We stayed here in early October for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We had read other reviews on TA that recommended a corner room. We requested one and were lucky enough to have a room with three operable balcony/window bays. Each provided a wonderful view of the quiet canal beside the hotel and the Grand Canal. The room was much...

My husband and I spend 3 lovely nights at the the American Dinesen. The hotel is a block or so from the Academia so transport was easy but the street itself was relatively untravelled allowing us to avoid the crush upon exiting so often experienced in other neighborhoods. For anyone whose travel requires an early more flight, the hotel has...

This is the second time I've stayed in this lovely boutique hotel on a beautiful street. Wonderful location in a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and shops nearby and equidistant between two vaporetto lines. Also 5 minutes walk to a stop for the boat to the airport. A haven away from the tourist crush of San Marco. Our room...

We were very fortunate to select the Hotel American Dinesen in Venice, Italy. It was old world style with a wonderful concierge and all staff members bent over backwards to exceed our expectations. Breakfasts were delicious, location was great, and they made our stay in Venice spectacular. On the day we left for Tuscany, we forgot our iPad in the...

We really enjoyed our stay at the American Denison. The staff were very professional and friendly. The room was immaculate. We had a superior room - I believe it was called - with a balcony and a view of the Canal. The hotel is close to everything, but quiet. The breakfast was awesome and they had a happy hour was...

The location is perfect, as it is away from the crowded tourist area but close enough to walk anywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful! We paid a little more to get a room with a canal view and it was definitely worth it. This hotel was clean, beautiful, and I hope to stay there again!

The hotel is situated and a quiet part of Venice and away from the crowded streets of other areas. Yet, it is very close to all the important sites and very close to the Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim. The hotel itself is quite charming, very comfortable with a great breakfast. The staff is very professional and very friendly. The...

We just loved this hotel. We asked for an early check-in as our flight was arriving to Venice in the morning and they had our room ready upon our early arrival. The doorman graciously helped us out of our water taxi and was extremely accommodating. The room was perfect, looking right over the canal. Breakfast was delicious and well laid...

Pros: - The hotel is located in a convenient location, near the Accademia bridge and the water bus stop, yet the area around the hotel was not noisy during my stay. - We enjoyed the canal view so much. Be sure to book one with it if it is within your budget. - The staff was friendly and I particularly...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
