This is actually a c. 1900 villino in Stresa which has had a ‘modern’ part added at the front in the 1950s or 1960s to make it into a hotel. Plenty of parking. It is halfway up the hill just over the railway line. You can go to the Hotel Regina on the waterfront and go up the road beside it (Via Duchessa di Genova). It is cheaper than most Stresa hotels, but for a reason. There is no airconditioning so you need to keep windows open at night, and there can be some street noise. The wifi is poor and does not reach the end rooms, so you have to sit in the staircase or breakfast room to use it. Rooms are quite small and old-fashioned. The breakfasts are OK, with good muesli with dried fruit but no fresh fruit, as well as the usual meats, jams and cheeses. It is run in the traditional Italian hotel way. It has a restaurant that we did not try. The Grano Duro restaurant nearby is very good.…
The hotel is not far from the centre of the town (10 min. walk). The room was small and the bathroom even smaller. Everything was very clean but rather old. This is a pretty cheap hotel. However, parking is free in front of the hotel which is a great thing in Stresa. Toiletries are provided but there is only enough for half of your body. No A/C in the room. Wi-Fi worked well. Beds were really comfortable. Hosts were nice. Breakfast was good but there was no bread other than white bread for toast. All in all a good place to stay if you don't want to spend a fortune.
Had dinner at this restaurant during a 2 day visit to Stresa. This was my 7th visit to Italy I can honestly say that this dinner was the best meal I have ever had in Northern Italy in all of my visits. Veal in white wine sauce was tender & absolutely delicious, vegetables (carrots, artichokes & potatoes) were all nicely cooked & tasty, creme caramel was a silky texture with ample sauce. The lady who waited on us (I think she was the owner) was attentive without being intrusive, spoke very good english & had a lovely manner. Although we weren't guests at the hotel, we felt very welcome & relaxed in the restaurant. I have no hesitation at all in recommending Mon Toc for an excellent meal in a welcoming atmosphere.
Mon Toc was a lovely surprise ! Stayed with a tour group , room was very comfortable with balcony ,free wifi , although bathroom was a bit challenging . Quite small but hey at least there was one. On site restaurant was adequate with plentiful breakfast , & dinner .close to town centre & train station .
This little family hotel is also a very very good restaurant, which I really can recommend 👌👌👌👌- (and you don't need to live at the hotel ) Here you get a very good 3 couses italien homemade diner for a small amount 🍝🍜🍛🍷☕ It's a bit away from the city centre - but it's worth going there - and we aet here many many times 👍👍👍
This hotel does the trick if you're looking for a cheap bed in an otherwise touristy place. Low on charm the amenities are rather dated. The shower didn't drain properly and the carpeting was, well, you know what I mean. The owners certainly work hard to run the place and they are polite but not exactly welcoming. I would not go again. The wifi was poor.
Good size room with queen bed, clean and well appointed with wash basin and bidet in room. Own Toilet and shower in adjacent room. Shower is tight and I was unable to get hot water. Luke warm was the best achieved over two days. Ate in the restaraunt and had a set course of three alternatives for entree, main and desert for 16 euro. Meals for all eight of us were quite good given the price paid and were filling. Service was good. On the downside Luke warm showers may not please everyone and paid wifi is available at 3 euro for three hours or 5 euro for twenty four hours. Five minute walk to city centre and station.
My girlfriend and I were on a motorcycle trip, and ended up in Stresa, planning to visit the Isolo Borremeo the next day (there was a ferry strike, so we didn't get to go). After perusing the lake front hotels with their eye-watering prices, we headed up hill, and happened onto the Hotel Mon Toc. We had a comfortable room with a roll-up shade to a small balcony, much appreciated on a hot day. And it's a short walk down the hill to the lakefront, and the 'pedestrian zone" where there are multiple options for a drink and dinner. And the "lady of the house" showed me where I could park the motorcycle in their garage space underneath the hotel. Not much English spoken, but we had no problem communicating. It's only a couple of blocks down the hill from the train station, so it would be a good choice if you arrive by train; and an easy walk to the ferry out to Isolo Borremeo (if it's not on strike!). Finally, the price was reasonable, and included breakfast, an amenity that is (unfortunately) becoming rarer and rarer,…
Hotel Mon Toc is a nice choice for that price. It is a bit "tired" but the price includes breakfast and dinner (both nice and tasty). The owner is friendly and there is someone who speaks rather good English (not always the case in Italy as I've heard). We had a twin room with a terras - the view was lovely. Beds were comfy. There is a table and chair, extra chairs on the terras. There is also a wardrobe - very handy for people who stay longer. Bathroom was ok - the shower is nothing fantastic but does the work. Hotel is close to the centre and lake, we got maps and info about boats (to go to the islands) from the hotel (didn't even have to ask, they offered them themselves). Last but not least - the hotel has a garden and possibility to park your car!
I traveled to Stresa in July 2013 for four nights with a friend of mine. We wanted to stay in a cute little B&B in a slightly quieter part of town and Mon Toc was perfect for us. It was a relatively easy, albeit half uphill, walk from the center of town - about 10 minutes from the Alibus stop. No problem. Our room was very clean and of adequate size, and the WiFi worked very well. The pillows and beds were comfortable. They do not have AC in the rooms but this really was not a problem - we slept with the windows open every night and there was a cool breeze (the temp drops in Stresa at night, very pleasant for walking around). The breakfast was a typical European breakfast: juice, coffee, cereals, pastries, yogurt. We were quite satisfied with it. We also had dinner one night in their restaurant; it was fantastic and very reasonably priced. About half of their staff speaks some English, some do not, but I see this as my problem - not theirs. The entire staff was courteous and professional. They held my bags for a few hours after check out so I could explore the town a bit more. I could not have been more pleased with my stay!…
