Stayed there for three nights in October 2010. The hotel is easily accessible from both Accademia and Zattere vapoletto stops. If you take private taxis to/from airport, the access is even better. Water taxi gets you right in front of the hotel, and hotel staff...More
The hotel location was ideal for us: one block each way to the Accademia (with its vaporetto stop) and the Goggenheim museums, in a quiet part of town, a 30-minute walk from St. Mark's. It's located on a small canal (rio) and some rooms (not...More
Stayed 5 night here, in the modernized apartments. The room was very clean and new, and the location of the hotel, right near the Academia in Dorsoduro was very central and convenient for getting around Venice.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. Everyone at...More
Hotel American Dinesen was recommended to me by discriminating friends. I was not disappointed. The hotel was in a great location, yet was sufficiently quiet. The room had a lovely smal balcony overlooking a canal. The room was well appointed and recently updated. The staff...More
We saw this hotel here on Trip Advisor and it seems to have great reviews so we went there. It was as good as people said! We stayed in the "modern" room in the Annex (not in the main building) and it was fun and...More

Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob
in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

As others before me have stated there are no cars in Venice. See Tricia H's response for excellent car parking arrangements. The hotel does have a private water taxi dock. The nearest Vaperetto (Venice's version of a public bus) is at the Academia Bridge. Then you will have to walk past the Academia turn left for about a block, cross over a foot bridge, turn right and the hotel is just beyond a cafe. Ciao!
