If you like being really close to water and you love hearing sounds of water, birds and boats all the time - don't look any further, this is a place for you. We were offered to stay in this converted boathouse for a weekend at the reception of Hotel Piccolo Olina, because the hotel was full. And we absolutely loved it! It's a 2 room house, with a roof terrace and a small, private garden build above the water. You even see the lake from your bed! The style of the interior is unfortunatelly mix of design and IKEA, but the location and setting is simply unbeatable. Use of a rowing boat is included, so we actually rowed ourselves to the little island which is in lake Orta, it takes 20 minutes in an easy tempo.
The house is only 5 minute walk to Orta's main square, along the lake, very pleasant.

We were in the top floor of the annex, 1 minute round the corner from the main hotel/restaurant. It was very nice. It was much much more like an appartment to rent than a hotel room. We had two bedrooms (no extra charge) and a tiny kitchen (never used it). Its a nice apartment with a good feel and some nice touches (bathroom, eves, decor etc). Good value for a couple and right in the centre of Orta. Nice and quiet to sleep, spacious and very clean. The only down side I could see was the 4 flights of stairs with your bags. Orta is an utterly fantastic place to visit for a couple of days so you can't go wrong if this is all that is left and it meets your budget - we loved it. The breakfast, in an arty cafe round the corner was nice and relaxed if a little bit self service (you won't starve and there is plenty of choice).

If you do stay here make sure you've enough Euro's left over to go to their Olina Restaurant - its the best!!! Superb.

+perfect location; calm area (except you can hear the neighbors snoring...) ; room access out of the check-in hours; communication and information via WhatsApp; bed room and bathroom clean, free toiletries; nice breakfast
- no internet access in the room; very little interaction with the hotel staff on the spot

The Hotel is located in various structures in Orta San Giulio, is a two stars hotel, but the breakfast included in the price is really a five star superior one!!! Piccolo Hotel Olina has clean, well furnished, bright rooms and give you the chance to stay in a magic place without spending a fortune. The restaurant of the hotel is a good level restaurant included in the slow food circle.

We had three nights here attending a wedding in town. Reception is next to the Olina restaurant and the rooms are in another building. All worked well. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and that was good. If we weren’t being entertained elsewhere we’d probably have eaten there again.
The rooms are clean but basic with few frills – only two plastic coat hangers for all the wedding gear! - but everything worked. Good shower, comfortable bed. Small room and bathroom. Nowhere to put anything. No chairs. Don't expect large towels and loads of toiletries. No coffee/tea in room. There is no lift. But what you get is fine.
The breakfast is in a café in the main square and that was plentiful and nicely done. Enjoyable to sit watching the place come to life.
Beware that you have to park in the multi-storey at the top of the hill and carry your cases down steep hill or multiple steps to the hotel and back up again at the end of the stay. Definitely for the young and fit. And if you don’t know about the Italian ZTL traffic regulations then find out before trying to drive into town!

Staying in the center of Orta San Giulio is a challenge: this is a "mirrors-in" town to drive into and then only to drop your luggage. It's worth it, but only if you're going to stay a few days.

Piccolo Hotel Olina is a assemblage of rooms in the town core, not a standing hotel. Check in where they tell you and then they will show you where your room is. Ours was OK, but on the ground level on the main access 'street' up to the parking lot, which meant it was fairly noisy. There was also no view or outside space of our own to hang out, although sitting on a bench in Piazza Motta and watching the constant flow of tourists, resident kids and brides/grooms was a pretty good alternative.

But the breakfast! Oy! Breakfast was served by a collaborating hotel right on the Piazza; tables inside and out. In three trips, totaling nearly 3 months of travel in Italy in the past five years, and NEVER have I seen a spread like this. A serve-yourself buffet of cakes, pastries, meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, dairy products, juices, fruit, and of course coffee and teas. And not just one meat, but six platters of everything from basic prosciutto to smoked cinghiale. At least 8 cheeses -- really good stuff. A dozen different pastries. It was like they systematically determined the entire range of what Italians, Germans, French, UK and American travelers want to eat and then GOT ALL OF IT. Times two.

Eat all you want. Waddle out.

We booked three rooms, two double and one quad to attend a family wedding. Our double was tucked away down a side street, beside a school so noisy at 8.15am!
My sisters quad room was an appartment overlooking the square beautiful views & excellent lcoation. My son had the boathouse with his partner, superb, wonderful for the couple. lovely staff very friendly and efficient! Excellent breakfast but we didn't always make it in time as 10am finish was too early for us!

As English speakers traveling in Italy, we felt so lucky to meet the desk staff at Hotel Olina. Fluent in English, the staff helped us to obtain rooms for 5 nights and locate the local attractions we wanted. We had two different rooms during our last-minute stay: both looked out over Piazza Motto, so we were able to throw open the long windows and watch the world below in the piazza and out to the island of San Guilo. As people who work through the internet while we travel, we were so pleased to have internet access in an eating room of one of their properties. Moreover, the complimentary breakfast was nearly decadent: cheeses, meats, quiches, tarts, fresh fruit, grilled vegetables, and as much espresso/ latte as one could want! All in all, we were delighted from beginning to end with Hotel Olina and recommend it highly.

This is a no-frills, 2-star property with basic but clean accommodation in the centre of Orta San Giulio offering a great base for exploring this wonderful little town. Don't go with too high expectations and you will thoroughly enjoy your stay, just as we did.

We stayed in July and didn't miss the air conditioning as the stone walls were sufficient in keeping our spacious room clean, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was well stocked.
Special mention must also go to the hotels excellent (quirky) restaurant and the great breakfast served at their sister hotel in the main square.

Rooms are basic but have everything needed. The bed was extremely comfortable and room was clean.

Great location however we couldn't find where the breakfast was so missed it but we should have got up earlier!

A great hotel if watching the pennies, would recommend to anyone.
