The hotel is located within walking distance of the train station. The hotel itself is ok but it is a bit dated. The room we were given was very small and the ensuite bathroom was tiny. It was impossible for two people to get into the bathroom at the same time and the shower was the smallest shower I had...

I am not one to usually write reviews but this hotel was great. The staff allowed us a very early check in after coming on the night train, and were so helpful with everything throughout our stay. The hotel has a very homely feel and great to stay if you are coming by train- no bridges to climb with your...

Of all the hotels we stayed in in Italy, the rooms at Hotel Hesperia were the biggest. The hotel had a nice and "old" feel to it without it feeling rundown. When we got to the hotel, we were given the option to upgrade to a room with a view of the canal for a small extra fee, which we...

I found this hotel through TripAdvisor and it lived up to all expectations. The amenities and rooms are simple but tick all the boxes. There is too much to see in Venice to spend it in the hotel room. The rooms were clean and both the ladies working at the reception could not haveebeen more helpful-they were a credit to...

We enjoyed a lovely two nights stay at Hesperia, staff were very nice and couldn't be more helpful. The place was relaxed and friendly and in a nice part of Venice which is away from the hustle and bustle of the main attractions. Our room was great, nice ensuite and spacious double bedroom. A comfortable base for exploring Venice.

This is a very pleasant and adequate hotel in a quieter area of Venice but also very central for touring . The staff are obliging and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable although a bit cramped for 2 people. The en suite bathrooms are also very small. A delicious and varied breakfast is included which carries you easily to...

We booked this hotel through a travel agent and were very happy with the accommodation and the service we received. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant at all times, and the rooms were comfortable. The hotel is conveniently situated for the Ferrovia (railway station) and the bus station, while a vaporetto goes directly from the stop opposite the hotel to...

Stayed at this hotel with a friend at the end of April. Staff are friendly and the hotel is spotlessly clean. We booked the budget room at the back of the hotel which was basic, clean and comfortable. Our room had no view at all but that was not a problem for us. We were offered a canal view room...

Paid the extra (and it was worth it!) to get a canal-side room...fantastic opening the windows in the morning to the sounds of water lapping and boats and gondolas! Very good (for Italy) breakfast and close to the main transit point. Quite expensive, but that is Venice and Italy in general for tourists.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
