I thought the hotel was located in an ideal position to access all the different attractions of Venice being just a few minutes walk from the main square and the main part of the river. The hotel is very well looked after and the attention to detail was very good. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The room...

My wife and I stayed in the Splendid the first week in July. As everyone says, the location is excellent for all major sights and shopping, and an easy walk from them all. The rooms are nicely decorated and a good size, but tight on clothes space. The beds are comfortable and we slept well, it was quiet. The bathroom...

My husband and I stayed at the Splendid Venice Hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of August 2010. If you want a good clean hotel with a nice room in a central location this is the one!............ The room was cleaned to a very high standard, the sheets and towels were changed as required (the bedlinen was of a...

For a 4* hotel this is in an ideal location between Rialto and St Mark's Square, right in the heart of a busy shopping district - but in spite of this it is remarkably quiet. It feels more like a 5* but doesn't have a spa etc; the rooms are spacious, well decorated and clean and the staff are very...

We spent 5 nights in Venice during the middle of July, staying at the Splendid. On arrival, the hotel was very difficult to find, however I feel this would be the case for the majority of the hotels in Venice. Dont even bother trying to use a Map- it just doesnt work! After a while we eventually stumbled across the...

We stayed here for a weekend in June and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was in a terrific location (walking distance to both Rialto bridge and St. Marks) , the rooms were well kept and clean and the staff was friendly enough. The breakfast was decent, and dinner in the hotel restaurant was very nice. Given the price...

Starhotel Venice is a great hotel just a minute away from the Piazza san Marco. We stayed in this hotel for three nights and it was the perfect vantage point from where to experience Venice. It's an oasis in the middle of the hectic streets of Venice. Room 511 has a view to die for and a terrace to go...

The first and most important asset of the hotel is the location. It is midway between Rialto bridge and Piazza San Marco, thus giving the opportunity to hit the main tourist attractions on foot. The room was nice, it had the kind of decor you expect from a hotel in Venice (meaning it's not very modern, or minimal), and although...

Location is wonderful. A bit of a pain to get to, but once we were here it was a great central location. There many shops and restaurants in the area. My teenage daughters enjoyed being able to explore the shops on their own. We often found ourselves in the vincinity of the hotel during our explorations, so it was nice...

The hotel is in a great location 5 mins either way to the Rialto Bridge or St Mark's square. The hotel rooms were clean and air-conditioned, a must if you're going in July ! Its also on the gondola path if you start at the Rialto Bridge. Not the biggest rooms but thats nothing new in Europe. All in all,...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

The Splendid Venice hotel is based in the historic centre of Venice, with the city's must-see sights and hidden treasures all within your reach. Just a short stroll or gondola ride will take you to Venice's most iconic sights: San Marco square and the Rialto Bridge. Like the city itself, our 165 rooms and suites are a mixture of styles, but all capture the essence of a romantic Venice holiday. Blending contemporary comforts with details that reflect classic Venetian character, each room has a light, elegant atmosphere, with many offering wonderful views over canals and the Venice skyline with its magnificent San Marco's bell tower in the horizon. Le Maschere at the Splendid Venice is one of the few restaurants near San Marco Square that is popular with Venetians and tourists alike. This authentic Venetian restaurant serves classic dishes with a modern twist. ... more   less
