A great hotel stay 4 nights . Staff friendly and helpful, room comfortable and spacious. Breakfast sets you up for the day. Eating out recommendations good. Water taxi to Murano appreciated. Quiet location within easy reach of the sights. Walking distance to the bus station. Would come back for another visit.

This was a chance find and we were delighted with it. Clean room, reasonable breakfast, and very well located right next to a canal and within a few minutes walk of keyspots. Organise your own gondola trip rather than via the hotel

We stayed three nights in Venice and the original hotel I had booked brought us to stay here for the first night because the people in our room needed to stay an extra night. I was not thrilled with the arrangement but when we arrived at Hotel Al Sole they upgraded us to a Junior suite. It was a big...

The hotel is literally a 5-10 minute walk from the taxi/bus station although it is worth getting more detailed directions than the one provided by the hotel as it is easily missed. The hotel was lovely- large rooms, king size bed, perfect continental breakfast and overlooking a small canal and pretty bridge. The staff were extremely helpful - they booked...

Location, character, superb staff - that's just 3 of a long list! A 6 minute, easy walk from the Piazzale Roma on arrival from the Airport and a warm welcome. Guests could not receive better advice and assistance for a multitude of wants - travel (e.g. free water taxi to Murano, best stops for the Canal Grande (Piazzale Roma or...

We stayed at the Hotel Al Sole for one night only, but wished it had been longer. The bus No 5 goes from Marco Polo airport to Piazzola Roma and then the hotel is just about three minutes walk away and easy to find. It sits directly facing a canal and is close to some lovely restaurants and an easy...

Beautiful location about 10 minutes from the train station and only 5 minutes to a water bus station. Hotel staff was fabulous and very helpful with maps. Room was large and clean with view of canal. Bathroom was good, tub a little small. Breakfast was delicious and an excellent variety. Has a cozy courtyard you can enjoy a cup of...

The hotel has a wonderful frontage on the water with a pretty bridge, I like the proximity to the station as well. Staff was fantastic. Clean. I have had bad experiences at expensive hotels in Venice. I would use sis one again, but I would ask for a room overlooking the canal.

What a great hotel. Staff is so nice and helpful. It is easy to find and is a quieter area. The hotel recommends restaurants that are actually good. The hotel is beautiful, old and grand. The free breakfast is delicious. Perfect hotel for Venice.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
