Unfortunately when we arrived in Bologna the rain was horrendous, we got absolutely soaked and so did some of our clothes inside our luggage! Apparently after April, for several months, the local government do not allow hotels to heat their rooms so it was very difficult to dry our clothes and shoes. This somewhat spoilt the beginning of our 3 night break, however we didn’t let it stop us from exploring this beautiful Italian city. The villa is in a nice residential location just outside of the city and it was easy to get the bus into the city. Our room was very small as was our shower room, we had access to a huge roof terrace it was just a shame we didn’t have the weather for it! We found it a very interesting university city, with so many places to visit and wonderful restaurants to eat in. Luckily it was dry enough on our last day to venture a little further afield to The Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca, a basilica church at the top of a very steep hill with incredible views. …
This quiet lodge in the hills but closed to town. Clear and cLean rooms inside a garden and countyard. Good breakfast and kindness of the staff. Parking inside the garden Note the reception close at 08.00 p.m.
Good value for money. Will assign 4 out of 5 point taking into account the B&B status of this hotel - It's a good B&B. We stayed in the only room in the "tower" - room 13 - great wiews from all angles - in return we had to "give up" on the WiFi which was irratic (at best) on the top floor, but had no problem using the WiFi on any other floor/room. Bus 11 - just opposite the B&B takes you to Piazza Cafour in just 10 min.
I was in Bologna for a conference. I was visiting Italy for the first time and Il Villino proved to be a great place to stay. Booking it was quite simple and when I reached there I was received by very helpful staffs of the place. Besides the clean and lovely room & the quiet surrroundingd, the breakfast was the best feature of the place. I highly recommended Il Villino to travellers who are planning to go around the city of Bologna and looking for a reasonable priced and homely place to stay.
We booked this 'hotel' as a stopover en route to Abruzzo. Unfortunately we encountered terrible delays at the Mont Blanc tunnel and realised mid afternoon that we would possibly not make the 7pm check in deadline. I called and was told not to worry they would wait for us and I said I would call again around 7pm. When I did so and said we were still an hour away I was told we would be charged 20euro for late check in and was given instructions on how to get in when we did arrive. I was then called back within half an hour to be told we would in fact be charged 40 euro as we had two rooms. We were so tired and stressed by this point I simply expressed my dismay and pointed out that I had looked back at my booking and there was no mention at all of a late check in charge. When we did arrive the instructions we had been given did not work, but luckily I took a chance and rang a different bell and a woman came to let us in. She was accompanied by a very sweet man with quite severe learning difficulties whose simple enthusiasm and warmth cheered us up. The woman herself had nothing to tell us, she simply gave us some keys and walked us to our rooms through what looked like a deserted conference centre. We could find no information about nearby eateries and being quite far from town we had to get back into the car which was the last thing we wanted to do. The rooms were ok but much more expensive than others we preferred en route. Breakfast again was ok but nothing special. Check out was laborious as the computer was not working, but at least our late check in charge was reduced to 20 euro by the sweet young woman who dealt with us. All in al I would not recommend this place especially as a solo traveller I think one could get quite spooked.…
From the very first contact we were reassured that we had made the right choice. The attention to detail and friendliness were just what we travellers needed. This is not a hotel with a 24 hour reception and I suppose if that is what you need then it is not for you. I would class it as a high end guest house. The building and grounds are maintained to a high standard and it would reward a visitor to explore the charming gardens and surrounding areas. The location is on the edge of a residential area but there are cafes and shops within walking distance. The trip into Bologna can be done on foot if you wish to get fit - about 25 minutes walk to the centre. There is a regular bus service from right outside the hotel with a standard fare of €1.50 which allows you travel anywhere for an hour and a half. (Not absolutely sure about this so check...) Bologna itself is a fabulous and interesting city. The porticos shelter pedestrians from the vagaries of the weather. It's definitely a pedestrian's city. Back to the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful despite us only having a few words of Italian. The room was spotless. Bedding and bed were very comfortable and fresh. The bathroom was compact but perfect and with a powerful shower. Breakfast was a delight. A buffet - continental style with lots of choice - fresh fruit, croissants, ham and cheese, biscuits, cereals. Fresh coffee was made for us - Italian style. This is worth mentioning to British travellers. Italians do not have Starbucks or mugs of instant coffee and therefore they have little knowledge of the odd types of coffee we Brits drink. When I tried to explain an Americano to our host she came back with coffee, jugs of hot water and hot milk which did the job. I was flattered but stuck to cappuchinos after that. After all, I did not come to Italy for a typically English experience. Later in our holiday we developed a taste for espresso and a glass of water. I should probably have explored "correttos" as I'm a fan of carajillo. We paid a reasonable price for our room, it was very good value. There is no room service but there are vending machines with snacks and drinks if you can work out how to operate them. We needed a holiday and the staff and management here helped to make it memorable.…
Il Villino is a very good hotel , near the city center ( 4-5 stop with the no 16 bus ) . The room and the badroom was big and confortable, and very stylish . The garden was a oasis, peace and green and flower... Gentile personale, mille grazie , tutto bene !!
Good base to explore Bologna. Rooms were comfortable with good beds. Breakfast had good variety and staff did their best to accommodate us and make us feel at home. Easy bus service from straight outside the hotel so no hassles trying to park in the city centre.
We stayed in Il Villino two nights, during our city break trip to Bologna. I really enjoyed our stay and was pleased that we chose Il Villino over other hotels in Bologna. Il Villino was easy to find and although we arrived quite late they were waiting for us. Very kind and efficient staff is the biggest advantage of the Il Villino. All our needs were accomodated, with smile. Another plus is that this B&B offers free and safe parking which is uniqe for Bologna, especially for the hotels so close to the center. There are also free bikes so we could use them during our stay. But we very much enjoyed walk to the city, through lovely streets with picturesque villas, or through the park. It is around 15 minutes to reach the first street of the inner city. As for the hotel itself - we were told the house is an old convent, and it offers single, double and triple rooms. The building is really beautiful, it has a large common space and a beautiful breakfast room. It also has a big garden, which we didn't use because it was raining. All is very nicely decorated, with handmade ceramics and other objects produced in the workshop for persons with disabilities that is located behind the main hotel's house. The rooms were small, but comfortable and clean. Ours had a big tarrace (I think three times bigger than our room) overlooking the garden and the street. The only inconvenience was that as we both do not smoke, we could feel the cigarette smoke coming every morning through the bathroom's ventilation.…
This was a beautiful stay in every way - quality of room and its amenities; delicious breakfast' and best of all the warmth of welcome from the staff. The garden is lovely to walk amongst its fruit trees and small planting of vines. And Bologna for its food is unbeatable - a short bus ride (Number 16 every 13 minutes from just outside the hotel takes you into the centre of Bologna - or better still walk through garden Margherita
