Reception was fine, friendly staff. The reception is at a nearby hotel in town, btw, not at the apartment. Our 3 room apt was on the ground floor, with a garden. It was spacious and clean, with a nice bathroom. We liked the atmosphere of the place: it's an old building with matching 'style' rooms. The beds were good. The kitchen equipment was adequate, could use some new dishes and utensils. The building has a very nice private swimming area at the lake, just across the road. Private parking is available a short distance from the apt (10 minutes walk). The location of the apt is amazing: it's a very enjoyable walk along the lake to the town center (10 minutes). The views are incredible :)
Plenty of room with balconies off 2 bedrooms and a terrace for outdoor dining. Furnishings are basic, no kettle or dish-washing detergent, but bathrooms were well-stocked with towels and toilet paper. However, the view of Lake Orta and the 5-minute walk to town are the real attractions of this place.
The apartment was clean and spacious, if blandly furnished, and was in walking distance to everything. The view from the top apartment, where we stayed, was fantastic. But the positives end here. We arrived at 5pm to check in and the room was at least 95 degrees F, with no air conditioning and no window-opening relieved the heat. They told us that it was unusually hot but it is June, and given global warming perhaps it's time to invest in air conditioning or at least a few powerful fans. Sleeping was miserable, also given the fact that the cover on the bed was only a synthetic duvet. The wifi is not in the room but downstairs in the lobby of the building. The shower was an ancient relic which sprayed me directly when I turned it on and got water all over the floor, and the shower head was all together dysfunctional and unusable. There are two bathrooms so we confined ourselves to using the bathtub with hand sprayer. To top it off, the electricity went out for three hours during the hottest part of the day! This was not their fault, but still made it near-impossible to enjoy our room at all during midday. They are charging 150€ for this! Orta is beautiful, but it does feel a bit run down and even though I saw many tourists, this all indicates to me that there is a lower standard for hotels. I'd say stay at a nicer place like Al Dom, which looks lovely and seems to provide the right standard for the price.…
We arrived her not expecting much to be honest. It looks ok in the photos but no more than that. What a fantastic surprise when we entered the apartment, 3 balconies all looking out onto the lake and a large terrace too. A large living room & kitchen, a large double bedroom, 2 bathrooms - we didn't want to go home. Absolutely fantastic. We'll definitely go here again.
Yes, the view was beautiful from the top floor. The apartment was spacious, we stayed in La Litarda. As mentioned before, it was stark. Not enough light, some bare wired lights, Air conditioners present, but not working. We found the laundry facilities on our own, it was never mentioned. Although the kitchen was stocked with dishes and pans, unlike any other self-catering accomodations we stayed in there was no salt and pepper, paper towels or other starter items present. The worst was that there were no matches. Our stove top lit the old-fashioned way, turn it on and light with a match. We had to walk to town to find matches. If you wish to use the shower you had best be built like a broom stick. Also mentioned before was the walk, Not a big deal for those who are perfectly able-bodied, but still became a real pain in the you know what doing it 5 or 6 times a day. If we return to this area, we will find accomodations closer in. Oh! If you need to use the advertised wifi you will need to sit next to the router on the main floor.…
The views of this extremely lovely place were outstanding from the second floor apartment, La Litarda. However, the apartment itself was very spartan, without a lamp, cushion or picture in the place. The furniture was certainly not beautiful, but quite comfortable. The beds were comfortable, but the bedding was not; with only a winter-weight quilt and not even a top sheet, the warm nights were pretty uncomfortable, and the linen was mis-matched and very shabby. The wifi was not accessible at all from the top floor, where we were. The beach was supplied with loungers and very pleasing, and we were able to park our car on the premises, but this would not be the case if all apartments were full. Really, just a few touches are needed to make this a quite exceptional accommodation. We would consider returning for the location.…
We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with our two small children. There is a double bed in the living room and a double bed in the bedroom. It was perfect for our one night stay. The terrace is huge with fabulous views of the lake. The kitchen facilities are pretty basic but fine for preparing breakfast in the morning. Its a short walk into the town along the lake front. The car park where you can park over night is about a 10 minute walk away but you can park in front of the apartment to load and unload your car. The staff at the hotel where we had to go to check in where lovely and she drove to the apartment with us following in our car.
Casa Sul Lago is a self-catering apartment with excellent location but basic amenities. There is no personnel onsite, so check-in and check-out needs to be done at another hotel which is quite inconvenient, especially when that hotel has no temporary parking for such errands. We had the 3-BR Belvedere which is very spacious with 2 bathrooms. We loved the small balconies and the abundant natural light. Beds are comfortable. We specified singles at booking but the hotel didn't do it until after we checked in. Since there were three double beds when we checked in, they provided us 3 duvets. After two of the doubles were made into 4 singles, they couldn't bring us more duvets; instead they gave us blankets which were much less comfy than duvets. Wifi is only available in the ground floor entrance area. The full kitchen is simply equipped but adequate for a few nights. The 2 bathrooms offered much convenience, although we found the shower stalls quite cramped. We find location, view, and space the best features of this property. Walking 5 min into town center along the beautiful lake every day is a real joy. Since we seemed to be the only residents there during our stay, management kindly allowed us to park onsite which was much appreciated since the designated parking area is quite far from the property.…
The views from our apartment (Cinque Terre) were stunning and the apartment is very spacious. There were 3 balconies and a wide terrace with chairs and a table. However, we were here in October when it was very cool outside and the apartment was not heated, so we were quite cold during our stay. The minuscule television had no signal for any channel. There was a dishwasher but if you wanted to wash dishes by hand there was no tea towel. There was no microwave and no toaster. The oven worked but be aware there is a danger of it falling out completely if you put any pressure on the open door. There's no light in the kitchen area and no power points! There was no wifi in our apartment but we did get online when we sat in the uncomfortable, cold foyer. The apartment would be ok in warmer weather, but not in the cooler months. Having read other reviews it seems we could have paid extra for heating but we weren't informed about this at all...so we shivered!!…
This hotel couldn't be better located-it is along the road of the peninsula, with fantastic views of the lake and surroundings. To get there, you check in at the Hotel Santa Caterina just past the first roundabout and up the hill. Then you drive down to the villa, pull in, and unload your bags. Then, you have to drive the car back up to the main road, and park in the private grassy lot-a little tricky to find, and walk back down to the villa. To use the car to visit another town, you walk back up the road to get it (10-15 mins). And when you check out, you can pull the car back down the road to the villa to load up. All this is to say the parking is a bit of a pain, BUT, location wise, it is worth it. We saw folks who were staying in the center of the village hauling their luggage down the cobblestone streets-you don't want to do that. You can just walk the 5 mins into town to shop for anything you might need-wine (go to the enoteca), bakery, meat and cheese, fruit and veggies. We stayed in the 2 BR/2 BA apt for 2 adult couples. The space was more than ample. The furnishings/kitchen supplies are adequate but not great. There are no basic condiments in the kitchen-no salt and pepper, for example. WiFi is good, but in the lobby-so, you have to walk down the stairs, and sit in one of the lobby's uncomfortable chairs. And you have to pay extra for the heat-10 Euros/day. And a 250 Euro cash security deposit at the Hotel Caterina when you check in. NONETHELESS, you will love the location, views, peacefulness, right next to lake, quick walks into town. On balance, and with decent prices, you won't do better.…
