We've just returned from a long weekend in Venice and we stayed in one of the apartments away from the main hotel. The actual hotel was confusing to find as we were given different addresses and post codes but luckily the hotel manager Enrico found us just around the corner. He took us to the hotel where he checked us...

Very clean and modern place. Room had a very comfortable bed. The room is somewhat small, but this is typical for Venice. The room has all amnesties you could want, including a coffee maker (and they bring you capsules everyday), plenty of choice of We were welcomed with free cookies and mineral water. The location is very good, 15 minutes...

We loved our stay at Al Portico and would recommend it 100%. The location was great - only 15 minutes walk from all the main sights and the bus station, 10 mins walk from the main train station, 3 mins from a water bus stop and it has a Spar shop and lovely coffee shop 2 minutes walk away. Despite...

I was part of a group of 4 couples that traveled to Italy in March 2016. We stayed at Al Portico during the first leg of our trip to Italy. The location would have been difficult to find if it were not for GPS on our phone, but once we knew where it was, finding it again was no problem....

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a close 15-20 minute walk from the train station, and about 5 minutes to an Alilaguna stop to get to the airport. Also very close to a Vaporetto stop. The room was fairly spacious and very clean. We would definitely stay again.

This was a nice very little guest house in the Cannaregio neighborhood. We were emailed self check-in instructions with how to find the hotel. For the most part the instructions were accurate, however I will add some useful information to help you locate this hotel. The house number is the most important thing to know. As you enter this neighborhood...

The directions to the hotel are easy to follow...2-3 minutes walk from the Vaporetto. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The little terraces are wonderful to sit out on at the end of the day. Lots of restaurants in close proximity (within 10 minutes walk. Easy walking access to the Rialto Bridge. It was a little hard to find but a treasure when we got there. I loved the view from the roof and it was a very comfy bed. Best price for the time we were there. We ended up with the door key in Milan, the owner was really nice about it. He really needed it and we returned it...

Friendly and helpful staff, room small but clean and pleasant. Great location! Short walk from train station santa lucia, and very near to a vaporetto stop. It 's a bit hard to find at first but as it's not on a main road it' s very quiet at night. A/c and private bathroom were great.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
