This hotel is in a great spot location wise, walking distance to Piazzale Roma and The Grand Canal. The hotel has a traditional décor, the rooms were comfortable, some minor faults which if fixed would make the hotel perfect. Breakfast was simple a selection of pastries and a coffee machine but enough to get you started on your day of...

The hotel is clean and has good services. Front desk is very friendly and kind. The local was prefect if you have to take a cruise from Venice. We did stay two days before and two days after the trip of the cruise. The hotel is in a very quiet and relax neighbor, and close to taxi stand.

Stayed here with my wife for a long weekend. Easy to find, and a great location in Santa Croce. Situated on a fairly quiet street with some superb little restaurants and bars a few steps away, although there was no noise from any of them in the evening. Staff were excellent and spoke great English. Hotel is nice and clean...

My wife & I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Al Sole. We arrived on Monday 24th having booked a superior room with a canal view. Room 303 was at the front of the building above the flag poles. We arrived in the evening, the room was hot inside so I switched on the air conditioning...

Just got back from a 3 night stay here in Venice. You cannot get better value for location, literally 1 minute to piazzle Roma for bus station/ train/ vaporetto. Reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful, porter was a little odd! Room was basic and small with no wardrobe space, but clean, comfortable and very quiet. We would have liked...

My wife stayed here in the summer so I booked it again for our visit together but whereas she had a lovely, big, room on the 2nd floor, this time we had a small, poky, room on the first floor. It was reasonably comfortable but there was nowhere to put your suitcase such that you weren't in danger of tripping...

The hotel is nothing special but the staff is great and the location is key. Its great if you come to town for a cruise or don't want to rely on water transportation. Its close to everything giving you plenty of options.

We spent two nights at this fine hotel. From the time we checked in to the time we left all the staff were wonderful. The rooms were clean and we had no problems. The breakfast was included in our room rate. The food was fresh and plentiful. The only thing I would improve on would be to make the lighting...

A most enjoyable 3 night break at this very good hotel in a very convenient location close to the bus terminus and railway station which is much easier than struggling through the narrow streets and crossing bridges with luggage. Rooms are very clean and the bed comfy with cotton sheets. The staff are friendly and welcoming. An ideal base from...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
