We loved this small, intimate hotel tucked away in an amazing part of the city. So walkable! What made it even more delightful was the staff. So helpful, so friendly and so good looking! Kudos to the hotel employers! We would definitely return. We weren’t quite as impressed with the food in the restaurant but a million choices are all around.
We had 5 nights at Cappello Rosso (as the locals call it) and the highlight was the friendly staff, behind the desk 24/7 and happy to help with anything from transport to restaurants to maps and advice. We had a 'superior room' which had a king size bed, big wardrobe and desk plus a rocking chair. The decor was ... unique (JFK theme) ... and the room had a little balcony which could be opened for fresh air. There is a guest lounge/ibrary on the ground floor which is very cozy if you wish to buy a bottle of something and just relax 'at home', play some cards or read a book. The area was very quiet so sleeping late was no problem! We took the breakfast option which was a nice easy way to start the day - the cafe in the hotel had a nice buffet with cereals, meats, fruit, pastries, juices and a small hot buffet. The breakfast cafe is open until 11 am and breakfast can be arranged early (from 5 am) if you have an early start. The hotel is located one street away from Piazza Maggiore, the main square in the old city center, and we walked everywhere during our stay, with many restaurants, cafes, museums and galleries within easy walking distance. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!…
The rooms were small, the air was shut off because of the war in Ukraine. The hotel is in walking distance of everything, except the train station. We had a train ride to Verona, needed a taxi, they failed to tell us there was an even in town, never got a taxi. We had to keep the windows open because it was hot in the room, so in the morning it got very noisy with all the activity in the side street.
Great location in center of town. Each room is different. The staff was wonderful and quick to help with restaurant reservations, directions, taxis, etc. Coffee was always available in the lobby. They even gave us a booklet with recipes in English for the local food. I would stay here again.
This is a lovely quirky individual hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Food from the next door osteria is excellent (not included in the price) for breakfast lunch and dinner. All the staff were courteous and spoke English too. The location is excellent - close enough to be in the main square in a couple of minutes but it still was quiet with no noise from crowds.
Hotel Phi is a wonderful hotel with an amazing location, helpful welcoming staff, and reasonable rates. Just steps from the central piazza and fantastic restaurants and all the main attractions of Bologna. The rooms are fun yet tasteful with individually themed rooms adorned with accent/mood lighting and nice bathrooms.
The room was quite expensive and I’m very poor repair, 108. The shower was not functioning. I had to use the handle part of the shower which subsequently sprayed water everywhere in the bathroom. After long trip you just want a comfortable room with working amenities. They sent up 2 repairer people who just looked at it and said, yes it’s very broken. Would not recommend.
We had the turquoise room which was tired and in bad need of a refresh decor wise. The bed was comfy but thats about all I can say good about the room. The breakfast was boring - 2nd rate and the same every day. Staff was good and helpful. I would not recommend
Wonderful and helpful staff. Great location. Close to the main attractions and good restaurants. Playfully decorated room made it so inviting. Breakfast had many selections. There was a relaxing lounge area with coffee available all day.
We spent one night at this fantastic hotel at the end of our time in Italy - and wish we had been able to stay longer! Our room was wonderful - we loved the themed decor (in the Elsa Schiaparelli room), and the room was clean and comfortable. We took advantage of espresso in the reception area, as well as the breakfast buffet. Highlight of the hotel is its location - on a quiet, charming side street just one block off the Piazza Maggiore. We will definitely return, and we would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bologna.
