, where all the good bars and restaurants are no more than a 5 minute walk after a long day on your feet doing the hard core tourist stuff. All the major tourist attractions in Rome and the Vatican are walkable from the hotel, and navigation is easy. The staff are brilliant: friendly and all speak great...

We stayed at Residenza pre and post travelling from Rome to Croatia, Venice and Florence. The location is perfect - we only stay in Trastevere when in Rome because we love to be within walking distance of the main sights but away from the crawling hordes of tourists across the river. We love the vibe of Trastevere, the cafes, the...

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza San Calisto ( previously know Residenza Santa Maria), is a small exclusive Hotel de charme, located I the heart of Rome, just a stone's from the magnificent and picturesque square of Santa Maria in Trastevere. This boutique Hotel is the result of the skilful restoration of a 17th century building. The whole house is dominated by brick arches, wooden ceilings, artistic hand painted frescos and wall decorations which give to the Residenza Santa Maria an atmosphere of refined elegance. With only 6 rooms, the Residenza Santa Maria is somewhat smaller than its namesake which allows for even greater atmosphere, notwithstanding the fact that having only recently opened it is also equipped with high tech environment. The large and quite, no smoking, rooms, some of which family rooms, are fully equipped with private bathroom with tub and shower, A/C, telephone, mini-bar, safe, satellite flat panel TVs, free internet connection, boiler for tea/coffee and other amenities. In the breakfast room, once a Roman cistern of the II cen. BC, decorated by original ancient Roman artifacts found on site during restoration of the building, guests can enjoy a rich and delicious buffet breakfast, (scramble or boiled eggs, ham, cheese, salami, fresh bread, assortment of biscuits, cakes, fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh croissants, selection of fruit juices etc.). Thanks to great location, from the Residenza Santa Maria, guests can easily reach the main tourist sites like Campo de' Fiori, Navona Square, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi's fountain, the Roman Forum and Coliseum with just a relaxing stroll through a maze of fascinating medieval streets. The Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Square are a few minutes away. Furthermore Trastevere, apart from the beauty of its mediaeval narrow little streets, is filled with typical restaurants, markets, pubs and cafes. The Residenza Santa Maria also offers services like transfer to and from the airport, private guided tours, laundry service, shiatsu massage, beauty centre, baby sitting service and car and scooter hire, as well as offering free use of bikes to its personal guests. ... more   less
