We recently spent a night at Hotel San Donato. A perfect location from which to explore Bologna- literally you step out of the hotel and you are in the magnificent centre with all of its bustling bars and restaurants as well as beautiful churches and architecture. There is parking at the hotel at a premium of 24 euros per day but it is totally gated and secure which is vital in a busy city centre. The room is perfectly adequate and very clean as is the en suite shower room. Toiletries are provided and it is very comfortable accommodation. Wifi - poor Only small complaint is the general use toilet off reception which could have been cleaner Overall a good stay right in the centre of Bologna and good value for your money.
The location was great for walking to the historical sites. But, being in the center and close to the student area, it was a bit noisy. The room was clean but a bit stark. I did not find the bed or bedding comfortable. Many mid range hotels in this area of Italy have beds that are very hard with pillows to match. The front desk people were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed eating on the terrace with views of the towers.
The hotel pretends to be four stars, but in reality it is an old and outdated hotel that provides very little for the almost 400 euros per night that we were required to pay. The bathroom didn't even have a hand shower and the "TV" was a 15 inch computer monitor. The only ray of light is the location
Unless you are in the Towers this hotel has the best view in the city on its multi level roof decks. The roof deck at night was EXTREMELY private, fairly amazed no one was there to enjoy the atmosphere and beauty, so you may just have it all to yourselves. Absolutely central location and friendly staff. The room balcony was fantastic as well.
My husband and I had a room booked in this "4 star" hotel for over $500/night, and while I was already in Italy (Venice), my husband was not yet, and tested positive for Covid 3 days before arrival. We were to stay at the Hotel San Donato. We booked through American Express Travel and asked for their assistance in canceling the reservation as my husband would definitely not be traveling and I would be going home. American Express tried for 3 days to cancel the reservation for us with a refund and they absolutely refused. Amex Travel has a team to go in and get these things done for you and they usually have success. This hotel, in a time where we all need flexibility, and where literally EVERYONE ELSE is offering it, kept our over $2k and wouldn't even offer a voucher/future stay (which we wouldn't do now), a partial refund, NOTHING. They are greedy and disgusting. I do not recommend this business at all. From all of the other reviews, it sounds like the only thing going for them is location. I wouldn't trust them whatsoever. I will be posting in every possible blog about this awful hotel.…
The hotel’s location is about the only good thing about it. The room’s decor is outdated, the bathroom pictures on booking are misleading and we got a very old looking bathroom despite opting up for the superior room. The windows are far from soundproof and the noise from the street bars kept me up till 3 am. This is a four stars hotel , you would at least expect The room to have a simple kettle to make tea/simple coffee. They charged me 7.5€ for a cup of milk!
This hotel is wonderful. The staff was kind and the outdoor spaces were unparalleled. The rooftop seating area offered a priceless view. Prime location and exceptionally clean. Loved everything about this hotel and would definitely stay again.
Great location. Have a parking that is a bit tricky to find, but explanations are provided when you ask at booking. Our room was towards the back so we didn’t have any noise from the lively neighborhood. Rooms are small and clean, albeit dated. Bathroom clean as well, but the shower head was semi functioning only. Breakfast was ok.
Often choose this hotel when in Bologna. Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Nice roof terrace with a lovely view and also a nice outside area by the breakfast room. It’s old, so naturally you’ll have to expect some noise from the other rooms and outside area, old elevator etc, but usually good value for money.
This hotel is in the old city center so it is easy to walk to all the sights. It was also nice to have parking available. The staff is very friendly and helpful and speaks English. Our third floor room had a nice view of Bologna from the balcony and was clean and well maintained with plenty of outlets for charging devices. The WiFi was relatively fast and stable. There is an outdoor bar in front of the hotel that was well attended by the students so it was a bit noisy (talking noisy) until quite late even though it was a Sunday night but it wasn’t very disturbing. We did not get the breakfast at the hotel deciding, instead, to go out into the city for breakfast. We had a difficult time finding something to eat that was more than a pastry so if you like a hearty breakfast I might recommend the hotel‘s offering. Would definitely stay there again.…
