I have checked in on 25 January 2023. As I used to live in Bologna until 2012, I knew about good reputation of I Portici. But that was 11 years ago and things have changed. So, first I’ve got a room without windows. Then I asked for another room - I was moved to the one without a shower at the street level. There were no slippers or a bathrobe. As I was running for a business dinner I asked for a decent, 4 * room having at least a normal working shower. I explained that all my luggage is packed and that it can be moved to another room. On my return very unfriendly receptionist Giovanni explained that they have no other rooms and that they would have moved me if I didn’t go to the dinner and have stayed in the hotel. So I feel as a student in a shabby hotel thinking how to have a shower and catch some hour of sleep before another intensive day tomorrow. Avoid this hotel by all means…
When checking in on a Saturday night we were given a room on the fourth floor, as requested. We'd hoped to avoid the noise of the city, since we like sleeping with an open window. The window insulation was excellent, luckily, because even on the 4th floor, the street noise was unbearable. But the bigger problem was the heat. When we got to the room, the thermostat read 26° C and the heat was still on. We tried punching every button but the system simply wouldn't respond. We called the desk, which sent up a technician just before we went out to dinner. Problem solved, or so we thought. When we got back from dinner, the room was still suffocatingly hot and the heat was still blasting. Another technician came up, failed to solve the problem, and then called downstairs to have our heat turned off altogether. At that point we opened all the windows to try to cool the room down, but for some reason even that didn't help. We couldn't sleep with the windows open, but if we closed them, we roasted. When checking out the next morning, after a sleepless night, we got a lame 'sorry'. And that was that. …
In more than 25 years of business trips as a business woman I have never seen such an inhumane and misogynist approach. Our reserved hotel room was no longer available when we arrived, and apparently not a single other room in the whole hotel. an alternative hotel was organized at the train station. we could come back tomorrow. lottery? arbitrariness? it seems like this: shortly after us ( my husband and me) a man with his very young girlfriend came and talked next to me with another hotel employer and e voila: he got a room immediately. i felt 100% discriminated as a woman and a human. i complayend and e voila a superior room for us was organised. but the lottery wasn‘t over: 5 minutes later they changed their attiute again. unbelievable. bottom line:don‘t go there if you want to be treated with respect! And please- no lies anymore!…
This hotel is an old converted palace, so staying in it is like visiting one of the old palaces of Bologna The rooms are very comfortable and with many details of the old palace rooms, such as their painted ceilings. It is phenomenally located, next to the train station, and a step away from the center of Bologna, in one of its most important porticoed streets. The attention of the hotel staff is exceptional in all the details, always ready to help you with whatever you need. The halls are also very elegant, with a dining room and breakfast area to enjoy the stay
I would very strongly recommend this hotel but only for the location. Also the fact that it has a private parking (25 euros per day) is really helpful if you arrive by car. Excellent breakfast, clean rooms, good bed, good amenities. The issue is that staff of the hotel was not helpful and at times it was rude and with an attitude. We gave our car to be parked at the hotel parking and when we went to pick it up we observed that it was reversed on the wall. Not a big damage but still, it was driven on the wall and left like that. When we complained there was no reaction, not even an apology. Further, the first night of our stay we went to the hotel bar for a coffee and drinks. There was only one man there who told us, with an attitude, that it is too late for service (it was before 22:00) and that we should go somewhere else. The same happened at the coffee shop one afternoon, we enter the place and this girl comes out of the bar, almost shouting at us that the place is closed and we should not have entered and "you should go away". It is a pity, because with the right staff this hotel could be really great.…
Really great hotel stayed for two night during agricultural fair , everything was excellent since check in till check out , room comfortable with all what you need TV tea ☕️ coffee , the shower is perfect , Breakfast is good with fresh juice cheese 🧀 eggs sweeties ….. the location is near Train Station 🚉 Bologna Central , you can walk around too much shops restaurant……., good choice
We stayed 2 nights, superior room @ 385 euros per night, poor value to say the least, uncomfortable beds & pillow, no sleep at all, small room overlooking main busy road, we did have a balcony so that was a plus. But we were right next door to the restaurant entrance, so noisy later on when people leaving. We didn't eat there, the decor is terrible with the tables looking like those in a cafe. Breakfast too was very poor, little choice, not 4* standard at all, had much better elsewhere. The hotel website shows fantastic photos of the hotel, this is not accurate. I agree with the review 'lobby is a waiting room', very clinical. The main beautiful photos are of the side of the building so if you don't eat in the restaurant you wont necessarily enjoy that part of the building. Would definately stay elsewhere next time. …
The Michelin star restaurant attached to this hotel is superb. The staff are reasonably friendly and helpful. The rooms are extremely noisy, small, cold and expensive and overall unpleasant to stay in. There is another, but mediocre, restaurant that bemused us with it’s supposed offering of Bologna food. The tiramisu was seriously a bowl of creamy stuff with chocolate powder on top. It also, if you were on the second floor, produced a constant flow of noisy customers. Having been put close to the lift obviously exacerbated this. To be honest we would advise to stay elsewhere, the closeness to the city centre can be overcome by taxi. BUT book the star restaurant, not the other one. It’s not a comfortable hotel. The seating area is more like a waiting room for rooms to be made ready. There is no where to relax.…
We had a nice 3 day stay at this hotel. I left a jacket in my room and called a couple of days later to see if I could get it sent to me as I was going to be in Italy for 3 more weeks. I was told to send an email with dates of stays and room number. I had to send 2 emails to get a response. I was joining a tour and my Italian guide phoned the hotel to get the information and request that the jacket be sent to another hotel we would be staying in. Long story short, my tour guide called 3 times and I emailed 3 times. No response, and no jacket. Very disappointed! I would not stay there again.
We drove from Frankfurt to bologna and this is our first time in this city.the guy at the front desk was look like a butcher but no problem.
