Set on the shores of the picturesque Lake Orta, Hotel San Rocco is surrounded by the ancient walls of a monastery. It boasts a swimming pool and views of the enchanting San Giulio Island. The San Rocco was a convent for 150 years. The Baroque-style Villa Gippini was later added to the original building. The elegant restaurant features regional and international cuisine and breathtaking lake views. There is a beautiful garden, a golf course, and a beauty centre called the Body Harmony Center. In fine weather you can access the Wellness Roof Garden, set on the 4th floor. A billiards table and a fully equipped conference centre are provided. Rooms are elegantly furnished with a flat-screen TV and minibar. Most have lake views. Rooms in the annexe known as Villa Gippini are also available. The hotel is close to Switzerland and the Prealpine valleys.

Hotel's Favourite
This small boutique hotel left me pleasantly surprised. It was in a perfect location on the lake in a beautiful village. The hotel was clean with nice bathrooms and shower. The staff was very accommodating especially Giacomo the bartender, funny, fluent in English and very helpful in so many ways. This was a great value

The hotel is a renovated monastery in a nice location and with some nice staff. Umfortunayely however, the price charged for a room are equivalent to those of a 5 star hotel but the services and premises reflect all the features of 3.0 star hotel in desperate need for maintenance. Water coming from the ceiling and soaking a carpet in the main hall, Moldy stains on the bathroom ceiling, dirty shower curtains...overall a disappointment .and....make sure to avoid driving s medium size car to Orta...the streets to get to the hotel are so narrow you may regret driving there

Dated and tired hotel with staff to match . Despite the amazing lakefront setting I would never go back . We couldn't even have dinner in the hotel despite us being guests. Even though they had bookings from non residents. No alternative food offered in the hote, not even a bar snackl so we had to get a takeaway pizza. Breakfast was served in a stuffy corridor like restaurant overlooking the lakefront terrace below which you can't use at breakfast Nobody seemed terribly interested in having guests and got the impression they would rather be sitting at home Only the baggage gentleman and the young girl serving breakfast managed a smile. What a pity this setting has gone to waste on such a poorly managed and maintained hotel

Stayed here in July as part of a group tour. Rooms are clean and well kept. They are small by American standards. Staff was generally helpful and friendly. Ate at restaurant a couple times and food is okay. Access to the lake for swimming is limited and might be considered dangerous because of slippery pier and rocks. The exception to a friendly staff was from the bar. On one night they were unable to provide mixed drinks and suggested a spritzer instead! Another morning we were sitting on the deck lake side and were asked to leave because we had not bought anything from the bar and we were the only people there! Overall an okay place but only 3 stars not the 4.5 stars they advertise. And bring your own drinks!

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel at >500€ per night. The resort overall has a really great potential but unfortunately the owners have not taken advantage of this (yet). The rooms are refurbished in a rather modern style but they are rather tasteless. One really positive thing about te rooms is the quality of the airco which is very much needed in July. The rest of the hotel doesn't gave airco at all... The views are really impressive on the lake. The pool area is nice but could be modernised. However they have a shuttle boat service towards a private beach area across the lake. When we were there the pool was closed (???) due to water restrictions in the area, strangely enough the day after the pool was open again. We had one dinner over at their restaurant which was very expensive and really not meeting our expectations for the prices we have to pay overall. The restaurant was inside (while they have a beautiful terrace where they could serve dinner), and no airco available so everyone was suffering the heat tremendously during dinner. It's a missed opportunity for that price as it's potentially such a great place. Too bad.

I reserved two rooms at this hotel and arrived on a very hot day. The air conditioning was not working in either room. One room was changed to a room where the AC worked. The other room didn't have AC for two days. I was going to move to another hotel, but the receptionist told me that the AC would be fixed and that certain rooms didn't have AC. It is unacceptable to go to a hotel that charges one of the highest prices in the area and not to have full service. The management promised me a discount, but when I checked out the discount was not what was promised. I have emailed them to refund me for this inconvenience and they will not even respond. Many of the staff members were friendly and helpful, but I'm quite disappointed that the management would not even answer my email.

Totally unacceptable price/quality. The hotel has the most beautiful position on the lake. The building and the village are also very worth visiting. But that's all positive about it. But... the rooms are from the 80 ties repainted in a morbid grey tone. The bathrooms are not even worth a 2 star: dirty (black moist on bathtub) and with old discolored curtains (because the shower is in the bathtub..),dangerous doorblocks when you step out of the bathtub, all very aged. We reserved through Booking.com for 5 nights 301 € per night (1505€). After checking the bill the hotel asked us 354,6€ (1773)!! They took 45 minutes to try to find a solution. We decided to leave after 4 nights without reduction, not worth paying to stay in such un unfriendly, dirty and unrestful place. Staff unable or not willing to help. To avoid!

We spent the weekend at Hotel San Rocco in the lake view room… What a stunning view on the lake and island! The restaurant offered very good seasonal food and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Shame the weather wasn’t good, we will definitely have to go back next spring/summer for the pool!

Hotel is located in a beautiful position in a historic building, in the town center in front the Isle of San Giulio, with a nice restaurant, swimming pool just in front the lake. Hotel was refurbished 20 years ago, and so for some aspects it looks quite old. I lived in Superior room with a balcon: very nice but with the negative points I just wrote. Service level is good but not exceptional: it depends on the persons, and this is a not a good point: lack of management. Restaurant food is exceptional: my compliments, breakfast not so good......In summary it's a kind of Roller Coaster some things at very top of quality some other in the average, below a 4 stars standard. Cost correct

If you visit Lake Orta the best location for a stay is the Hotel San Rocco. Directly on the lake with a swimming pool and views to the island and the hills beyond it is the perfect spot. The problem is the hotel knows that and takes customers for granted. When we arrived we found the reception staff to be below average for a hotel of this standard. They did not have the suite we booked but gave us a superior room with a good balcony and lake view. I pointed out that this room was less expensive than the one booked but had to argue before getting a 200 Euro reduction. The room was average in size but the best feature was the large balcony overlooking the lake. The balcony was large enough to have had sun loungers and the hotel should consider providing those. We didn't use the restaurant as there were other more attractive options available within walking distance including the excellent Restaurant La Motta. Breakfast was served in a crowded room with a low-ceiling and no open window - not ideal from a Covid security perspective. The buffet was extensive but the hot food was of too low a standard for this grade of hotel and there were not enough staff for busy periods. The hotel should move breakfast service onto their beautiful restaurant terrace overlooking the lake. A very useful feature is the basement car park which is free. Don't be put off by the car parks and no-traffic signs on the way into the village. Keep down the hill and look for the hotel sign. Honk the horn if the gate is shut!
