We just got back from Venice and stayed for two weeks at the Papadopoli. It was such a wonderful experience. We would take off from our room and explore daily, to return for a gin and tonic in the bar. Breakfast and dinner in the lovely garden restaurant was excellent! The hotel is old and showing her age gently, but...

My husband booked this as a last minute anniversary treat and we stayed 3 nights with breakfast included as an offer. We came in to Piazzale Roma on the No.5 bus from the airport and only had a 5 minute walk across the bridge to the hotel. It may take a little longer if you have a lot of luggage....

Excellent hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Easy access from coach and train station and great selection for breakfast. Venice is not a lively city on an evening, so dont expect hustle and bustle, however that could be because of the time of year we visited in may.

2 Night stay in Venice at the Papadopoli. Found this hotel via its good report in tripadvisor and it lived up to its reviews. Located walking distance from the station and right on a canal, with easy access down to the Rialto or St Marks. The room although small and cramped was clean and tidy and met all our needs....

What a delight to stay at Papadopoli Venice. From the very first e-mail inquiry to the completion of our stay this hotel exceeded our expectations. My husband recently hurt his back and could not lift any bags. Initially, I sent inquiries to 8 hotels in Venice asking for the best room rate and specific information on how to get our...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
