LOCATION 2 minute walk to the train station which was why i choose the place. Its down a side alley. Lots of restaurants near by. Its about a 30-40min walk to St Marks Square, but its fine as you just follow the main route along all the shops. Its very convenient for what we needed ROOM The room was nice....

Good:close to the train station.basic but relatively clean. Bad:strong smell of smoke that suffocates you if you aren't a smoker.small and worn out room-everything in Venice is.Long hair on the floor from previous guests.noise from the street.steep staircase on entryway-out of bounds if you have big baggage and can't carry them up. Overall I won't return to Venice all together...

We have stayed at this tiny hotel 3 times, whenever we visit the city for a few days before a cruise. There are 5 beautiful bedrooms all with Venician styling of silk lined walls. Very atmospheric 2 of the overlooking the Grand Canal. When we stayed this time we had booked one of these. When you look out on to...

We traveled Italy by train and the location was great. Very close to the train station and close to a main vaporetto stop. This hotel is definitely NOT for people with mobility issues. The main door opens to a steep stair case that leads to the "lobby/breakfast room" and there was more stairs to our room. Not an issue for...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
