My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Leon D'Oro for four nights, from Wed., Sept. 14 until departure on Sunday, Sept. 18. This is a family run hotel with family members always on location and very helpful. This was our first trip to Orta San Giulio and we enjoyed it very much, much less touristy than Lake Como. The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the middle of the town with beautiful views of the lake. We ate two dinners at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent and at reasonable prices. The only issues with the hotel was the air conditioning which by American standards was not as strong as we would have liked and the parking. The hotel does not have their own parking lot and the town has strict rules on the days and hours you can access the town center square but both of these issues were overcome and would not to us be a reason not to return to the hotel. If you have not visited Orta San Giulio you need to do so and stay at this hotel. …
Hotel needs up dating. The room we had was a king size which was two separate beds with a lovely balcony Over looking the lake and the convent Island. The food was good but expensive. The restaurant and wine bar next door is where we ate mostly. Great food The hotel. There was the daughter who was very helpful. The grandmother Who seemed to be there all the time organising everything. I ask her for some milk at the bar which she said was closed. I said I need it to make a cup of tea as we had a complimentary tray in the room. She reluctantly got a small Jug, I asked for a bigger one. She was put out and not very friendly. She should retire If she can't be bothered to do a simple job. The bar Man maybe the son-law was the same My friend had breakfast on a tray in her room. So I asked for two cappuccinos to have In the room (of which they charged extra) The coffee with breakfast was stewed and not nice at all Very bitter.so I asked for two cappuccinos he said he was busy and only going to give me one cup so I said I would wait and put two Saucer On the tray. He again was put out. What is it with their attitude. We paid enough to stay there. I would not stay there again. There unhelpfulness put me off. …
Great location in the main piazza and accessible to restaurants, shops, gelateria, ferries. Long-standing family owned hotel and restaurant with the matriarch very present during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Evident that the family cares about what they do, very professional but so friendly and helpful. Restaurant is fantastic - we ate there twice and excellent choice, quality and value. Family members work in the hotel and restaurant and understand hospitality. Rooms and bathrooms excellent - clean and in great condition. Definitely will return as they make you feel so welcome. Excellent value for money for accommodation, cocktails, wine and food. Located right on the edge overlooking the lake with magical views at night. Beautiful terrace area for dinner and breakfast. Breakfast service was fantastic with the male manager hovering and being so hospitable. Great example of Italian hospitality.…
We attended a wedding in late August and stayed here for 5 nights, along with most of the other guests. For a three star it surpassed our expectations. Room 201 had an amazing view across the lake as well as a shared terrace. The location was great - right near the main square. Breakfast was a good choice. One member of staff who stood out as exceptional was Barbara (receptionist). Nothing was too much trouble. This hotel/location gives you a genuine flavour of real Italy.
We traveled here and stayed two nights. A delightful and helpful staff. The hotel is a quaint clean spot that offers lovely rooms with updated bathrooms. The main desk is fully staffed and everyone speaks English, German, French and Italian. The breakfasts are generous with a full selection of breakfast foods. The restaurant has delicious local specialties and a nice selection of wines. I have no reservation recommending this gem by the lake.
I can not praise the Hotel Leon d'Oro d'Orta enough. My Daughter got married at Lake Orta late August and the wedding party and the majority of the guests stayed here. The service we received was amazing with special reference to Barbra who saved the wedding day when it started to rain - she acted so kindly and provided solutions to the problem and the day went without a hitch - thank you. The rooms were beautiful with traditional Italian fresco and decor and the whole Hotel was spotlessly clean - the housekeeping staff worked very hard and were obliging to every request. It is worth staying here just for the Lake view from the breakfast terrace, it starts the day beautifully as does the continental style breakfast. I would also recommend a meal in the restaurant and pre-booking is advised, the view of the Lake and mountains is stunning and the food was freshly cooked and exceptional. Thank you for making my Daughter's special day so magical…
We had pasta, wine, coffee and grappa. The food was mediocre - uninspired. The service was uninterested. The location is very nice with view of Isola San Giulio. Compared to the evening we had the day before at Ai due Santi it was a little cheaper, but a great disappointment.
we luckily had a table right by the lake. An absolute treat and view. The food was absolutely delicious! Homemade, sauce and seasoning were amazing! Def recommend the truffle pasta! The service was very good too!
The hotel claims to be pet friendly but then they do not accept dogs bigger that 18kg. This is not even mentioned on the website. I booked a room and then they wanted to charge for the cancellation and they were very rude on the phone. This would have never happened in England where I have lived for many years. DO BOOK IF YOU HAVE DOGS WITHOUT CALLING FIRST.
If you plan a visit to the Isle of Orta, stop here for a relaxed, good quality lunch and enjoy the view. The placed is managed by family memebers and it seems one of the always more rare italian family restaurants....good food at the right quality and price with a spectacular lake view just at the center of Orta
