One of the few hostels on the mainland of Venice and therefore very few complaints to be had!! More expensive than most hostels for what you get but definitely worth it to be on the main island, only a 20 minute walk from the station if that and everything is reachable on foot, wifi was down when I visited and...

The hostel is really clean and just a slight turn off the main streets that link the bus station and train station to the central parts of Venice. Beds were comfortable and toilets / common areas were kept clean daily. Staff were also very friendly making my short trip in Venice with friends very enjoyable. Just some thoughts from my...

I totally recommend Ostello S. Fosca. It's location is very central in the Cannaregio district, however not too central to be too noisy. The staff consists mostly of university students, who are working at the hostel and living in the student-dorms next to the hostel. They are all very friendly and helpful. The building-complex itself is beautiful, has a beautiful...

The hostel is as easy to get to as anywhere is in Venice! Staff were very polite and there was wifi. Plugs took a while to work out but we got there eventually. showers were great - fab pressure. Beds were comfy. Quite expensive for a hostel but that's just venice for you!

One of the cheapest places we could find to stay in Venice. The room was a two bed private room - basic but fairly clean, with towels provided. The view from the window was really nice overlooking the canal. The bathroom was shared and not very clean - the shower was quite dirty and the drainage didn't work - when...

No air conditioning, but t was very peaceful and away from the bustle and noise of the city streets. It was breezy enough to be comfortable even in the heat. The canals were right outside the hostel. Beautiful gardens, seemed like a repurposed church. The staff were friendly and it worked for us. We only stayed for one night.

The place is very well located in the very centre of Venice, not far from Rialto bridge a Coop supermarket is very close by, and you can get drinkable water in Venice, from small fountains there is one in particular close to the hostel about 2 bridges after the Coop supermarket, so don't bother buying litres and litres of water,...

Really nice location actually in Venice rather than other hostels outside! Close to the station and easy to walk to all the main points. Hostel itself was clean, nice kitchen and lovely courtyard to sit in and eat and drink (with a supermarket nearby). Really friendly staff at reception, locker didn't lock properly but felt safe to leave stuff there...

I took a double room with my friend for like 70€ a night. There were I think 4 rooms in our corridor and just one bathroom for women and another for men, that's not good. But the room was pretty big, huge wardrobes, sink and a good fan. Staff very friendly and nice. I liked the location. It's not very...

We expected Venice to be really expensive so we were delighted to find the Ostello S Fosca. It is basically close to everything and is a gold mine for real travelers. Of course if you don't like to share and travel cheap, don't come here, but I've enjoyed my stay a lot there. My friend and I were in a...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
