The view from our hotel was gorgeous. We never wanted to leave our room's balcony. The elevator thing to the upper level building was a lot of fun and had even more beautiful views. We really enjoyed it and would definitely return!

We stayed on the top of this interesting hotel and had a fabulous view from our deck. we loved the area and the climb up to the hotel and back down to the town was a quick one and worth every step. The breakfasts were quite good with lots of options to suit all tastes. The funicular was a unique... More

We spent just one night here. Service is very friendly, breakfast is good, room is pleasantly spacious simply but appropriately furnished, everything a bit dated. However there is one important reason to come back: the views from the room and from the panoramic terrace are incredibly fantastic!

Varenna is a great place, and Eremo Gaudio is good choice for a place to stay. The rooms are quite basic, but clean and functional. Staff for the most part were great. The elevators there are an actual thing of note, versus just being a part of the background. They weren't a problem per se for our group, but it... More

Phenomenal view. Such a relaxing place. Beautiful bathroom. 2nd building has a funicular (you don't have to be staying in it to ride). Breakfast does not open until 8:30. Walk uphill to get there, so may not be a great pick for disabled guests.

Spectacular views of Lake Como highlight this pleasant hotel. The restaurant is closed for the season, but the included breakfast was quite good. Meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, pastries, granola, cereals, and yogurt. The staff is wonderfu--friendly and helpful. They made us feel appreciated. It's a 10 minute walk from town, uphill but not too taxing.

We recently returned from a 6 week trip to Italy where we stayed at 12 different lodgings. Eremo Gaudio was in the top two. This was a very relaxing place to stay for our final 3 nights in Italy. The staff was exceptional; very friendly, helpful, and attentive. We were made to feel very welcome and at home. We were... More

This was our second time staying at this hotel. For the area, it is good value for money. There is parking on site (which has been extended since our previous trip, a definite plus), and it is up a steep, narrow road. It's only a 5 minute walk down the hill to the town centre, and a 15 minute walk... More

We had one night here recently. Arrived at night by train and were shocked to find no taxis at the station. Set off walking and got to the main square where thankfully a local bar keeper got us a taxi. Just as well because although the hotel wasn't far away it is up a very steep, twisty, narrow road with... More

We stayed here for 4 nights and didn't want to leave! Located just a short walk away from the lovely town of Varenna. It is a steep walk uphill - but well worth it for the view of Lake Como and stunning sunrises and sunsets. The breakfasts were substantial consisting of a variety of croissants and pastries, meats and cheeses,... More
