Luxe and tradition; since 1863 the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees is the place to stay while visiting the Maggiore Lake area. The builing, the public areas and the rooms feature all modern conforts while still keeping the same belle epoque atmosphere. The park is decorated with statues, fountains and rare plants and the view from the rooms and the restaurant is spectacular. The Medical SPA of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees is one of the first in Italy and can offer aesthetic treatments combined with a personalized diet.

Everything you would expect at a 5 star hotel! Attentive service without being in your way, professional staff with longevity that manage operations well. Spotless well appointed facilities that make you feel like you’re in a special place. The hotel itself is on par with the famous palaces you might visit while staying here…not to mention it’s own place in history. We would whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Stresa! … the included breakfast was unparalleled and we enjoyed the free access to the spa amenities as well!

A fabulous hotel. We had a room with a large balcony that overlooked the lake - it was lovely! It is a short week to the shops and cafes of Stresa - which were a surprisingly good find. Also there is the ferry terminal - where one can take the ferry to the three islands The Spa has an indoor pool which was terrific. It also has a great outdoor pool - weather permitting Breakfast is an all- encompassing buffet. We didn’t have lunch there. Dinner was either a la carte or table de hote. We weren’t as impressed with the dinner as we were with breakfast. But there are plenty of other options in town. The staff were first - class - and an overall fabulous experience

Absolutely beautiful hotel with fantastic views over Lake Maggiore and the Alps. A ten minute lake side stroll to Stresa centre. Staff very helpful. Public areas beautiful. Breakfast superb hot or cold served on the lakeside patio or in the ornate dining room. Room very good but a struggle getting in and out of the over bath shower due to the fixed shower head and narrow bath which resulted in a bit of a flood on the bathroom floor when used. Nevertheless an extremely enjoyable experience.

We booked the Grand Hotel not knowing whether it would be a good choice or not. We were not disappointed. The pluses: great front desk/concierge staff; outdoor pool excellent and beautiful; indoor pool/spa one of a kind and fabulous; room was beautiful with balcony and wonderful lake view. The Hemingway bar area, with piano music, was great. The hotel is quite ornate, by design, and the ability to want/enjoy this ambience/decorative style that is a throw back is important to fully appreciate the hotel. The style fit Stresa and the location, but if you are looking for modern, this is not it (the pool/spa excepted). The only other issue is that the dining room, both for breakfast and dinner, is quite large, and definitely gives a big hotel feel. If you are looking for a boutique small hotel feel, this is not it. So, if a grand hotel with a great view and that is a bit of a throwback is your goal, look no further. Look to the shoulder seasons for more reasonable pricing.

Spent four nights at this beautiful historic property in September as part of our 30th anniversary celebration. The hotel and surrounding property is beautiful and ornate. Location is perfect and within a short walk of the main town, piers to catch the ferries and easy access to the public promenade. The room was nicely decorated in classic ornate style. Daily breakfasts were plentiful with a good variety of options to choose from. While we had no issues with the service and staff that we engaged with - compared to other hotels of this caliber - we did observe that the staff was not as proactive in their direct interaction with the customers. Having said this, it was the largest of the hotels that we stayed in during our trip - so that may have factored into the differences observed. All in all - we highly recommend this property if staying in Stresa.

A super hotel in a perfect location. Stresa is a great town and the hotel is not far from the ferry pick-up points. A very grand and luxurious place indeed! Our room with balcony overlooking the gardens to the rear was lovely. Customer service was excellent. The spa was a great bonus, too. My only criticism is the breakfast, which although has a good selection of food does not cater well for those with dietary requirements. Nothing is labelled. As a vegan I was glad I took my own porridge oats, as otherwise there was just fruit salad. The hotel did get bread, soya yogurt, soya milk and plant based spread for me, however I know supermarkets do many more vegan options. I do feel that Italian hotels need to start doing a wider range of options. We really loved the hotel grounds and the housekeeping service was second to none. If you want guaranteed warm weather then maybe visit earlier than September as we had a few days of rain. This didn’t spoil our holiday, however.

The hotel was amazing and the view spectacular. Food was excellent. Perfect location to shops and restaurants. I had a massage at the beautiful spa and went swimming in the indoor pool. Loved both. Highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel, there from 1863. The location, decor, modern pool and spa, everything is beautiful. Excellent breakfast in a white salon or in the terrace overlooking the lake. Walking distance from downtown Stresa and many restaurants. Walking distance from the piers where you take the boats to go to the islands which are a must visiting. We couldn't be happier with this hotel.

Overwhelmed by the hotel. Wonderful decor, so much marble, great position,Impeccable service in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner. (we were a week on half board) Took us all the week to realise how much art etc there was to see, including the extraordinary fountain Would give it 10 stars for all the above. However;: No English language channels on TV Shower over the bath with a high side. Potentially very dangerous Evening meal OK with a couple of fantastic desserts but main courses lacking in imagination and rather similar ( 3or 4 slices of meat on a bed of veg night after night) Great service though especially Fabio who was fab Rip off prices for drinks. Bottle of still water 7 euros Cheapest wine 32 euros But most of all, my wife had food poisoning, from evening meal to such an extent that she soiled herself. We had shared all food except her starter the previous evening which had to be the culprit. Told maitre’d the next day but. he was totally disinterested In summary I would encourage people to stay but don’t be taken in by the decor

Beautiful rooms, lavish breakfast, dedicated staff.... and prime location on Lake Maggiore! I want to particularly thank Katia, the Front Desk assistant manager, for her genuine kindness and for making sure we had a wonderful stay. I also want to thank Said, the Concierge, who gave us some great tips about the area and helped us book some restaurants. Last but not least, Michele, a dedicated staff member who was our personal waiter every night we had dinner at the hotel. We will sure come back!
