The highlight of this hotel was the canal view! The room itself was less shabby chic and more just shabby. Door to the bathroom had a chunk missing, mould in the shower, stains on the carpets, poor finishing all round and no hot water from the drip of a shower on the last day. Very poor value for money paid.

This a small hotel with limited amenities. We were offered a small breakfast in the morning which was more than satisfactory. I would recommend for a short stay as far as its convenience to the train station or cruise terminals. If you are there any longer it would be better to book further into central Venice or perhaps on one...

When we arrived we found Thomas cook had booked me and my mum as a couple instead of a twin room. The hotel had no twin rooms available and Thomas cook were less than helpful. We had to share a bed the first night but the lovely man on duty then gave us a free upgrade with a massive twin...

We were shown to a small hut in the garden (a barn in which I could barely stand straight) that would've been our room for an expensive €120+ a night but fortunately luckily we were able to upgrade to the room listed in the photos for €50 extra a night. So unless you like camping outdoors, really don't book the...

Hotel is well situated in regard to the Venice train station and the Bus terminal where the airport bus leaves from. The hotel rooms were very clean and well appointed. Our room on the second floor was recently refurbished & the bathroom was modern. I couldn't fault the hotel.

Warning, Warning, Warning! I usually do not say terrible things without reason, but this hotel and its check in staff (one man who refused to help or give advice) actually cancelled our pre-paid reservations for two nights stay and had the gall to say that we had cancelled. And so why would we have shown up then? Since we didn't...

We stayed at Hotel Gardena for two nights in September 2016, the first stop of our Italy trip. The first night we arrived we were so dead tired from traveling that all we wanted was a place to lay down, which we got, but the amenities stopped there. Bed wasn't comfortable, shower didn't work frankly at all but a tiny...

We have stayed at the Gardena a couple of times, it is affordable in an expensive city, it convenient to the train station and the Piazzale Roma, where you can get to the cruise port, the airport, and other places that require wheels. The updated rooms are quite nice, larger than average. The ones that have not been modernized can...

Rooms on 2nd floor are recently remodeled and well done. First and ground floor rooms have not been remodeled so beware as these are not a good choice. Staff was very accommodating and efficient. Breakfast was boring but adequate.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
