This hotel exceeded our expectations in all respects - staff very helpful and friendly, breakfast thats worth the money alone and an impeccable room quality. When we arrived in Venice it was pretty late, the hotel upgraded us to their Junior Suite free of charge. The room was huge, high ceilings and all the extras you would expect in a...

Nice hotel. Great locations. Staff did everything possible to make the stay perfect. A few signs of aging etc apparent in bathrooms (the room fittings, not me...) but overall an excellent stay.

I stayed with my family (including two teenagers) at the Ruzzini Palace in June. It was definitely beyond what we would normally pay for a hotel, however the photos and their website looked so appealing we figured we would splurge for a three-night stay. After all, it’s Venice, right? My husband and I are both architects and we wanted to...

We stayed for 4 nights in one of the Junior Suites at the back of the hotel overlooking the canal. The room was great, well furnished, large, cool and quiet. The staff were always friendly. Breakfast biffet included was excellent with a wide selection including scrambled eggs and bacon. The location is great within easy walking distance of St Marks,...

Staff has not been very friendly. Especially the evening and night shift front desk staff have been borderline rude and sub-optimal. Same applies to breakfast staff. After reading the positive reviews this was rather disappointing. The hotel offers a "free" tour to Murano Island to visit a glass factory. The prices at the factory are much higher than in Venice...

We had one of the rooms on the top floor which was rather quirky as the window overlooking the square is about 1 metre off the floor and in the room a small set of steps and a landing were constructed to enable occupants to look out over the square. We liked the unique shape and features of the room...

Beautiful hotel. Huge rooms (we had two rooms - a junior suite and were upgrade for free from s standard room). One room had a wonderful view of the canal and the other a great view of the plaza. Hotel is a refurbished palace – you can still see the original beams in our rooms. Really amazing place to stay....

The hotel is a renovated palace and the rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are great. Breakfast is good, but be sure to ask for proper coffee as the standard jug is instant – the only disappointment. Service is good, and the whole ambience of the place is grand. Recommended!

We stayed here for two nights in June. We had two rooms on the first floor. One room overlooked the canal and the other room overlooked the square. The room overlooking the canal was a little smaller but had a sitting room. Both rooms were clean and comfortable. We did experience some noise at night from the square our first...

Got a little lost initially trying to locate the hotel winding thru the little streets of Venice, but once we did it was a gem. On a very small canal, but walkable to everything. The room was nice, clean, bathroom modern. Elevator extremely small(2 people max) but new. Breakfast was in a lovely room with with plenty to offer and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
