Great location, worst food and client experience in Italia. We stayed at the hotel during two nights. The location on lake Orta is perfect but sleeping is the only thing you should do here. - the breakfast is included on the room price but is of poor quality (no fresh bread, only in plastics, mostly packed foods) - the second day, as I was drinking the apricot juice served during the breakfast I had a DEAD FLY in my mouth. Not on the top of the juice like it just drowned.... on the middle of the juice like if several bottles had stayed opened and were mixed.... no explaination nor excuses from the staff, just this miraculous answer : « we are in the nature, it is normal to have flies ». Dead flies in the middle of a juice, really ? - there is a possibility to have dinner on the terrasse, and the view is great but the food is horrible and expensive. We asked to the waiter which pasta was fresh and apparently none. We tried the ragù (11€ + 2€ on coperto for unfresh pasta and frozen sauce...) and the omelette (9€ + 2€ on coperto). Both dishes were wayyyy to salty that it was difficult to eat. I did not know it was possible to eat bad italian food, now I know it’s possible :)…
I am only just getting a chance to review and post photos of my 2019 trips. Went there for an overnight stay and for convenience, stayed for lunch as well with a couple of friends. Whilst I would recommend the hotel again (tidy, clean, everything we needed), I wouldn’t come back for the food. The photo is a plate of what should have been Salmon pasta. I can make it better than this at home. I was so disappointed! We were in Italy, should be the home of pasta, and for sure that’s all I got. Barely any salmon, which makes the price I paid for this horrendously high. Also my friend had ordered some sort of Surf and Turf platter, with meats and fishes pieces, as the menu clearly stated “scallops”. It happened to be a very bad translation for “escalope”, as they served thin medallions of white meat. Anyway. Won’t stop there again for food. But to stay overnight, no doubt ! Look at the view !…
Highly recommended for children, food and accommodation. Dog friendly and plenty of parking. · The room was lovely, superb food, caring staff. Ideal place to stay to explore the area and visit Orta San Giulio
We came upon this small hotel entirely by luck looking for a one night stop driving from UK to Tuscany. Within half an hour of booking in we had decided to make it two nights, not much could have been any better. Room was spacious, spotlessly clean, well equipped and even came with that beneficial item - a fridge (well minibar if you wanted to use it but we just put our picnic meats and cheeses in). Bathroom again was spacious good towels, mini shampoos etc as one would expect from a larger hotel and simple things like box of tissues which just make life easier. Breakfast was the most complete continental spread I have ever come across, with fresh juicer to do some of the pile of oranges if you didn't want one of the juices already jugged up, cheeses and meats, range of cakes and pastries, range of breads, jams, cereals, yogurts etc. Eggs available on request cooked freshly. We also ate in the restaurant both evenings, we chose the fixed price menu which seemed to give most the dishes on the a la carte pages, 20 euro for three courses. Everything we tried was tasty and well cooked. Parking is available and there is plenty of it for the twelve rooms they have. Was there a negative? - yes if you want to spend a lot of time on the balcony (all rooms in main building have balconies overlooking the lake), the hotel is near the road and traffic was pretty constant, generally non commercial, throughout busy hours. Additionally one forgets that in Italy they allow smoking on hotel balconies, so although the room was non-smoking one did have neighbours who smoked. However, traffic noise was not intrusive inside the room at all. Oh - and hotel has large games room and TV lounge so children can be kept occupied and at the same time parentally supervised. Owners cannot be more friendly. All in all highly recommended if you like a small hotel with unexpected facilities.…
Very friendly hotel, clean rooms, very good restaurant and extremely friendly staff/owners. Rooms all seem to have balcony and lake view and are spacious enough to stay a good number of days. Breakfast and dinner outside is very nice, there is a road in front of the hotel but especially in the evening and early morning traffic is not too much. Recommendable and very affordable place to stay!
The location is easy to find, parking in a basement car park with a lift to reception and rooms - a bonus! Our room (208) overlooked the lake (a splendid view) and, although near to the road, we were not affected by the noise of traffic. We received an excellent welcome from Ely and registered quickly and without any fuss. Our room was, perhaps, a little dated but it was spotlessly clean, the bathroom likewise..The bed was very comfortable. The food at dinner and breakfast was perfectly acceptable (big portions) and the service attentive and friendly. All in all, we'd be happy to return!
Beautiful location. However it is necessary to have transport because there is no way of getting around apart from by foot. However the manager Elee drove us into town when necessary. She did charge us a minimal charge for which we were more than happy to pay. The staff were all lovely especially Elee who could not do enough for us. This holiday was excellent in every way. Thankyou everyone.
Stayed here two nights. Very convenient if you have a car. Free under cover parking. Lift to all floors. Good free breakfast. Rooms are spacious. Wifi works well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Provided transport to Malpensa at short notice. Excellent value for money.
We know this Hotel from five years back. We visited for two evening meals and a lunch. Otello (who remembered us!!) looked after us with the help of Roberto, and the meals were fine, especially the steak, which seemed to me to be big enough to cover the lake outside. Good wine, good company. We found that car clubs use the place to congregate for meets, with their cars. They know what they are doing. Great location for Orta San Luglio, Mottarone, and other lakes such as Maggiore. Go there...tell 'em I sent you!!
In our 3 weeks in Italy, Hotel Fontainbleu was one of our most enjoyable and memorable experiences. The location of the hotel was very picturesque but it was the expert care taken by the proprietors and staff that made this hotel so special. They gave us a very warm welcome, helped us plan daily excursions - offering help with taxi-service, giving directions to beautiful hikes in the area, and driving us up to Mount Motterone where we took a cable car down to Stresa. Seeing Lago Maggiore and 7 others, the views were incredible. Both Ely and Othello are excellent. If Ely could drive us anywhere, she did. Even as she drove she multi-tasked, showing us points of interest along the way. Otello was amazing - going above and beyond with info and maps - he was an excellent tour guide. We had a fantastic time and hope to return. Davide the chef offers a full menu of so many delicious options so we made sure to return home for dinner - we dined at Fontainbleu 3 out of our 4 nights. During our stay, we noticed that this was a second or third visit of several of the guests – they too had had memorable stays which obviously had a lasting impression. The rooms had excellent views of the lake, the rooms were larger than expected super-clean, and there many special touches. There is lots to do in the area: hiking to an ancient castle/tower, exploring Sacro Monte (a World Unesco Site not to be missed), the beautiful town of Orta San Giulio, and the beautiful Isola San Giulio. In all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay.…
