Before I review this hotel may I warn guests that the beds have a rubberised undersheet, so if you want a decent night's sleep remove it from the bed as soon as you arrive. Having said that, the hotel is otherwise flawless given the price and rating. The reception team are welcoming and helpful, breakfasts are very good and waiting...

We are glad to hear that our reception team is “welcoming and helpful”, our breakfast is “very good” and our location “could not be better”. Concerning your complaint about our “undersheet”, we wanted to specify that it is in fact a special microfiber sponge mattress cover, directly...

This is an upscale hotel. We normally go a little cheaper when traveling, but this was worth it. The staff were very helpful in recommending and placing reservations at two local restaurants. Both were excellent. The morning breakfast is superb. There was a very friendly staff person helping with coffee, etc. He was great. The morning buffet was incredible. So,...

Perfect location, especially for foodies! The Caffè Terzi is downstairs, the Ristorante Teresina is on the same block and the Quadrilatero food market is a couple of blocks away. The Hotel Corona d'Oro is in a lovely old building, and the staff treats every guest with perfect courtesy. Especially recommended for solo women travelers. Such a pleasant stay!

Old school and redolent with history, Hotel Corona d'Oro is a stone's throw from the two towers and all the delights of this ancient city. With our expectation that the hotel's age would preclude huge and spacious modern hotel rooms met, the room, nonetheless, was clean and included everything we needed. The staff were all friendly, if a little distracted...

Travelled to Bologna by train from Florence in January. had to catch a taxi from train to hotel which was no problem and cost around 10 euro (from memory). Loved the hotel from the minute I stepped in the front door. The rooms were quite small but comfortable. The bathroom was big and had a very large shower. Both the...

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Corona d'Ora, after seeing it on Rick Stein. Admittedly we had the cheapest room, but at AUD$200+ I was expecting it to be amazing, and comparing it to other accommodation throughout our trip, it is easily forgotten (except for the price!). I enjoyed the music that played in the room, that was really nice....

We thought we might be on to a good thing when our taxi driver from the airport told us what an excellent choice we had made, 'really nice people work there' he said. The hotel is located in a cobbled pedestrian street minutes from Piazza Maggiore. It is a delightful old building, but fully modernised, with a glazed courtyard lounge....

2nd time at this wonderful hotel , tucked away in a cobbled side street, but in the middle of everything! You have to ask the taxi driver to drop you off at hotel, or he will drop you at end of street, and you have to walk down. Not really a problem though. Hotel is relaxing and has a lovely...

Comfy, and quiet room, brilliantly helpful concierges, good breakfast and, maybe most importantly, a very short walk from Piazza Maggiore, the Quadrilatero, the two towers, the statue of Neptune... Corona D'or is in a great location, close to everything. Hotel is quiet, room is good sized, bed is really comfortable and breakfast is great. Staff are really lovely, helpful and friendly. Bath water could be hotter but that is a small point. We will come again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just a short distance from the two Towers and Piazza Maggiore, in the serene setting of medieval Bologna, you will find the Hotel Corona d'Oro 1890. Its peaceful location, just a hundred meters from the two towers, is the perfect base for your visit to Bologna: its elegant furnishings and magnificent frescoes, together with a staff that is exceptionally attentive to your needs, will make your stay at our Hotel unforgettable. The palazzo, which in the 15th century was the prestigious residence of the noble Azzoguidi family, traces its origins to the 13th century. The hotel takes the visitor on a journey through various stylistic and architectural eras: from the magical art deco in the lobby, back to the frescoes of coats of arms and landscapes from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and back still further to the medieval severity of the coffered ceilings which adorn the Azzoguidi conference hall and the stately portico outside. The thoroughly renovated Hotel Corona d'Oro provides upscale amenities that ensure a luxurious and comfortable stay, fitting for even the most discerning of guests. It also offers first-class suites and spaces for conferences, meetings, and exhibitions, all of which feature independent access. ... more   less
