Travellers' Choice
Savoia Excelsior Palace is a hotel of timeless charm that immediately evokes all the Mitteleuropean's splendor. It is not a coincidence that, when it opened in 1911, it was acclaimed as “the most important and luxurious hotel in the Austro-Hungarian Empire”. The hotel remains an emblem of the majesty, sophistication and peerless style that distinguished the first grand hotels at the end of the 19th century. A towering presence on the historic seafront just off the city center, with an impressive white façade gazing over the endless view of the Gulf of Trieste, Savoia Excelsior Palace makes an unforgettable first impression. But inside is where the magic really begins. The 144 rooms and suites have been recently restyled with a blend of classic elegance and contemporary details. Many offer breathtaking views of the beautiful panorama of the Gulf of Trieste, extending almost as far as the historic Miramare Castle. The Savoy Restaurant by Eataly offers a gourmet experience with creative cuisine and traditional local delicacies, accompanied not only by the finest wine labels but also by superlative seafront views. Nine bright, elegant meeting rooms accommodating up to 320 guests are available to host both private gatherings and business events; our Event Manager is at your service. From the Concierge to the 24-hour room service, from the Wi-Fi to the tranquil library, all the hotel’s amenities are selected and personalized to offer you an exceptional stay in unparalleled comfort.

This is a great hotel. It is beautiful, comfortable and centrally located. We enjoyed our comfortable beds and cozy bathrobes. They only offer valet parking, so we found free street parking about 10 minutes from the property. We had drinks in the lobby bar, and we thought the prices were fair.

This is a grand, old-style building situated right on the harbour in Trieste. The interior is very luxurious and perfectly clean. Probably more of an upmarket business traveller/conference feel to it rather than touristy or romantic (we were staying here on honeymoon). Our room was lovely; a huge, comfortable bed with a balcony overlooking the sea. We didn't eat in the restaurant apart from breakfast on our first day, but the bar was great - excellent service and great choice. Probably expensive for Trieste but as expected for anyone coming from Ireland! The only downside was some unpleasantness on our last morning when we tried ordering some gluten free breakfast items to the room. It turned out that the menus in the rooms were incorrect, but the staff were not at all apologetic and indeed quite rude in their dealings with us about it. They did take the charge off our bill, which was appreciated, but it still leaves us with an unfortunate memory from an otherwise pleasant stay.

Arrival at the hotel was easy, it is located sea-side, on the main avenue. You can park your car for unloading outside. After check-in they bring your car to a central parking lot; for getting it back they ask for announcing departure one hour before- that works well. The hotel is a huge structure, renovated. Our room 267 was pleasant. Spacious, good lights everywhere. Lots of storage room. Bed and mattress good. Quiet, window leading to a small street. Bathroom is spacious again and well lit- there is a bathtub with built-in shower. Safe is easy to handle, everything is very practical. Clean. Good housekeeping, but no turn-down service. For seating during the day, there was a very small bench at the wall, stylish, but not good for seating, more for decoration. Well, Trieste has many excellent Cafes- so not too important. What was really excellent: the restaurant recommendations. Signora Sabrina at reception mentioned 3 restaurants not far away: all were outstanding, thank you, Sabrina.

I had a very nice stay at this hotel the staff was very friendly but they were a little too crazy with the masks especially the fact that I’m already vaccinated. There’s nothing worse than paying for a trip and having to be forced to do something! I had a nice room with a Seaview the only problem is the carpets needed a good cleaning very dated. The breakfast was very nice a good selection I like that the staff served you so nobody was touching the Buffet. I also enjoyed the room service great selection of pastas and fish options. Unfortunately the gym was closed which was frustrating. There’s not much to do in Trieste so 2 days is enough. But one thing I will say is they have great shopping!

The hotel offers rooms with a splendid view on the sea. However, cruiseships dock in front of the hotel - higher than the hotel. The view is just the steel of the stern. Of course the hotel does not tell upon booking. Do not spend the additional money. For the rest the hotel is ok but not more. The room we got was very spacious but had a door to the neighboring suite which could be used to make it a even bigger suite. Unfortunately, this is a simple door which lets pass all sound and talking from the other room. Privacy is a bit hampered. Friendly, helpful personnel which organized a very nice guide in the package we booked. On check-in we were asked about the “green pass” but it was not checked.
