We stayed her for 2 nights before our cruise. What a great hotel and location. Steps away from all the sights. Great outdoor dinning with a 5 star view. We will come back to this hotel next time for sure!

This is in a perfect spot to explore the city. Gorgeous views of grande Canal from rear dining. The rooms are small but well appointed. Front desk staff was very helpful. The restaurant is wonderful but pricey. Close to high end designers if you want to pamper your second wife.

This hotel was everything I expected it to be and more! The location, service, room appointments...all of it was first rate. We were especially impressed with the friendliness and knowledge of the front desk staff. Mario was exceptional with his friendliness, knowledge and professionalism. There was the added bonus of a complimentary taxi to Murano! Our lunch, overlooking the Grand...

We have just come back from Easter weekend in Venice and booked a table at this restaurant before we travelled. We spoke to the maitre'd - Patricio on the telephone to make the booking to ensure our children would be welcome ( age 11 and 14). We were assured they would be "children are our next generation of customers! "...

I just returned from a 10 day trip to Italy and couldn't wait to stay at this hotel....it did not disappoint! Our junior suite was incredible, size, bathroom (fabulous!) linens etc. The hotel staff couldn't do enough for my sister and I. We needed a restaurant review and Mario not only gave us the name of one of the best...

My vacation in Venice was spoiled by the rude and unhelpful front desk staff. When I was checking out, I was told to cross the bridge outside of the hotel to go to the pier to catch a ferry to the Marco Polo airport when in fact, the water taxi reserved for me was waiting beside the hotel's terrace. I...

Hotel has an excellent breakfast balcony. Staff are freindly and punctual with requests. Breakfast is good on average. It is a must try hotel close to shopping areas and main attractions and a walking distance from bus stations-ferry.

We have just returned from a magical 4 day trip to Venice, our visit much enhanced by our decision to stay at the conveniently placed, beautiful and elegant Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal. All hotel personnel from reception to restaurant and particularly concierge were superb, so welcoming and helpful. We booked a Grand Canal view room and were glad we...

We went as a family for a 3 night break to celebrate my Fathers 80th birthday. This a lovely hotel, perfectly located in the middle of Venice, a short walk to St Marks square, overlooking the Grand canal. From the moment we arrived until we left, the service and quality of experience was outstanding. The food at breakfast time, and...

We spent five nights in this fabulous old hotel with its Rococo style rooms and fabulous dining deck on the grand Canal. Breakfast was a joy, as it was taken amidst the bustle of the commuters and tourists journeying to and from St Marks square, and the scores of tourists patiently waiting for their turn to board the Gondolas for...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
