Unless you are lucky enough to get the tables at the end of the roof top terrace (where the views are indeed spectacular) you risk either a view of a brick wall or being sat next to the extractor fan from the main restaurant downstairs. After studying the menu for a while we decided to order one full menu (3 courses) and one A La Carte main but when it came to the point of ordering we were told that this wasn’t an option. Disappointing and no mention of this made on the menu. Staff were efficient (putting it politely) - no interaction with guests and service was swift and ungraceful. Food presented well but pasta undercooked and seemed also to be an issue on a couple of other tables with food being left on the plates in some cases. Basically better places to eat!

When booking we had looked for convenience, a property close to the waterfront for our overnight stay in the beautiful Orta San Gulia. The property is located a street off the Lake in a little Piazza and close to the waterfront. On arrival from Stresa at about 9.30 am we had expected to leave our luggage at Reception before exploring. We were pleasantly surprised when Frederica on Reception took us to our room which was available. Well things became better when we were also offered breakfast! Sadly, we declined having eaten earlier. That's certainly never happened to us before - anywhere! Frederica also assisted with transport to the Statione for our early departure the following morning. Wonderfully, the staff also went out of there way to ensure that provisions for breakfast were brought to our room before they went off-shift! Thank you, for such a wonderful service ethic which was greatly appreciated! Importantly for us, this property is serviced by a lift which has access from both streets. Our room was adequate and fairly typical of the European rooms in older buildings but the linen was fresh and the bed was comfortable. There was also aircon and heating (for when the weather cools). The bathroom was roomy with a larger than usual shower for Italy complete with rain shower and piping hot water (and other sprays). Sadly our stay in the beautiful and relaxing Orta San Guilio was short but the property and it's staff, special mention to Frederica, went to every length possible to ensure that our visit was memorable! Thank you!!

We had no agenda and "popped in" to see if there were any rooms available. I'm so sad that I don't remember the name of the lovely woman who was there both nights that we stayed, but she couldn't have been more accommodating. Our room was really nice and the breakfast was fine. It's a beautiful location, but parking is the only downfall because you need to keep your car in a designated parking area and lug suitcases. Other than that, we were extremely happy here!!

We decided to treat us with a special dinner in this Michelin-starred restaurant that our Italian friends recommended. The carbonara di pesce was superb and the suprema di piccione was incredibly tasty. A special mention goes to the young waiter who advised us on the dishes and paid attention to all our needs. Extremely recommend!

This small B&B in the center of St Giulio is the perfect place to stay! Our room was an elegance: spacy, clean and with a small balcony. This balcony was a treasure; taking a timeout before dinner, share a bottle of wine, read a book... If you want a spectacular meal, you book a table on the roof-terrace for good food and spectacular view of the lake and the island of St Giulio. We also had dinner in the restaurant below which has a Michelin recommendation - suitable for celebrations or foodwrecks like ourselves :) Couldn't have asked for a better meal - it certainly fullfilled our expectations! The only thing we could want improved is the breakfast. Not very rich, and thought they serve until 10.30 it may be empty for both cheese and ham - even bread one day. A nice place like this should offer a full breakfast, that would make it full score! But we will stay here again, if we ever should visit Orta St. Giulio in the future. To be recommended, both the lake and the Locanda!

Stayed here and had dinner in the restaurant prior to flying back to Australia from MXP the next day. The hotel has the sort of access and room size that most hotels in old Italian villages have, ie..... small rooms, awkward access, some distance from the village car park (a few hundred metres). Having said all that, the dinner was magnificent, the service excellent and the wine list extensive. The dining room is small and has no outlook, so a pre dinner drink by the lake is recommended. The suggested menu at 75 euros was probably the best that I have eaten anywhere at any price. The village is quite lovely with great access to the lake if you are keen on a swim or walk. Having stayed in a more high profile Italian lake town previously I very much rate this as a place to stay and eat.

Not a great place to stay - stay somewhere else and eat in the restaurant which was just fantastic (please note the upstairs terrace with wonderful lake views is a bistro only - you can't have a pre-dinner drink or any other drink without food for that matter and it is not the Michelin restaurant either, which is located in a somewhat small 1st floor restaurant). As a family we had a two doubles and two suites. The doubles were small and without air conditioning, while the suites were obviously larger, although really more of a standard double in a larger place. The suite on the top floor was the pick as the jacuzzi (unused) was outside and there was a largish terrace with lovely lake views. Unfortunately the design of the balcony wall meant the views were only available while standing. Shame that. The second suite had no view, so go for the top floor. Staff seemed somewhat harassed and disinterested apart from one person on reception - well done to her. The real downside here is the access from parking to the hotel which is simply painful as there is no parking within two hundred metres. Of course no help with bags from the hotel. I wouldn't stay here again - stay somewhere else and eat at their Michelin restaurant. Oh, and visit somewhere else for pre-dinner drinks as you can be lakeside.

The location is close to the center piazza and a nice walk to the Sacre Monte. We stayed in the smallest room and found it adequate and clean. We wanted to be outside and seeing the sights, so room size didn't matter. There was a nice extra sitting porch shared by all guests where we spent a little down time. We were there over a busy Easter weekend, and the room was quiet. Breakfast was wonderful, with fresh pastry options, yogurt, and other standard continental options. We had a fabulous dinner in the restaurant. Everything about this hotel and restaurant was above average.

We were recommended to visit Locanda di Orta during our stay in Orta San Giulio. As usual when we visit upcoming restaurants, we play up to the chef by ordering the Chef's meny. At this restaurant the menu was named freedom menu (surprise menu). Unfortunately, no positive surprises on this boring menu. I think those ordering from the a la carte were more lucky. After two hours, only 4 small tastings were served.

Unfortunately we were only able to stay here one night (enough though to enjoy their 1 star restaurant!). The hotel reception staff were helpful and interested. Our room was perfect and the hotel is centrally located in the village.
