I loved the historic building, and the lovely courtyard. The red carpet going up the driveway was actually a great whimsical touch, with added safety (it was a steep hill to climb and I was happy that if anyone fell, it would be onto carpet).
The drawback is that some of the fixtures were a little tired, in particular the wonky AC and the minifridge door that wouldn't close all the way. But the bathrooms were up to date and there were flat screen TVs in both rooms. There was free wifi throughout.
The staff really treated us like family. It was a great place to stay in Asti.
Thanks again! Will definitely come back!
My husband and I travelled with my sister and her family. We travelled around Italy, having never been outside Australia. My husband's family are Italians.
When we were accidentally deposited at the rear entrance by a taxi driver, the wonderful owner/manageress was horrified. We had to come into the hotel by the service entry.
Our hostess was so upset, that she upgraded our accommodation to the two best suites in this delightful hotel.
It was bliss. Our room overlooked the Castello garden at the rear. The room were all so delightful, we felt like royalty, with private decks and balconies and wonderful service.
Each morning we had an intimate and lovely breakfast downstairs with the few other guests.
Asti is such a lovely town. We were also given incredibly helpful advice regarding sights and we took a day trip to a winery and also through Bra, which all of us cherish as one of the best days in our lives as an experience.
If you are ever in Asti, this hotel is well worth the money. I congratulate the owners/managers.
We have already decided that we will make a regular trip here probably once a year for the next few years and this hotel will be our local centre. A wonderful place. Thanks to all there.
The Hotel Castello is well placed at the northern edge of the city centre, and is only 15 mins walk to train station where there is a good service to Turin.
We stayed in one of their Junior Suites (room 5) which is on the front, facing the town, with views towards the hills. It is really large, with separate spacious sitting room, behind folding doors a small kitchenette and fridge. The bedroom has a small ‘stand on to view the world’ balcony and a safe.
Really good evening meals in their Cambiocavallo restaurant, we had change to have both their 5 course and 4 course tasting menus. Both were excellent quality, extremely good value and a wonderful experience. We were 'given' many 'complimentary' items in between the actual courses, which was lovely. I think that it probably equates to a least a UK ‘AA 2 Rosette’ restaurant (possibly even 3 Rosette?)
Pro’s -
Good breakfast, bottled fruit juices and yoghurts were lovely with some unusual flavours
Complimentary half bottle of good quality local wine was a nice touch
Very helpful pleasant staff who spoke reasonable English
Car parking close by and only €5 per day. Hotel staff are happy to provide the necessary parking ticket and charge it to your bill.
It was particularly nice to have the bedroom and sitting room completely separate
Usable fridge, not small mini bar sized
Con’s -
Far too much ‘fragrance’ in the room, corridors and lift.
Shame hotel aircon did not work for first 3 days, (over a weekend), but breakdowns do happen!
Insufficient coat hangers in bedroom wardrobes, also was a little lacking in drawer space.
Small (acceptable) shower enclosure
Shame was not some sort of ‘pull out clothes line’ in bathroom for the drying of small amount of hand washing
On leaving the room in the morning we left the shutters closed, as the front of the Hotel is in sun most of the day, it was a shame that room service left them open, when servicing the room, leaving it to warm up over the day. Especially when the air con was unavailable!
Overall - We will definately stay here again when we are in the region.
Breakfast was tasty with good service. Will be re-visiting if I get the chance.
Ps. There is a wonderful Mitchelin restaurant about 15 min away, Ristorante Vittoria.
Coming down to the restaurant, we got introduced to the Piedmontaise culinary experience, thanks to Rolando their sommelier. He spend the whole evening sharing with us, the specialties of if his region, and recommending the wines, paired with all the wonderful and seasonal produce of the area. A+
"room 2 is amazing, it has a little balcony to sit on in the sun, but it is right above the Friday night party."Read full review
