Beautiful hotel located witihin walking distance to the train station and ideal if you are staying pre or post a cruise as it a short walk to the people mover. We stayed in a corner luxury room overloking the canal and we had a small balcony. The room was a very good size and the king size bed was very...

This hotel was an excellent choice for a short weekend break for two. very nice staff and all round excellent service. Concierge spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The hotel has a modest Venetian traditional setting with modern facilities. The location of the hotel is situated right next to the train station and taxi drop off (car), which is...

We stayed here 2 nights pre cruise. The hotel is stunning & in an excellent location, the rooms are small but this was expected. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was lovely. Whilst we had transport to the hotel this is close to the bus & train station so very well located. The walk to San Marco square...

Great location. Close to everything. Bus statin, train station, Grand Canal, and right on the water to take a water taxi or romantic Gondola rides. The hotel ambiance is sweet, cozy, and romantic. Walking in the lobby was just a joy itself with its beautiful chandeliers, piano and gorgeous restaurant. The best part was being was being greeted by a...

We stayed here our first night of a 5 night vacation in Italy and it was an excellent beginning. The look and feel of this small hotel is top flight. Every staff person we dealt with from the front desk to the bar, to the restaurant staff were very kind and attentive. They also spoke excellent English. It was my...

We spent 2 nights here last week for our anniversary. We chose it for the location, which was perfect for us as we arrived into Venice on the bus (the bus station was a 2 minute walk from the hotel) and left on the train (train station was about 10 minute walk). Our room was lovely, although a little worn...

Just a few hundred yards from the bus station, but very quiet. No hauling cases on & off boats. Very handy for the train station too. Wonderful service, lovely room, comfy bed and a superb breakfast in a beautiful dining room. It more than lived up to expectations. Even a pianist in the foyer next to the dining room. Only criticism...

Having searched on Trip Advisor for hotels in Venice I eventually chose the Hotel Papadopoli, with one of my considerations being its proximity to the local transport network. The bus terminal is a two minute walk through the small woodland park which adjoins the hotel; the train station is probably at most a ten minutes walk (over the Grand Canal)...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
