Our entire extended family took over this hotel for a family wedding in July. The staff were amazingly friendly, trying their best to accommodate our various needs. They were even flexible enough to let us use the kitchen to prepare the baby food and diabetic meals (I doubt that is normal)! We booked a suite and loved the extra space, balcony and kitchenette - with a small child it made everything a lot easier. Asti is a tiny city so although this is not in "city center" it is within walking distance of everything - and that's even with a 2 year old. There is a parking lot across the street (not the greatest view but very convenient). The food was very high quality - fresh and delicious. Only once late at night was there a mix-up with the meal, quickly apologized for.

I loved the historic building, and the lovely courtyard. The red carpet going up the driveway was actually a great whimsical touch, with added safety (it was a steep hill to climb and I was happy that if anyone fell, it would be onto carpet).

The drawback is that some of the fixtures were a little tired, in particular the wonky AC and the minifridge door that wouldn't close all the way. But the bathrooms were up to date and there were flat screen TVs in both rooms. There was free wifi throughout.

The staff really treated us like family. It was a great place to stay in Asti.

The Castello is an excellent and amazing hotel in the heart of Asti. If you plan to spend a couple of days in this small and beautiful town, Castello should be your choice. Reasonably priced with excellent service, helpful&friendly staff. And, a rare thing in Italy, with an excellent restaurant and bar downstairs. I'd say it's a true 4-star hotel with the potential to become a 5-star.
Thanks again! Will definitely come back!

We did not stay at Hotel Castello recently, but I have just come back to Tripadvisor to research another trip to Italy and I am compelled to write about our stay in 2010.
My husband and I travelled with my sister and her family. We travelled around Italy, having never been outside Australia. My husband's family are Italians.
When we were accidentally deposited at the rear entrance by a taxi driver, the wonderful owner/manageress was horrified. We had to come into the hotel by the service entry.
Our hostess was so upset, that she upgraded our accommodation to the two best suites in this delightful hotel.
It was bliss. Our room overlooked the Castello garden at the rear. The room were all so delightful, we felt like royalty, with private decks and balconies and wonderful service.
Each morning we had an intimate and lovely breakfast downstairs with the few other guests.
Asti is such a lovely town. We were also given incredibly helpful advice regarding sights and we took a day trip to a winery and also through Bra, which all of us cherish as one of the best days in our lives as an experience.
If you are ever in Asti, this hotel is well worth the money. I congratulate the owners/managers.

My husband and I embarked on a visit of the southern Piemonte region of Italy and stayed at several charming locations (in smaller hilltop villages) along the way. For something different, we planned a night in Asti. The hotel itself was okay (the room was quite spacious) although we found the furnishings to be a little outdated and not really to our taste at all (a long red carpet runs all the way up the driveway, for example). After checking in, we immediately left again for the evening to explore the nearby GORGEOUS villages of Barbaresco and Neive. We both sincerely wished that we had booked a hotel in either of those places. The neighborhood where the hotel is located doesn't have much going for it at all. Parking was quite expensive. If you must stay in Asti for some reason, this hotel is fine. But if you are considering a night in Asti, you'd do much better to stay in the nearby town of Neive- one of the most beautiful in all of Italy and full of wonderful dining options.

Great hotel, handy location, friendly staff and absolutely beautiful rooms! Large rooms with super facilities! Our room had large bedroom with flatscreen TV, bathroom good size, a kitchen area and living room with balcony. Free sparkling wine on arrival. Parking for our bike in the terrace so safe. Really amazing and would definitely stay again!

Initially, we had planned to only stay in Asti as passing through on our short trip through Italy. We arrived very late and when entering our room we almost worried that we had been given the wrong room because of the size of the room was massive. It is a very well run hotel, that is close to the centre of town, so reviews that state it is off the beaten track I wonder if they are speaking of the right hotel. There is no parking directly at the hotel, but you can obtain a pass from the reception to the car bar right at the end of the driveway. The staff here are wonderful, particularly Martha who was a delight to be greeted by and very responsive to all the questions we had. She was a great host showing us the sites we should visit on a map and allowing us to extend our stay an extra night with ease... it almost seemed too easy to be true. The only thing we worries about was that on the Friday night there was a party planned just below our window. We were worried it would keep our 2 year old daughter awake, but in the finish the hotel ensured that the music while loud enough, was not too loud and our daughter slept with ease.
We have already decided that we will make a regular trip here probably once a year for the next few years and this hotel will be our local centre. A wonderful place. Thanks to all there.

Asti is a lovely historic ‘real’ Italian town. Good base for exploring Barolo and Barberesco Wine regions and well as the Egyptian Museum in Turin. There are a very good choice of restaurants (from simple Pizzerias to Michelin* dining).
The Hotel Castello is well placed at the northern edge of the city centre, and is only 15 mins walk to train station where there is a good service to Turin.
We stayed in one of their Junior Suites (room 5) which is on the front, facing the town, with views towards the hills. It is really large, with separate spacious sitting room, behind folding doors a small kitchenette and fridge. The bedroom has a small ‘stand on to view the world’ balcony and a safe.

Really good evening meals in their Cambiocavallo restaurant, we had change to have both their 5 course and 4 course tasting menus. Both were excellent quality, extremely good value and a wonderful experience. We were 'given' many 'complimentary' items in between the actual courses, which was lovely. I think that it probably equates to a least a UK ‘AA 2 Rosette’ restaurant (possibly even 3 Rosette?)

Pro’s -
Good breakfast, bottled fruit juices and yoghurts were lovely with some unusual flavours
Complimentary half bottle of good quality local wine was a nice touch
Very helpful pleasant staff who spoke reasonable English
Car parking close by and only €5 per day. Hotel staff are happy to provide the necessary parking ticket and charge it to your bill.
It was particularly nice to have the bedroom and sitting room completely separate
Usable fridge, not small mini bar sized

Con’s -
Far too much ‘fragrance’ in the room, corridors and lift.
Shame hotel aircon did not work for first 3 days, (over a weekend), but breakdowns do happen!
Insufficient coat hangers in bedroom wardrobes, also was a little lacking in drawer space.
Small (acceptable) shower enclosure
Shame was not some sort of ‘pull out clothes line’ in bathroom for the drying of small amount of hand washing
On leaving the room in the morning we left the shutters closed, as the front of the Hotel is in sun most of the day, it was a shame that room service left them open, when servicing the room, leaving it to warm up over the day. Especially when the air con was unavailable!

Overall - We will definately stay here again when we are in the region.

Had a one night stay in a business trip not knowing what to expect. Warm welcome by staff and a real surprise when entering the room that was an apartment with a nice livingroom with a balcony, big bedroom and a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was tasty with good service. Will be re-visiting if I get the chance.

Ps. There is a wonderful Mitchelin restaurant about 15 min away, Ristorante Vittoria.

Warm welcome, by an extremely professional staff. Immediately m upgraded to a comfortable and roomy suite.
Coming down to the restaurant, we got introduced to the Piedmontaise culinary experience, thanks to Rolando their sommelier. He spend the whole evening sharing with us, the specialties of if his region, and recommending the wines, paired with all the wonderful and seasonal produce of the area. A+

We stayed three nights in a deluxe double and were very impressed with the friendly, helpful staff, the stylish décor and very comfortable room. Breakfast was a cut above normal Italian fare with a good choice of fruit juices, yoghurts, breads and croissants; coffee was freshly made to order. The approach to the hotel was very steep but it took only 10 minutes to walk into the centre of Asti. We appreciated the fridge, the complimentary water and a half-bottle of the local Barbera complete with two large wine glasses!
